So my World History Teacher was discussing the idea of archeology, and about how most of the items we find might be incorrectly labeled. He posed the question: “What if, in the far future, archeologists dug up a lava lamp? What would they think it was? A ceremonial object, probably.”

I grew up in the 90s when the lava lamp had come back into style and I'd always been fascinated by them. I'd owned a number of Chinese clone lamps, but the movement of the lava was always disappointing. I then heard about Mathmos and figured since they created the original, they must be good. Very pleased with my purchase, the lava moves all the way from top to bottom! I also think it's really neat that they still make them in the U.K at the same factory, there's not a lot of things you can still buy today that are still made in their home country.

This is one of those retro things that will never go out of style. I've had lava lamps for years and still absolutely love them. They are especially good on nightstands. Watching them relaxes you and can help you fall asleep. We are going to move to a new house and I will get more. Watching the video it surprised me to discover that the most popular colors are also my very favorite: the purple liquid with yellow gel. Right now I have one next to my desk in my retreat where I spend most of my time. How relaxing this is to watch. Please, never stop making these.

Just lit mine here at home. I’ve been having a lava lamp at home on and off for probably about 20 years. I like them, they’re decorative and peaceful to watch once it’s all warmed up. Hilarity can occur while it’s warming up too lol I’ve had my lava lamp look like the wax was flipping the bird as it started to melt, and a while ago the wax took the shape of a certain reproductive organ 😂

I love the design and I’m hoping to get some more bottle colours so I can change out the colours. I really love the company and the products are good, despite the high price, it’s totally worth it and I would recommend Mathmos for anyone who wants to get a great quality lava lamp

The design is just beautiful. It’s also entertaining to just see. Not to mention that fact that on average it takes less space than that of a desk lamp. The only cons are that the bigger they are, the more power and heat will be needed to just start up the lamp and make it just function similarly to smaller types.

I had a lava lamp that was peak 90s. I got it as a Christmas gift from my parents when we went to Sears around Christmas one year. The lava was blue and the liquid clear. The top and base were aquatic themed (dolphins, fish, whales...all swimming in a ocean). The cool thing was the top and base were 3D...not painted or anything. Super detailed. God I loved that thing. Sadly I lost the top and the bottle along the way...still have the amazing base though...I should get a cheap lava lamp and stick it in the base...it won't have the top but it'll be as close as I can get.
