This is very confusing because there was already hints of bitterness on the stepmother's face directed toward Cinderella in the early part of the Animated movie when Cinderella's dad first brought the three females into his home. The narrator explained that at that time the stepmother was already jealous of Cinderella's charm and beauty, which were a stark contrast to the awkwardness of her own two daughters. That first Animated movie hinted that the stepmother suppressed her true feelings toward Cinderella until after her dad's death, after which Cinderella had no shield from her stepmother jealous wrath.

That's because the one writing these books doesn't care about continuity, she only cared about subverting the original stories, which modern Disney is more then happh to do. Much like how they made Aurora's father the villian in maleficent (despite being a kind loving king in the original), they also had to make Cinderellas father into a cruel and heartless man to 'redeem' the evil stepmother.

Nobody is going to make me believe Lady Tremaine was ever a kind, good person.

It doesn't. IDK why people keep revisiting the whole "dark past exposed" idea. It's just published fanfiction (no shade, I read and write it, myself) trying to make the villains more sympathetic. And, of course, to do so, they always give a "shocking" twist about how the good guys were the real baddies who turned the villain evil (looking at you, Maleficent. Ugh) Do something original and have a sequel redemption arc, for once.

I always thought so too! Shortly after he marries her, he dies! With no explanation. Also, in Cinderella, a Twist of Time, Lady Tremaine turns Lucifer into a coach driver in a warped version of a pumpkin coach. She then instructs Lucifer to see that the don't return, referring to Cinderella, Jaques & Gus trapped inside that nightmare punkin coach!😢

There's something absolutely hysterical to me about the trend of humanizing the actions of Disney villains. I love a good bit of nuanced villainy but that doesn't seem to be what is happening. It's feels more like a shell-game of 'who's the real evil villain.' Like Disney wants to have moral grey areas but are trapped in the need to have every story have the clear hero/villain dynamic. So in order to have Lady Tremaine become sympathetic you need to make Sir Richard an irredeemable villain, and next year will be the Sir Richard story, where you find out he was just misunderstood, and something like, IDK, his uncle was the TRUE villain all along. Sometimes it's okay to just let Cruella DeVille be a bad person.

There's giving a nuanced backstory to a character that gives them an understandable motivation for what initially seemed like unjustifiable acts. That would be great. But what they end up doing is re-applying the Disney hero-evil villain dynamic to former villains to recast them as ersatz anti-heroes. It's less of a 'no one's really 100% evil, here's a backstory' and more 'here is an even more EVIL evil villain, so the original villain is off the hook, right?'

I’ve never read the book series. I It seems the books turn the villains into pitiful characters who could have been good people if they had proper help, and turned the previous non-villainous characters eg Cinderella’s fairy god mother into bad people, but without a sad backstory for us to sympathise with. Her father being a con man could be cannon. The fairy god mother though was always portrayed as nice and helpful on screen, and clumsy in Cinderella III. I would prefer not villifying characters that were portrayed as good in the film if it’s the same Disney universe. But that’s just me

I get wanting to maybe give people a different perspective. However, I still see Lady Tremaine as a villain because she chose it. If she was told that she was destined to be bad, she could've have chosen a different path for herself. Instead she leaned more into it and allowed the bitterness to take over her. She chose to be a villian, therefore I have no sympathy for her.

I disagree, personally. I like it when there's actually nuance in situations as opposed to just black and white storytelling. In terms of what you mean about villains. Just because they actually have a 'reason' to be bad doesn't make them into pitiful characters. Sure, she should have been good, but in the end, she made the choice to be cruel to a child who had nothing to do with her misery. As for the fairy god mother, sure, that one I can agree with. Granted, I like the twist where in Wicked the white witch is actually bad, but that's neither here nor there. The fairy god mother being good in this universe would be fine.

