I completely agree!
I've never seen someone build so much tension during a 5 second sanding segment.... "is he gonna play it? is he!? CMON!?"
Why do I suddenly feel like visiting a Mellow Mushroom for pizza tonight? Love the artistic direction (pivots?) in this project.
‘Stabbed in the place that you live’ gosh David! You definitely give all you have. Hoping your wound heals fast. Nice lamp!
That absolute monstrosity looks like it belong as a set piece in a John Waters movie - and I mean that in the best way possible. Well done. I love it
The shirt reveal is my new favorite "SAND" cut.
This series of turning thrift/everyday items into custom pieces is amazing! I can see the algorithm taking this and it getting big!
Hi Dave, long time listener, first time caller. Actually, I've been watching since the Drunken Woodworker days. Just wanted to say this is my favorite video that you've made. Love the project. Laughed a lot watching and rewatching the accident in the intro. Love that you allow your direction and vision on the project to morph as you progress. All just good stuff. Ok, bye.

That was a fun one. Love the lava pouring out.
It would be amazing to redo this project on the lathe, then cut in in half with the bandsaw, insert the lava lamp, and re-glue.
That guttural scream on the router going into a hole is me on every guitar when I forget I've drilled a hole for jack socket. I know that pain.
Honestly, at first I thought "He's building a lava lamp coffin but then you made it work. NICE!
I applaud your artistry and your opposition to magnets!
Immediately purchased the shirt as soon as you said it was available. I’m telling my wife it is my birthday present.
This was such an odd project, totally not something you see every day and I love it! This takes the cake for my favorite of yours!
I now have a "Ohrwurm". Thanks man! 🎶🎶🎶 Chop up the base, chop up the base 🎶🎶🎶
Love that you´ve got Fear and Loathing rolling while you work :D Order in some golf shoes!
That antique walnut is SO nice!
4:38 so a pro tip from a chick who isn’t a “planner”. Just tape it together. You can still get a sense of how to proceed but without the “oh snap that’s backwards moment” that might happen. I honestly thought that you were gonna use a wood burner to enhance the gap. You just leveled up the college dorm!! I love the piece. It is just cool.
Omg that is absolutely beautiful. I love it. I'm a lava lamp collector and this is amazing
This one took many unexpected turns, and I love it! Completely unnecessary project, but hey, we need more of that in our lives, don't we? So many fun things in this video. And I learned a new safety tip! I'll file "always cut towards yourself" right after "always start the drill before screwing". Really enjoying your tone lately. It's a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing!
The workbench is LAVA!~!
Great video! So many great moments. I haven’t been to Spencers in 100 years. Dude! “I stabbed myself”. Adding the chamfer on the joint is the exact advice my artist son just gave me on a box project where I was struggling with the lid to box joint.

