An important thing to add: In the latest Consumer Reports Reliability Survey, Mazda is #1 in the world and Kia is #19, below both Audi and BMW.

If that's true, I expect to put, at least, the same warranty as kia from now on.

Of course you'll like the Sportage X-Pro over this trim of the CX-50 for off-roading: that's not a Meridian edition. I can tell by looking at the 20" rims. Seeing as the video was posted in October, I don't know why or how the suppliers didn't get a Meridian for the event...

If this were my only consideration, then maybe but because I want my car that I pay thousands of dollars for to last, I'd pick the Mazda Meridian edition and I'd actually use OFF ROAD mode.

Fyi You didn’t have the off road setting on for the Mazda, and the correct trim level for it.

Automotive journalist. Lol. Grabs window sticker, “This is why I like the Kia more” (while looking at a Mercedes window sticker). I’m going to compare this apple with this orange. What about comparing the Kia to the Mazda on the road?? Him while comparing a BMW 7 series to a Range Rover. Taking both off road and saying, “this is why I like the Range Rover more.” Stopped the Kia where he started the Mazda and that’s how he compared them. Lol, I have to watch this again. Best part is him saying that’s automotive journalism while wearing sweat pants material shorts.

@@RoadandTractI am not, which is sad on your part because I would do a better job. You obviously do not understand how to compare things. You don’t get 2 blenders and with one you use ice and the other you use rocks and then say, “welp… the first blender did a better job blending and that’s why I would get this one.” Watch when others compare cars. They literally do the exact same thing for all the cars. Apples to apples. Hell, the Kia has off road tires vrs Mazda street tires. Tires alone make a huge difference. Lol. I don’t do automotive journalism and I know more than you. By the way, I’m not the only one that called you out on your fantastic journalism skills. Good luck.

Kia is better on the road also. More comfortable, more quitter also, easier to drive.

I have kia sportage 325,000 miles very reliable.

What a hack. The Kia rides on 17” wheels, automatically improving the ride over small bumps. The Mazda has 1.2” greater ground clearance, so your “grass test” is a joke. You should call this video “buy the car my mommy used to own”. You are biased beyond belief.

What you're trying to say is you are a Mazda fan boy. You fail to recognize the original Kia Sportage was powered by Mazda, and the Kia is better equipped but who cares.... just buy the Mazda because you won't like anyone who doesn't. Let us know when you move out of your parents' house! Lol

I expected a comprehensive comparison. What you do isn’t journalism. You don’t even recognize your own ignorance. The fact that a 25 year old Kia was powered by Mazda is irrelevant. You complain about “so much plastic” on the Mazda, yet when you grab a piece of plastic at the bottom of the Kia door you don’t bother to mention it. You note that the Mazda doesn’t have skid plates, yet you can’t be bothered to finish investigating the same issue on the Kia. Lazy, sloppy reporting. Take a step back, review what you’re posted and feel shame that this was your best effort. Hack.

It's about being in tune with nature.

I want one simplly because the last few years- we've gotten a LOT of WET/ICY snow... and bad weather.. that can come up quickly--and if I'm out around town or taking care of business- and it begina to snow-- I want to know I can get hom ok. JEEPS - that you mentioned aren't jeeps any more- they're mostly italian knockoffs and even the real ones are crap... FAR too many new companies using CVT (FAKE trnsmissions with NO gears and fake computer generrated gear change feelings)... and putting crap in the powertrain is just STUPID by any company.

NO- it does NOT have skid plates-- there are COVERS but they are plastic to keep dirt , mud etc. out of it.. NOT PROTECTION..

Of course it’s all subjective but , certainly not a fair comparison to the cx50 . I’ll take the Mazda thanks . Much more capable both on and off road then the Kia.

I don't recall, but don't they both have a locking center diff? That would be at all takes to be comparable. Everything else like ground clearance, suspension travel, and power is what makes them different. So which one is better off vs on road? One has to be better than the other but most certainly not perfect on all aspects, at this price point. Right?

Yes its actually a clutch I'm surprised he didn't know that, just reading what KIA says.

NO comparison--- the kia has a FAKE TRANSMISSION like so many otherts now--- worthless crap in their powertrain- which is stupid... They have an otherwise excellent vehicle and put trash in it for a transmission....

The Kia will be dead with a dead drivetrain in about 5 years at best, the Mazda will still be going strong. Kia engines are known to be garbage.

Ok, but who cares? We know value is a double edged sword if you watch my channel. It's can't be cheap AND last forever or be excellent. It's only supposed to be you SLUMP BUSTER! I don't hang with people that accept getting by with absolute minimum their entire life. And not everything needs to be the absolute best 100% of the time.

Kia has to offer the warranty to get people to buy their cars. They started that when they entered the US market in the late 80s. I have a friend who is a Kia tech, he is always busy on NEW cars. My mother had a Soul, recalled because of the engines coming apart. My mom is 82, she takes care of her cars. @@alxdava2004

They have that warranty because otherwise people won't buy them. A good friend is a Kia Tech who deals with trashed motors daily, my mom had a Soul that was recalled with a class action lawsuit for a bad engine. Consumer Reports has turned into nothing buy a paid for ad magazine. Kia is junk. @@cjams2000

Kia is CRAP... as most newer vehicles are now-- WAY too much tech that always goes bad-- and CRapY transmission in the power train.. and all that JUNK no one needs.