You have also got to remember the times. Women (wives and daughters) did not inherit or own their own things- they were very dependant on their fathers and husbands. When said husband dies his estates, money (including that of his wife’s) gets inherited by the next male in line. Basically like in sense and sensibility 👍🏻

Women CAN inherit as long as the land is not entailed and fathers/brothers/husbands were willing to leave them some inheritance. Wealthy women can buy land and gift it to their daughters or nieces if they wanted too when they pass. The tricky part would be when those ladies get married. If they don't have a good lawyer to put a clause in that the wife gets to keep her land and money, it'll go to the husband. That's part of the point of a marriage contract. Jane Austen's novels are a good source for how inheritance works in the olden days 😄

What time period? Of course they kept their own things. Elenore of Aquitaine kept her Duchy when she divorced from her first husband and kept her Duchy after her second husband died as one example. They kept what was theira and traditionally her estate would go to the second son. Now traditionally the only thing they owned was their dowery, but they kept that if their husband died. Which is why the dowery was so important.

I was told a story completely different from this and said that Tremaine married Cinderella’s bother in order to get his wealth and house so she could continue to live life of luxury, after her last husband died and to get the money all to her self. She poisoned him and gain control over all his wealth and his house, and turn Cinderella into her servant.

I like this story much better, it makes more sense. in Cinderella we are given this idea that Cinderella's father was good and kind, that he was a parent to Cinderella always and their closeness created jealousy in Tremaine

Because in that time period, Cinderella was more or less raised by her mother and servants rather than her own father as he was often away on business and it was the woman’s job to look after the home (but he did dote on her and spoil her whenever he could with piano and horse riding and French and music lessons, so she could be presented at court.) he even bought her Bruno. Her mother always taught her to be kind and Cinderella had a nanny/governess to see to her upbringing and education up until her father remarried Lady Tremaine. Cinderella’s father wasn’t a cruel conman, he treated Lady Tremaine badly as he felt she was trying to replace the traditions and memories of Cinderella’s mother and he only married her to look after Cinderella and keep his household running.

Cold Hearted, like many other books that followed suit, is Terrible. This book feel like a Misandry romance novel. At first they seemed like a fascinating idea, "Let's look at the story from a different angle." But they are not doing that, they are trying to make a Villainess look like a victim. Lady Tremaine married for money in Cinderella. She was abusive, manipulative and only cared about status in the movie. She was not good till she met Cinderella's Father. Just look at the actions of her two daughters, there was clearly a lot going on before she came into Cinderella's life. Those two where spoiled, that is not something that just happens. Frankly there was more of a problem with Cinderella's complacency to her, But no it is all Cinderella's Fathers fault........Btw her two daughters show many sighs of being abused also. I could believe she was abused as a child, or even her first husband having a heavy hand/ Drinking problem. I can see the sighs of that in the movie, but Not what is being sold here. She dose have sighs of being a victim, but not sighs of it being her last husband. Her attack of Cinderella was due to the girl being in her way, not because she was reminded of an abusive husband. Though it dose give the feeling Lady Tremaine has mother issues. She learnt her hate from some where.

Yeah I think it's more likely that her love story was her first love as a teenager and her parents put a strong hault on that, ( possibly killed the boy or offered a large sum of money to just disappear, if they wouldn't have stopped seeing eachother). And probably brainwashed her into their ideal for life of wealth and status. And then probably realized by the time she married cinderellas father she was done living for a man but didn't want to be shamed by society amd still wanted the lap of luxury, so she killed him. Leaving only his daughter behind who she had never cared for, and was stuck with her and it made for a free maid. Any "good" she had was probably left behind with her first love and brainwashed out of her. That kind of wickedness doesnt just happen over night after one bad marriage. She didn't live a whole life of happiness like that story led it on to be

The live action movie stated it was because the father was still in love with Cinderella's mom and Lady Termaine loves Cinderella's dad and thought she was not good enough for him. She did not like Cinderella because Cinderella reminded Termaine of the man who she thought never really loved her.

