Here's a neat history fact involving shooting people: During a speech, a man attempted to assassinate President Theodore Roosevelt by shooting him in the heart. Roosevelt, being a skilled hunter, knew the bullet didn't hit anything vital, since he wasn't coughing up blood. This was because of the steel glasses case in his breastpocket, as well as the script for his speech he folded in half, taking most of the damage. With the bullet still in his chest, he gave the rest of his speech before seeking medical attention. People began to joke about how he only survived because of his habit of long winded speeches, making the script a hundred pages thick when folded.

Great mix of ingenuity, and ridiculousness with a touch of common sense. So much time put into things destined to fail but usually has a great point of why some things just don’t work. Oddly enough I just realized that I watch several channels, all so different from one another except for the fact they are all from Australia! I wonder exactly how many KZreadrs are in Australia in comparison to other places? Anyway thanks for the great content and entertainment! Take care

If you’re wondering how a simple nail or scissor blade can penetrate through the Kevlar, it is because Kevlar is designed to stop bullets (or at least slow down its velocity) by acting as a super stretchy net that catches and decelerates the bullet like a soccer ball flying into the goal net. Running any piercing weapon like a spear will easily penetrate the Kevlar, since it can pass through the microscopic gaps between the Kevlar fibres.

The Kevlar was easy to cut because it isn’t meant to stop blades or other weapons that have low kinetic energy it’s only meant to hold up against fast moving projectiles
No, and yes. It’s a fabric, a textile, which means it is vulnerable to shear, which is exactly what a sharp knife foes. However, it is extremely strong in tension, which is gonna be the resultant stress of a blunt bullet. In the same vein, it would also protect you against a pick strike which would pierce plate armor, since the tip won’t be small enough/sharp enough to pierce between the fabric’s fibers or cut them. But you are ultimately wrong because an ESAPI ballistic vest is meant to stop rifle round, not low kinetic energy impact, but it’s still a centimeter thick hard ceramic plate, so good luck piercing it with anything else than a rifle round.

Just a tip if you ever do this again you should layer the Kevlar with another material, I've seen something as fancy as carbon fiber to something as simple as old potato bags. Really neat video. Curiously, your initial reaction and concern about the material not being Kevlar due to being able to cut it is an actual issue. Kevlar is a remarkable material but due to the nature of how it's woven, is vulnerable to pointed object capable of going through the material and damaging individual fibers rather than the collective strength of the fabric. Non-Newtonian, shear-thickening fluids (same concept as oobleck) are used to withstand these, as they 'thicken' proportionally to the shear force applied. As such, if someone attacks with a knife or scissors, the fluid will thicken in response. You could still get around it by slowly stabbing, reducing shear stress, but if by then the person will have time to react and move away form the blade

I can't think of a safer place to work than a gun shop. There's a reason you're made to bring firearms into the shop in a case. The first thing the person behind the counter does is make sure the firearm is unloaded. My local store has a "jar of shame" of rounds that have come out of "unloaded" firearms. If you attempt to walk in with a gun in your hands you'll be asked to leave. If you draw a firearm from a holster in the store you'll have every ccw in the store pointed your way. As an employee you don't have much to fear. Just enforce the rules with no mercy, treat every customer as if they're about to negligently discharge their firearm. Treat every firearm you handle as if it were loaded. You'll be alright. Congrats on the new job!

You can kind of feel it start to happen after a heavy weight has sat against your chest or you sleep on your belly. Next time you fell that funny feeling like your lungs are being held against filling all the way, try to overcome it. It's really bizarre feeling like the weight is still there pressing your chest. Normally you aren't exposed long enough for such things to be permanent but a ton of shirts could potentially do it.

Layering fiberglass cloth held together with epoxy resin can make some surprisingly effective body armor. In the video I watched, it was able to take multiple hits from every handgun they fired at it. It was just as effective as any armor you can buy. Wasn't much bulkier or heavier either.

He was horrified at how easy it was to puncture the kevlar, but kevlar isn't actually difficult to stab through. It'll stop bullets no problem, but not knives.

adding onto what you said: its because knives will just push the fabric apart; whereas bullets sort of 'ram' directly into the layers

Thanks for looking out for us over here. Fun fact - we're not actually obese, we just wear lots of shirts for protection.

The obesity actually cushions us a little bit more making us slightly bullet proof. It’s just sort of like an evolutionary adaptation
This is exactly what I needed to see before going to work at a place that sells guns 😂 I'm so very thankful for this knowledge mate

I really appreciate the clear gun safety, finger off the trigger, gun always down range, hell handed off to a friend(that presumably knows handle the firearm) before moving down range

Pretty impressed with how not-nervous you are for your first firearm experience. Clearly you have some form of instructor on hand (or youtube) because you’re holding those pistols almost perfectly and the accuracy is pretty good. Come to Texas, bring Daniel Ricciardo.
