    The ending to Afterlife worked. I saw Jason's vision 100% and it wrecked me. I sobbed, like a kid. I'm going through a lot of personal issues in life with loss/getting older/pressure from the world. These guys were my hero's. When I saw ALL them back together, I was all of a sudden a 5 year old kid again. When I needed them the most, they came back. It was a healing process I needed, a good cry. Thank you for this vision, Jason.

    Hey man I’m right there with you. Middle age does something to you, it’s weird. You begin losing older family members, even friends, and all of a sudden your own mortality is more sharply in focus than ever. I went through it too, still am to some degree. Gotta stay busy and active and try not to get so in your head about it. Easier said than done though sometimes, I know

    To the cast, crew and especially Jason Reitman and the Ramis family: Thank you for giving us fans the sequel we never thought would happen. Thank you for bringing the original band back together for one last bust. And thank you for giving us fans the opportunity to say goodbye not just to Harold Ramis, but to Dr. Egon Spengler as well. May Egon's legacy live on through Trevor and Phoebe. Thank you Harold Ramis for the laughs. Until then, see you on the other side.

Whether it's the Ghostbusters family love for Egon or the productions love for Harold, who's to say, it's still love. And it's so goddamn heartfelt I'm tearing up again, who keeps cutting those onions???

    Watching the film, I felt that it came from a place of love, respect, and family, and watching these videos just cements that. Critics who claim the film is overburdened with fan service missed something, and may be missing something on a deeper level within themselves.

  • @SeleneDethly

    @SeleneDethly

    I loosely agree with the critics, on some level. We got the Video game that was designed to be GB3, which is also soaked in fan service and call backs; now we got Afterlife a real 3rd movie... and again its got a lot of fan service and call backs. And this kinda thing is common, almost every new legacy type movie, focuses on trying to recapture the original movie. I want to see more original plots for the series, and not just keep going back to the Gozer well. The part of this movie that is about family, and that stuff is amazing, I just feel like they could have told the same story with some new threat, and not retread so much of the original movie. There doesn't seem like there is any reason this HAD to be Gozer.

    They should stop resurrecting people though for movies. The best shot of that whole sequence was the hand steadying Phoebe, which didn't require a ghoulish digital recreation. It's really sad and a bit dystopian that movie studios don't see death as an obstacle to you being in their film. It's great that they got permission, but they shouldn't have sought it and done it how they did at the beginning of the film (in profile, silhouette) and from behind etc so they could have the character without the departed actor. It might feel cathartic in the moment but it ages badly.

    My 12 year old son laughed so hard at the hamster joke that I had to stop the movie, because we were both just DYING, tears of laughter running down our faces! I don't think I've ever seen a joke land so perfectly with my boy, and that alone was worth the purchase price.

    Ngl seeing the scene of Zuul ripping her arms through the chair, after her vapor form approached from behind, and latching down onto Egon was such a call back that gave me hope this movie was going to be amazing, and I wasn't disappointed.

    While Harold’s cameo was wonderful, I was probably more moved when Annie Potts said “can I help you?” In that whiney Bronx New York accent early in the movie. As I soon as that happened I was in for the ride.

    We all know that Ghostbusters Reboot was atrocious. Afterlife was absolutely perfect. Not just as a love letter and continuation of the original film, but it stands on its own as a great film - balancing the comedy, the scares, special effects, drama, emotions, story, character development and nostalgia. Myself, like many, got teary eyed at the scene with Egon Spengler appearing at the end. Never expected he would even appear. I thought that opening scene was as much as we would ever see from Egon. Then as he hugs his estranged daughter as he disappears into heavens is one of the most bitter sweet moments ever. I don't know how Jason will manage to top this one when they go into the sequel.

    There's a moment early in this film where Callie is trying to get Phoebe excited about her new school. She says, 'You love school!' to which Phoebe replies, 'I love learning. This is a State-sponsored work camp for delinquents." That line was so quintessentially Egon... I knew from that point on that we'd be alright.

    Now they really need to remaster the Ghostbuster 2011 game, when Harold Ramis was still alive and the original crew did the voices for the game (you play the new guy, hired to carry around the new tech Spengler and Stantz made and are not sure is safe to use yet).

    I went to the movie with my wife one evening. It wasn’t something I waited excitedly for weeks or see, it was just something to do. I absolutely loved it! I could not believe how much I loved it. Talked about for days, and have been watching loads of KZread videos about it and waiting for it on dvd! I’m so used to seeing movies that I wind up daydreaming through, falling asleep in, or outright aggravated about (Ghoustbusters 2016) that I wasn’t expecting it to be anything! I absolutely LOVE that Ecto 1 got some power! Seeing it come out sideways with lights flashing was epic!

    There was no better way Jason could’ve pulled this film off. A great send off for the original cast and a great kickoff for the new. We even got to see freaking Evo Shandor come back for only a brief moment which had to be a reference to the video game when Shandor takes over ghost world as THE ARCHITECT!

    An actor named Bob Gunton… please give him more credit than that or at least reference his sublime performance as Warden Norton in The Shawshank Redemption. Probably one the most rock solid character actors in US cinema history.

    Yeah, I don't think Reitman meant any disrespect by not specifically calling out Bob Gunton's turn as Warden Samuel Norton in Shawshank, among many others (to include playing SAPD Chief George Earle in Demolition Man,, and as Captain Benjamin Maxwell in ST:TNG's "The Wounded" [notable for being the first ST episode prominently featuring Chief O'Brien]), but given the audience, maybe he assumed that many Tested viewers would already know who Gunton is. Still though, a shoutout for Gunton just for Shawshank from Reitman would have been nice.