I might be misremembering but I thought it was that she over heard the convo and maybe misunderstood. From what I remember, he was basically telling cinderella that he would always love her mother but that he wanted to be happy/love too Tremaine. In that case, it felt a little tragic that everything could have been avoided if he stayed alive a little longer and formed a proper relationship with her

@@animalmania2381 in the original tales the father never died but because of the stepmother and strep sisters need for money he is kept out making that money and leaves the wife uncharge of his daughter and the house, and that is where the bad stuff happens, there is a great line in the out of town try out from into the woods where Cinderella finally asks her father why he won't speak to her after her mother died, and he says she reminded him to much of her and that set him off drinking and such. so either way the stepmother is still a stepmother evil and no redeeming quality and in the books she cuts off a toe and a heel to get her daughters to marry the prince and fit the shoe. if you are so into wanting wealth and such your cut off your own dauaghters toes and heel and physical abuse your stepdaughter and bully your new husband then you deserve every ounce of unhappiness you are given.

Different adaptations are always fun!

This story is also "historically accurate"; if you research step-mothers, the motive of Sir Richard is just needing someone to act as nanny and take care of the home, is historically accurate. Men weren't versed in child rearing or household chores, while they seem to be well off enough, there are no servants, thus, standing to reason that Cinderella's mom was expected to care for the large home, animals etc. When a man's wife died, his #1 priority wasn't to find love, but instead of find someone to replace the woman he'd lost. As far as wicked step mother's go, it wasn't terribly uncommon since the new wife was likely short of sold off by her family and now saddled with a kid that wasn't hers and a home to tend to.

It's still a very common occurrence today. Men leave their dying wives, men are more likely to abandon their children, men remarry more quickly, there is a disproportionate amount of housework being pushed onto women and girls, men are considered to run the household as the default authority figure, men are seen as 'next in line' for inheritances, many doctors/hospitals still require husbands to sign off on medical procedures for able-bodied, sound of mind women when it comes to reproductive choices. The cycles haven't really changed much socially; it just seems to be a new method with slightly more legal protections for women.

Yes. There are even historical romances where a man is given a woman to take over first wife's duties of the children and home. Oh look at sound of music. Marriage was looking after 7 kids then we'd the father then has to keep house. We had seen only to the point the family fled. The real von traps had to make a new life else where.

No matter the past of Lady Tremaine, ultimately she sought to keep her stepdaughter down and dependent while raising her daughters up. The amount of abuse she inflicted on her own stepdaughter was just out of this world. No matter how sympathetic we are for the villain ultimately she hurt somebody deeply and maliciously.

How about an alternate tale altogether? What if Cinderella's father (not a conman here) was poisoned and in the afterlife he sees all the misery Cinderella went through because of his decision to remarry. Feeling guilty, he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for bringing happiness to his daughter. So the devil disguised himself as the fairy godmother and proceed to make way for Cinderella to be married to the prince.

Yeah, but I like the idea of the faerie GODmother being the ghost of Cinderella's mother who grants her a blessing from God.

I think in Cinderella 2, Lady Tremaine should not be considered a villain as it was quite normal for her to oppose Anastasia marrying the Baker. Her job was to find wealthy husbands for her two daughters so that they would have security. It would have been very absurd for a woman from a wealthy family to marry a man from a lower class. Her reaction was quite normal. People have to remember that marrying for love was rare back in those times, people married for security, having kids, forming alliances etc.

I will always believe that Lady T poisoned Cinderella's dad. (somehow this comment and video got deleted a few days ago.)

This goes completely against the description of Cinderella's father we are given at the beginning of the film. Personally, I'm getting really tired of the "sympathetic villain" trope Can't we just let these characters be evil?