I was really surprised Spencers is still in business. How?
So weird... I love it!
I thought for sure in the intro you were gonna say "Welcome to Break Something"
you should have started with, welcome to break something :)
I just love how the lava light turned out. Hope ur chest is alright and love the new t-shirts.
That turned out AWESOME!
This is rad!!!!
"I'm not one of them." Haha classic. Chop up the bass my friend. Chop it.
That turned out so groovy, far out man! Seriously, that turned out great!
Cool idea, hope the heat doesn’t become an issue. Maybe keep us updated in a future video?
Chop Up the Bass is an instant banger.
Fantastic project. Can’t believe you came at the magheads like that. I for one am a big fan of magnets but it’s your project so you are free to “screw it up” however you please. That being said, this turned out great.
Beautiful Work! I love that you show the whole process when something doesn’t go right and you figure out a way to solve it or change the original idea!
This is a perfect upscale project! Now I'll just put on some Pink Floyd and let the micro dosing begin....
Strong work! Love the bleeps. Lol😂
Best start to your videos.. EVER... lol. And to see the explanation for why it happened. Good ol' impatience. Love it. Totally rad end results! Thanks for your blood and sweat towards this project!
Turned out pretty sweet
Sheesh! Final product looks great!
When I was a kid my lava lamp fell and broke onto shag carpet. Because the wax was hot, it immediately bonded into the shag. What a mess! I wasn’t sure where you were going with this but the addition of a lamp on top is pretty cool. I’m not so sure about the clay but hey man we all do our thing!
I love it... for a moment I think that lamp shade needs to be twice the size, but then lava part would loose its place... love the orange in the circles
gotta say, when you first mentioned the air dry clay and the lava flow i was like uhhhhhhh, but seeing the finished product it came together pretty well! Pretty interesting piece
Wow this one is easily in my top 5 for your videos I really love how this thing looked as well as the whole vibe of the video, as always amazing work!
David be a superstar and forget about the magnets and use velcro on both sides. That's one serious knife wound and suddenly with the love of your brother, it became a gunshot wound, nothing like brotherly love and the intent to kill!!!. As always guy's 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Absolutely gorgeous!
That turned out great David! Wonderful work
Great! Depending on price, I’d definitely buy this!
OMG!! That shirt!!! Take my money!!!!!
That turned out awesome!
the result looks sooooo coool
This piece is glorious!
This looks so cool. Great work
That was a dope build! Drippin!
This whole video makes me think of the movie My Favorite Martian when he drinks the lava lamp
I love the new direction - not just the fun content, but that more of your personality is showing through. Be yourself, it's appealing. Great work!
Def my favorite of all your projects so far. Love your vids man!
I think this is your best video
Heck yeah! Super cool transformation, every detail adds just the little extra.
Fantastic man, I love the finished product and the journey, and if I’m ever impatient for a lava lamp to get going I’ll resist the urge to grab the torch!
Dave you look like you are having so much fun with this build and it comes through your video. Love to see it
Funky, dude. I dig it.
The chaotic good of this project was just an enjoyable viewing experience. Loving these types of projects
Good to see what Steve Zissou is up to these days.
One of us has changed. Either you got a lot better at this or I got my head out of my ass. Great vid(s) lately. Love the music as well. You made me laugh out loud several times. Thanks a ton.
Magnet lover here. But I also really enjoy screwing.
Love the shirt!!! Sneaky. I almost didn’t notice it. I was just watching the zoom and waiting for the song and then, nope it’s on the shirt. Nice editing!
That tshirt! Hell yeah
Now that's an incredible Lava Lamp David! Thanks for all of the laughs along the way! 😂😂👍👍
“Don’t try this at home... I’m a professionally trained KZreadr...” Lol! This was a fun project! The end product was really cool and it seemed like you had fun with it. I love how you just kept rolling with the punches, whether it was the router taking a bite out of the workpiece, or stabbing yourself in the chest... lol I’m glad you’re ok!
Fellow REM enjoyer, nice!
I love the new shirts! And this was an excellent project!
This would have been the perfect project to branch out and try a new style. It seems you went the "safe" route. Same color scheme you usually use, same walnut wood and same design as you normally would do. Try something crazy and different every now and then. When I think of you making a lava lamp I could definitely picture it being this. Do a 180 next time and surprise us. All that said the project came out great looks dope. But from an artistic sense I would have loved to see you go crazy with it
The "lets do everything backwards" series Nice outcome 😉
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Love it!
Wow David. That is awesome you're vision came thru excellently on this project.
Looks amazing Dave!!
Can tell a lot of work went into this one. Great stuff!
Love these!! So funny to watch the experimentation.
That's pretty cool.
FANtastic!
Would love to see how to make one of those magnetic floating/levitating desk lights. FLYTE makes them, but they look DIY-able.
Thanks for this video, David! I got a good laugh out of this. Love the new shirt!
Project Goal: Trippy and Drippy. Done!!
this would be a great challenge!
It was a fun journey. Glad you always cut towards yourself. It's the safest way.
This was a fun, awesome build!
Yo Dave I just want to let you know if you see a dip in the watch time analytics right at about the 6-minute mark it was the trypophobia squad ducking out. Love you man I'll catch you in the next one 🤙
Awesome lamp …… talk more on the podcast, that southern fella talks too much and you don’t talk enough 😂😂👍👍
Very cool & Trippy
This was awesome!
I have to admit I giggled a little when you put that round base on... I'm immature, I know...
Loving the new video style David! Great job just having some fun.
Very good Job...always something a little different. Big fan of these.
I absolutely love this piece! Every single detail. Especially the lava drips though. Also, I thought we were about to hear a Don Henley remake when 'Dirty Laundry' popped up as the song title.

Honestly, I hate it. Everything about it. And I’m a big lava lamp fan. Perhaps that’s why. But this video is art. It’s just unbelievably chaotic, the pace is all over the place, you seem like you might have dropped a few shrooms and just thrown every bonkers idea at it. To hilarious consequences. Dave, as ever, we salute you. You’re a national treasure.
You’re killing it - almost literally. There’s something for everyone in this one.. Sand people, magnet people, safety police, trolls, and dare I say Life Aquatic people? 😂
