*Watch in HD*In this video, I am sharing my story of how I moved out of state with no plan, no apartment, little money, and 3 duffel bags in less than 2 weeks. I also share tips and tricks that helped me along the way.
Summary: I tried to look for apartments in my city and it was a fail. I ended up settling for an apartment 30 minutes away but my move-in date was then pushed back twice! I decided it was time to try a new city and I had to go fast. I also fell into remote work at this time which helped.
Everything prepared me for this moment. This has been a journey and I definitely do not have it all figured out. What I can say is it is very much possible and hopefully my story, tips, and tricks can help you make a decision. If you all want a more in-depth story time I am more than happy to share. Let's grow and glow up together. Comment below if you are in the process of moving or are thinking about moving.

I came here cause I am stuck. I don't know how to leave without a job elsewhere and very little money. I didn't come this far in my life to be this unhappy and miserable. I feel like I am suffocating here.

same here, same town all my life and like you said "stuck". I'm just gonna go for it, i'm tired of being afraid because "what if" it doesn't work out. I think your gut will tell you it's time, then it's about overcoming the fear of being uncomfortable and stressed for a little while. i think everything is temporary and whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger, at least you tried and can learn from the process.

@@randomanton completely agree and relate. I'm so sick of the fear. But I feel blocked like I don't know how to get myself out. Can't afford to stay but can't afford to leave financially. I am so sorry that I didn't see these comments sooner. I didn't realize notifications were off. I want to say how much I appreciate all of your comments. So rarely are people kind on KZread. I'm still stuck. I spoke with my AA sponsor and she's helping me break it down step by step. So first I'm going to go look at RVs. I'm still looking for a full time job but can't even get an interview which is insane since so many people don't want to work and so many are hiring. In the meantime I'm still at my part time job of 8 years and doing side gigs just trying to keep my head above water. Austin living is absurd and no matter how much I work I am still barely treading water. I have to do something and soon cause I can feel my soul being eroded slowly and as a recovering addict not only is that a dangerous thing for me but I've also worked too hard to be slowly suffocated living here. I need to find a new town/state but how does one choose where to go?
Watching this video made me realize that I would make a mistake if I move in with other family members just to get away from my own. I’d be happier if I immediately moved into my own apartment.

If you can move out on your own, that might be better than going from one situation to another for sure. It’s not easy living with people in general . But don’t rush the process if you don’t have to. I am 23 still in college.I moved to MI for a job and I didn’t have enough $ and nobody I knew there. It was a rushed move because of the circumstances.no apartment no car whatsoever just a job. I got scammed by an apartment and i stayed in an air bnb for 2 weeks and paid at least $1000 for that air bnb only for 2 weeks. I then found an apartment right at the end of the 2 weeks and moved in immediately. Luckily my landlord was nice and had me move in without paying the entire $2000 move in upfront and made a payment plan with me. I moved into an empty apartment with just a stove and a fridge. I found someone who sold me their car and made a payment plan with me. I started buying furniture from scratch (bed, couch, tv you name it) and had to borrow a few dollars from my friends. Its my 3rd month now my apartment is fully furnished and better than the one I had before.I am making my last car payment and finished paying my move in cost. I am still in debt and working on it bit by bit and covered over half of all of them and will be debt free by next month Crazy situation but Its better than how it was gonna be had I not moved so I am bot complaining. Sometimes you just gotta do it and things will fall in place eventually. I wouldn’t have known how strong I am if I hadnt made the move and I wouldn’t have learned half of the things I know now.

so many good points!! My girlfriend and I just moved from Oregon to Atlanta, and it was a cost loss. But, the opportunities we've been given in our careers, being close to one of the biggest airports in the world as pilots who love to travel, and the better weather here makes me feel confident we made the right decision. The craziest thing I think about is how I moved without even watching any youtube videos, or using good old youtube university for help. we really just took the leap of faith, almost didn't even make it tbh. But God got us here somehow, because the last 3-4 months have really been a blur for me honestly 😂