Evil is made by life not birth. This story reflects that, though not justified, Lady Tremaine was a victim that turned into a monster. It also challenges the revisionist history people put their parents on

I think it's irresponsible to blame everything on a man. It is entirely possible that Tremaine was cruel to begin with seeing Cinderella as an inferior rather than as an equal. Which happens even still today, so to take blame and place it on another's shoulders rather than recognize your own foolishness in the ordeal is irresponsible and immature

I feel like Lady Tremaine became cold hearted to Cinderella because Cinderella reminded her of Sir Richard. Also, how do we know that Sir Richard didn't get help from any of the fairies or witches, asking them to help him find someone like Lady Tremaine and gave him a spell to make her attracted to him?

The reason why Lady Tremaine was so cold hearted towards Cinderella was that she was the spitting image and constant of Sir Richard’s first wife, who he loved more than he loved her and even said that every time he looked at Cinderella, he saw her mother and brought her up frequently and Lady Tremaine felt she would forever be in his late wife’s shadow and no matter what she did, he didn’t want his first wife’s memories disturbed. Also when Sir Richard “died” Lady Tremaine had inherited Cinderella and was stuck with her and constantly reminded just by looking at her, not only what she’d lost, but also what Sir Richard put her through

The book actively contradicts the opening narrative if the film.

Lady Tremaine should have stayed a wealthy widow living in London in my opinion. She’d have a happier life. A lonelier life, but a happier life. Living with her 2 daughters. Or Sir Richard should have been kind. So Lady Tremaine would have been kind to Cinderella. If I were a widow and a stepmom, then I’d be incredibly nice to my stepchild/stepchildren. Giving him or her a great life. Treating them as if they’re my child. Not wanting to replace their biological mom. Because at my heart, I’m a sweetheart. Especially if it’s a child of baby/infant.

but she wouldn't have been a wealthy widow. Women cannot inherit estates, and since she had two daughters, she didn't even have an heir to inherit the title and wealth. All her money would have gone to a living male heir, often some kind of distant cousin if not a brother. All she would have been left with was her dowry, if her husband didn't squander it. The only way Tremaine could have saved her fortune was to turn around and marry swiftly to allow her new husband to inherit the fortune. And if she was that rich and married cinderella's father, how come they lived at his country manor? Because he squandered it.

This does not make sense. Since in all versions it is made clear, that "Lady Tremaine" deprived Cendrillon/Cenerentola/Aschenputtel/Aschenbrödel of her inheritance.

Mr. Tamaine leaving lady tramaine seems more of a legit reason for her to turn into a bitter lady … not this fairies are evil nonsense

If she would have been a good step mother to Cinderella they could have all lived happily in the palace but she didn’t so she saw what being evil got her in the end.

Ella was not like most kids.She was born nice.She was made to live in the ashes, so her name.

This video contradicts the book where her first husband left her and was abusive to her own daughters

I didn't even know they gave this woman a name, let alone a backstory. I love how they actually humanized her, turning her from a stereotype into, well... a human.

But she even said she married once for love Second for money so it doesn't fit that he was the leach at all

This is absurd. First of all, why would the fairy godmothers team up against her? Isn't their job supposed to be to help those in need? This makes them seem evil, and if they are this cruel they wouldn't have taken pity on Cinderella.

I just agree with all of it. Cinderella’s father was a loving and caring man, and this is slander upon his name.

Even if Cinderella's father was evil, what did his daughter have to do with it???? Just saying, no matter what sir Richard did, she had no right to treat Cinderella that way. So that is no excuse.

Something you guys have to remember is that Valentino's book is not canon to the movie storyline. It's merely a creative interpretation, so it's best not to read too much into it. There's another interpretation called Twisted Tales: So This Is Love where Tremaine's back story is that her first husband was a penniless lord who squandered his entire fortune gambling. To escape his creditors, he enlisted in the army where he was later hanged for desertion.

A detail that only recently occured to me - when Cinderella runs out of the house crying she runs to that same spot by the fountain where we saw her with her dad in the opening.

I refuse to believe that Cinderella’s father was a con-artist. Cinderella was to sweet and innocent to come from such a person.

