I think that in the original movie, she was good and well-intentioned. The books mentioned here were written decades later, and essentially retcon the story to fit the narrative being given by the protagonists of the respective books. This means that in the retelling, she isn't kind and altruistic, because she was needlessly cruel in this new context (the books). Really, it makes more sense to treat the books as a sort of AU/Alternate Universe of the original film, since they are separate stories with one being loosely based off the other.

I’m getting really tired, of them, creating new backstory’s for these lovable characters and turning them dark, Serena Valentino was born in 1978 that would make her 45 years old sleeping. Beauty didn’t come out until 1959 over a decade before Serena Valentino was even born

Well Disney didn’t even originally make the fairytales so……..

This reminds me of the Wizard of Oz's Glimda the good witch. Now THAT was a good rabbit hole, too

I feel that Valentino's books painted the Fairies in a more realistic light. It showed them having prejudices & made them more human. Had they done more of what they preached they wouldn't have villians in their kingdom. Was nice when Odin himself gave them their comeuppance.

It depends of Fairy Godmother's actions since she did a poor judgment on Maleficent's early life where she and not knowing the dyer repercussions that would bring with in the future and it's true that certain fairies can be evil, but that is also depends if they're been mistreated by the way they either look or due to their own blood heritage. If someone who can see past it all and understand for where they are coming from, let's just say that karma is gonna crew somebody's own hind out and rectifying of the mistreated person's behalf😤

She sounds like she was jealous of others and was bias. She could be trying to out do everyone but felt that because she wanted power and look powerful because thats what she felt like she deserved it.

Just goes to show that no one is inherently good or evil. One’s actions are the ones who shape one, not looks. Unfortunately, people rarely are willing to see, much less accept this as the truth.

Umm... Those are fan-written books. I dont think that Disney intended for her to be evil.

Upon hearing and watching this I am amazingly not surprised that disney's fairy godmother was a hypocrite but lesser of two evils considering that as Judge Claude Frollo is also a hypocrite in his beliefs of his own self. Perhaps Fairy Godmother from "Shrek" is the one that Disney Cinderella had all along.

The Godfather 1-3 should tell that God Parents can be evil in deed and good in motive.

That's depressing. Maleficent was emotionally weak then. She should have stayed good in spite of the bullying. Cinderella's step sisters could have used a fairy like Maleficent who had been put through the ringer. When they try to use Maleficent for malicious acts she would have been able to explain how moving forward and not brooding does the heart good. She would have been able to dish at the girls the same sad they spat at her likely warning their respect. It's depressing that the story went "I'm evil then? Fine I'll show you how evil I can be" If I read that story as a child I likely would have adopted the same mind set. She does no interspection nobody asks themselves why they feel or act this way or that.

If I was in maleficent's class. I could help her and none of the evilness inside would never happened. What do you think?

I think that the little blue fairy in sleeping Beaty is fairy godmother not because there both wearing blue but in some way they look alike and the red fairy she argued with I'm probably wrong but it is jus5 a thought

The Fairy Godmother was not introduced in the Disney's adaptation furthermore I don't think it would be accurate taking information from a book written way after the stories were even told

I laughed when it was said “ the villain, Disney portrayed her as” regarding maleficent. Disney made maleficent. She was designed to be a OneNote evil villain. as interesting as these novels are, they’re not canon to the story.

In this version, Fairy Godmother was a "good" fairy, in that she was competent (or at least had the capacity for competence). That's all the "good" she has to her name.