Michigan has been so dull and depressing for me. I’m loving the change that’s coming to Detroit, it’s beautiful to see, but unfortunately I’ve been damaged through the time I was impoverished. I worked so hard to rise above that, and everywhere i travel I’m so happy, but when I come back home I feel submerged, and tormented by what once was. I absolutely have to go. I was there mentally just a couple of months ago so I completely understand being over it. I can’t imagine being a single mom and trying to navigate these price increases. Your feelings are valid. It is extremely difficult but possible. Are you trying to get a apartment by yourself, a efficiency or would you be open to a roommate? Also what city are you in? Plus I have always felt God telling me to leave my hometown since I’ve been here for 30 years and never been anywhere else. Your feelings are valid. Doing anything outside of your norm is going to cause your mind to play tricks on you. It’s trying to keep you “safe” by creating thoughts of doubt. I think you’ve already answered your own question. The fact that you have that feeling that a move out of state is necessary shows that it’s time. I think Texas would be a good move i have seen the prices in eg houston and I agree it’s way cheaper and you can be somewhere safe. Get into a state of planning. Google , KZread, Saving , researching schools , cost to ship items , maybe your car. Write it all out and then get into a state of action. Pick a date and go for it! Worst case you can always go back to your hometown. Your a whole momma. You have a job. You’ve already picked a place. With action it has no choice but to all work out . You have to believe that .

The cost of moving all of my stuff across 6 states and then moving again is not something I can deal with. Step out on faith! That's really what it comes down to. Must have faith in God!
Really good video with very practical tips about work options and getting a place and sometimes the first things aren't ideal like temp work or roommate but gives a start right? I'm older, single guy, recent unfortunate breakup, and she moved away too. I'm feeling like I need a change. The new city/state is only less than 400 miles, but more progressive state. I was layed off my job back in March. I have an online side gig and another 10 weeks of unemployment. I'm start looking for remote work or remote from that city and may take a road trip to see the place. I know the idea of we can't escape ourselves, but after she left, staying here just feels stagnant or empty for me.
I just turned 18 in August. I’m a senior in high school and i graduate May 2023, and i dont have any kids. i was born in NYC and i was raised in West Michigan. I’ve been in Michigan since i was like 6 and haven’t left since. I hate it here so badly. There’s nothing to do here, everyone is leaving the city where im at, everyone around here is toxic, and literally everything else. I wanna move to Houston, TX. I’ve been trying to move there for like a year now. I tried getting my mom to move to TX because her husband has family there, better weather, more stuff to do, etc and probably wayy better than where im currently at. I have a job and im saving my money. I just wanna leave Michigan and have my own place. Im just so over it.

I understand being over it ! Trust me. Start looking at apartments in Houston. Look at Google reviews , walk score , how much rent would be . Then get into planning, really strategically saving. I don’t know if you plan on going to college but you can use college as a way to move. That’s what I would have done. Once I got to college I would have worked and saved . Then moved right after as opposed to going back home. You got this !

Hi! Congrats on your upcoming graduation and your courage and fearlessness! I don’t know if you know that if you pick a school to go to in Texas and get accepted, you would qualify for more student loan monies and that could help you on your journey. Maybe look into student housing. They have apt complexes that are exclusively for college students if you don’t want to live on campus in a dorm. Also look into the industries around where you want to live. For instance, the south part of Texas is a major chemical industry. There’s a lot of plants that pay good salaries with the right certifications and degrees. Ex. Engineers and Process Operators. I wish you well and don’t ever give up on your dreams! Do it for YOU!

This was me, at 17, I was living in West MI and was ready to go. Are you going to college? If you go to college, whether university or community at 18 the move should be easier which is why I’m still mad I declined my acceptance to an out of state school. I could’ve been left. There are a lot of perks of being a student (I miss them) If her husband has family there you should try to get to know them.

Currently seeking to relocate to Georgia and it’s been something I’ve desired to do for YEARS. Went for a interview back in March and they didn’t even take note I was supposed to have an interview plus a current employee was having issues getting paid. I’m currently a caregiver and I’m even open to staying on the field but I’m also seeking remote positions to relocate. Preferably I’d like to have my job secured before I moved. I don’t even know how to move without a job but great tips. Thankfully though I’ve been stacking my money as I wait to relocate🙏🏾

Thank you for watching ! Being a caretaker is such noble work. You will definitely be able to find work here if you want to stay in that field. Maybe Google search care taking agencies in GA. A client of mine actually applied for a apartment prior to leaving her job , then moved . But that is having 3-6 months saved up. Definitely risky, but I say at least go into something remote that way you don’t have that headache/pressure. If it’s been on your mind, it is meant to happen. Worst case you can go back home. Good luck.