I feel like if Cinderella’s father was a con artist, he could’ve been two faced as well, like he was kind hearted towards Cinderella but not to Lady Tremaine and probably her daughters.

Quasimodo must never know the Dark Side of his Mother and all Gypsies !!! Claude Frollo's persecution of them is Justified !!! Well, if we're making Disney villains sympathetic now .......

He also had money because in all the Cinderella stories he left Cinderella with a whole lot of money she use for her and her children to live off of neglecting Cinderella so evidently her husband did not leave anything in trust to her nor her children

I mean this is one possible explanation for the Disney version. Walt Disney is the only one who could tell us the true backstory.

I’m sorry, but that’s poppycock. I’ve only seen one version where the father was in a hole and realized his mistakes later in the movie.. and even lady Tremaine, I do believe was a nice person to begin with, but she had something dark inside her and when her heart broke, she became the evil stepmom as we know. Most villains are made, but it’s still no excuse for their behavior.

The Book of Fairy Tales: You are destined to be an evil stepmother. Lady Tremaine: Guess I'll just name my cat "Lucifer" then.

Before Disney, Cinderella's father was alive in the story.

I don't think I will ever read that book. Making her evil because it's her "destiny" is dumb. Making Cinderella's dad the true evil is dumb. Why can't she just be toxic because she is toxic. Why does being evil or wicked mean your the villain. Why is it his fault for her being crazy or mean to her own after he's dead? Why does he have to be a leach when he was a lord of reputation & status? Stop trying to give excuses to bad people & let them be bad because they want to be.

To put it simple. Balanced and how the character develops to become toxic.

Story goes to show just how cruelty can change a person for the worse and yet people think adding more cruelty is the solution to ridding cruelty. Think how fast things could change if our response to cruelty wasn’t cruelty but kindness.

I don't know... It's like when bullies are also being bullied. I can't really seem to condone the behavior. Don't think I've never suffered loss, helplessness or hopelessness. Because I have. I've been through stuff that I wish kids never had to go through. But to take that grief and anger out on others? I can't see it as a good excuse.

I don't like these Post - Disney stories that turn the characters upside down. The don't do a service to any: heroes or villains. Lady Tremaine is my favourite female Disney villain: elegant, calculating, cold, and the cruelest of them all, even though she almost never raises her voice. I'd prefer thinking that she poisoned her first husband or caused his banckrupcy. That would be more in line with the character.

Still no excuse for mistreating Cinderella... She could have put her out when she was of age ...

This made no sense in the movie. Lady Tremaines main job was to run the home and ensure her daughters have the best marriages to protect herself. By downplaying Cinderella she is hoping to get her daughters married.

I still like my own head Canon, where lady Tremaine murders Cinderellas father. Totally makes more sense to me 😅

Considering how women couldn't inherit fortunes and estates, when her husband died, her fortune would have gone to a living male heir, or...her next husband. If she wanted to secure the fortune for herself, she would have had to marry a man, and considering that they lived in the countryside, shows what Cinderella's father did...he squandered the fortune, leaving Lady Tremaine and her daughters, and cinderella effectively paupers

It's funny how people really think the Serena Valentino books are actually canon when in the movie of Cinderella the narrator even said Cinderella's father was kind devoted man and had wealth before he married Lady Tremaine. It feels like with every one of these books it's the same point to the man and blame them for the actions of the villains.

Something I didn't realize in the movie was the symbolic green and purple colors of Lady Tremaine's room. They are the colors of evil in Disney media.

RIGHT????? From the Evil Queen to Kang, Lady Tremaine to the High Evolutionary, Frollo to Thanos, Ursula to Agatha, it's like the signature colours of every Disney villain.

If lady tremain stayed in london then both her daughters would be married with good men and had good dowries… lady tremain would live in close proximity of her daughters or one of them or would find another man (not her great love) but a nice companion for her old years. She would have had grandchildren…

The true villains are the magical beings that stiffled Lady Tremaine's cries for help. For all we know, they might have enchanted her to fall for that conman. 2 days of courting is quite shocking for someone as level headed as she.

The books aren't cannon. As awesome as they are they are the idea's the authors come up with,not official Disney

I have read SV's books, and enjoyed them for the most part, but I didn't like that she made Lady Tremaine a 'victim' and Cinderella's father a 'villain'. It just felt unnecessary to me.

For given the back history stories of each certain type of villains that actually giving us more of a clarity of their own like Lady Tremaine's past. For I have never knew that Richard had made her for what we know today and never knew that she was before she remarried to Cinderella's father. If there was someone who would help her when she was widow again and had to taken care both of her daughters & stepdaughter where she should be more of a motherly towards Cinderella and be more like a true family together for where that someone could can bring back of that motherly love & affection to all her 3 daughters together and where things could be more different. We have seen her use the Fairy Godmother's wand to rewind time itself back to the point where Cinderella had the other Glass slipper, she would fix her own mistakes she made in past for a more better future for her & her daughters, where they all 4 have their happily ever after together.

Is it me, or were Lady Tremaine's manipulations subtler in the Disney 2015 live-action version of Cinderella? I remember seeing their animated version from 1950 and her actions seemed to me more evident

This just makes the fairies evil and the true villains in the stories which means the fairy godmother was evil.

My headcanon says Lady Tremaine is descended from Judge Frollo....the faces are identical....same lips and cheekbones, her nose only slightly less aquiline...

This video contains everything I don’t like about Disney remakes. You literally have to change the entire story to humanize the villain. If you have to change everything, then the character is not worth defending.

lady tremaine had it rough she lost the only man who truly cared for her i to lost someone i cared about this explains why she's the way she is she was denied the help she needed in disenchanted gizelle acted like lady tremaine

I was always told the books were a separate canon to the movies, showing an alternate universe as it were. I wouldn't take them as fact as they are essentially how the villian views everything and no one really thinks themselves the villian.

I don't mind new takes on stories, but Cinderella's father was always previously reported to have had the fortune, not the step mother.

Allright, here's the Villin is actually the victim backstory I would have bought: Lady Tremaine's husband dies, and she won't inherit directly because she's a woman. But the male Heir is too young/at war and therefore she still has control over the money for now and therefore control over her daughter future. New heir comes back into the picture 6 yeas later and quickly makes it clear that Lady T and her girls aren't getting a cent, which means no dowries for the girls, which means no hope of marrying and a life of poverty for them all. Lady T realises she has to remarry and quickly to secures her own and her daughters futures. Meets Sir Richard. He needs a new wife because there's no one to manage his household (which was expected course of action for widowed men then) She needs financial stability and thinks she's getting that, at first she ok with running the house. But then not too long into their marriage she stumbles across something or overheads something that leads her to believe that Sir Richard plans to cut her daughters out financially and deny them dowries. And that's what makes her snap. Because once again her daughters are facing a life with no prospects so she kills him and this time Cinderella is the clear target for her anger that's anger at both Richard and the new Lord Tremaine for robbing her daughters of their futures, so she takes her anger and bitterness at her lack of control over her own daughters security out on Cinderella and teachers her daughters to other Cinderella by convincing them they are finally getting the money and the education and the social season, that was robbed of them and they always deserved but Cinderella (by proxy) was going to deny them by. Makes far more sense then being jealous because she thought Sir Richard was desperately in love with her after 2 days, and some fairies wouldn't let her letters get to London because she was always destined to be evil. It even explains why Lady T was so desperate to have her girls marry the Prince- because it would secure their social status therefore financial security and mean the other daughter was sought after by more suitors giving her a better chance to marry well.

Nope. I will never sympathize with her. I don’t care. You don’t take out your anger at a spouse on a child. Point blank. She’s old enough to know better. Plus, my stepmother did the same things she did to me, but while she was married to my dad. Even had a cat who hated me because she did. Nope! She’s a villain without anything else.