It all depends on where you want to move to. Some cities eg NYC/San Francisco or even Philadelphia do not require a car. It is always nice to have one, but you can get by. As far as how much money to save it depends on the type of accommodation/apt/room share. I always say 3-6 month of expenses is safe. If you want further help with this, I offer a 1on1 service where we can come up with a moving plan (budget, timeline etc) and/or I can help you find accommodations . I know I'm late. But I couldn't help the fact that I'm a scorpio....my 2 places I'm stuck on is Texas and Atlanta and I'm having q hard time just picking up and going, I've been planning and saying I'm leaving, but I'm still in Philadelphia. I'm trying to plan and keep control of the situation as well. Afraid it might not go right. Listening to you made me feel alittle better. I'm still like how am I going to do this because I have a child to think about also, but it will happen.
@AminahOjere
Жыл бұрын
Never late. Thank you for watching. Yes Scorpio gang lol. But in all seriousness, i completely understand, you have to think about what’s best for your child also. I would say one thing depending on your child’s age, at the beginning of the school year would be best for a move. As far as affordability, Texas would be best all around especially for rent/buying. Now Texas is kind of diverse(depending on the city) but not as diverse at Atlanta. But Atlanta can be rough in the city, the suburbs are a bit better and more affordable, but cost of living is rising there too. I know this may not help, but it is entirely possible. It may take you a little longer, but if your handling business now you will continue to do so for you and yours no matter what. You just have to put a plan in motion.
I love your worst case mind hack. Not everyone can do that in this housing market, but I'm pretty sure I could swing it. My place is remote so demand is low.
Interesting video because I have been contemplating about possibly moving out of state (between three cities) by late summer, to accommodate voter registration and license tag renewal deadlines. As for work, I will very likely be remote.

Thank you for watching ! I decided to move without doing these things just because I wanted to get a feel of the city first. So don’t let that hold you back. Once you have a job lined up/currently work remote, have 3x rent saved or enough money saved by your standards and of course a place to stay even if it’s temporary… You can figure the rest out later. But of course do what your the most comfortable with and good luck !

From what I’ve experienced in both states, I would say 1-3 weeks is standard for a traditional apartment complex. I have heard of people knowing within a few days. Most apartments have a third party validate your documents so most of the process relies on them.

I will definitely make a separate video at some point because it’s a bit complex. What I will say, it varies from city to city, state to state. For a 1/1 (1 bedroom 1 bath) I’ve personally seen prices from $900-$2200. The more major the city eg. Miami , LA , NY , the higher the rent . Also if your apartment has washer/dryer and updated appliances (no carpet , stainless steel) , that increases the price. Now let’s say your rent is $1600 for a 1/1 , add a extra $300 - $500 for bills. What I mean is , your bills will most likely consist of Utilities(electricity) , Water, Trash (could be vallet or just a regular fee), Renters Insurance. If you have a pet , that is a extra fee and/ some apartments charge for parking. What city are you trying to rent in if you don’t mind me asking ? Sidenote: I like to use apartment.com because you can add filters in there eg. Budget , your needs (washer dryer etc). Then I contact the apartment directly via phone and ask for prices. It helps to gauge the options available in your city.

Airbnb’s can definitely be creepy. You definitely have to make sure to read the reviews. But extended stay sounds like a plan. I wish I thought of that. What about breaking your current lease
@AminahOjere
Ай бұрын
Depending on your apartment complex you can do 1 of 4 things : 1 sublease your apartment basically get someone to take over your lease through the office/management. 2. Sublet your apartment (risky) , have someone live in your apartment and have them pay you the rent so Airbnb or fb marketplace. You would of course have to go back to the state to check and do the walk through at the end of the lease. 3. Break your lease . Some apartments have a policy where you would either loose your deposit or pay 1 month of rent. Check your lease of course or call your management and find out. Option 4 is to just ride the lease out 🥲. I hope that helps !

@AminahOjere
Жыл бұрын
I became a minimalist on accident lol. And as for my duffle bags, they were the huge black burrito shaped ones. So basically I moved out of my family home right when the pandemic hit. I did not have much furniture then just enough to be comfortable in a small space. As far as clothes and random stuff, I donated and threw out so much. If I didn’t wear it or use it in the past year, I let it go. Fast forward to moving out of state, it was easy because I did most of the work prior. My plan was to move into a larger space in miami and settle but the pandemic raised the prices, and the availability for places didn’t match when I needed to move out. So I decided to just leave Florida all together lol. I basically started completely over when I got to GA and kept it simple ever since. Offer up is clutch for getting things sold asap. Maybe one day I’ll do a story time but for now thanks for commenting.

Congrats on moving! A airbnb for a month will give you time to find a job. If possible save enough for 2 months(airbnb). Be open to working in different industries in the beginning. Also apartments do accept offer letters from jobs but might require additional security deposit. You got this. Good luck with everything.

Also, I know there’s a service where someone can drive your pet to whatever state you’re moving to. I think it’s called citizen shipper but Google to confirm.