Instead of trying to reverse morality for the sake of turning villains into protagonists how about going back to the source material and expound on it? That way if the hero becomes the villain at least it goes along with the original author’s vision.

This story is hard to believe

Now that I know her backstory I kinda feel bad for Tremaine😐. No excuse for how she treated Cinderella and her two daughters but at least you can understand the human behind the Villain. It's important to humanize all characters no matter which side their on that way we can understand them better as people within the story 🤓✨✨

This was very interesting information, to find out about the female character (LADY TREMAINE) aka the Evil Stepmother.

I think she probably was a nice person but something happened & she became a bitter & angry woman I have a record where the narrator said that after his wife died Cinderella's dad felt she needed a mother's care so he immediately married again. To me now that I realize this this sounded like a man who not only didn't grieve for his wife but he was quickly looking for a woman to help him raise his daugther.

I think this is one more reason to hate Disney because I remember a very different backstory for the wicked stepmother Morris she was a gold digger and only married him for the money not the other way around since they were both widows she was able to get into his heart pretty easily and then she had him killed but hey Disney if you want to make them seem better just because women strong then go right ahead and I guess I don't support you anymore so what does it matter to me

Boooooo!! Lady T was just horrible...this back story was just wrong😂. The father did want a woman to help with child rearing, but had his own $$. She was just cruel for no reason...she even told Cinderella "she was pretty and young" that's y she hated her.

These books clearly are not Canon to the films like at all, because other supplemental information exists that this author clearly did not have. Also wh6 punish Cinderella at all her dad died and she was kind and sweet and loved her step mother so why punish her for her what her father did also why would the wish granting fairies deny her wishes and purposely keep her trapped like that?

So I do love Serena Valentino’s books, with a Lady Tremaine, I do believe she truly loved her first husband that treated her well and she loved those girls and was a good mother. It could have been that sir Richard was cruel to her, which is absolutely horrible, and I even think she might have poisoned him. But there was no need to take it out on Cinderella. I do I believe she started off good BUT she let the bitterness take her heart and made it cold and that’s NEVER an excuse for abuse. It’s sad that she had to choose to go down the wrong path.

It's become so common for Disney to make all men evil and all women victims. Disney: Men=Bad women=Good 🙄

Not necessarily. In this book, they make it clear that while stepmom was wrong the fairies (who are also woman) are far more evil. In their world a book predestines everything. If someone tries to go against said book then the fairies "correct" them.

It's an interesting idea, but it's not canon, and doesn't fully make sense. If Cinderella's dad was that bad, wouldn't he have made his step-daughters help around the house, too? Why where they so inept at household chores? And if it was common in that time period for men to re-marry just so they could have women look after the house and kids for them, why would he need to lie about truly loving her? Why wouldn't he just find a woman who was okay with basically being a live-in maid? And why would a woman old enough to have daughters that age be foolish enough to "fall madly in love" in two days? She's got a fortune and two girls and she throws it all away for a guy she barely knows. (I know that's classic Disney, but still--) And if she had been hurt so badly by a man, why was she so eager for her daughters to marry, and why was she clearly instilling in them the idea that you should get a man by being beautiful and graceful, rather than teaching them not to make the same mistake she did, and to be sure a man truly loved them and would be kind to them before throwing themselves at someone?

"be foolish enough to "fall madly in love" in two days" - She was grieving and he used that to his advantage IE. "open up to me because I "understand" your pain." Not to mention back then the woman didn't get to keep the money. It automatically went to a male hair. " why was she so eager for her daughters to marry,..." - Easy. She understood what being "poor" was like and wanted to make sure her daughters didn't go through it. I'm quite sure she told her daughters not to make the same mistake but the author cut it out for w/e reason. I'm sure she would have made dam sure the guy didn't con her daughters like she was.
