I will do my best to assist you. If you are setting up HP Smart for the first time, you must create or sign in to an HP account. If you update to the latest version, you do not have to create or sign in to an HP account except in these cases: You install an HP+ printer.     I am right there with you. I am so frustrated with having to have a freaking degree just to scan some photos onto my computer. Why? Why? does it have to be difficult. It is none of your dang business who I am, where I am....... I am furious!!!!!

    This is hopelessly complicated. All I want to do is be able to scan by touching the scan button on my printer. When I do that I get an error message that says I have to set it up on my computer. To get the instructions I have to scroll down on the printer and laboriously copy with pencil and paper the instructions. Why can't you make the instructions easily available online? Instead of making me take HOURS trying to get someone from support to answer my questions. This is unacceptable.

    The most important part is missing, which is the biggest weakness of HP, namely is the connecting to HP printer through a WiFi. That is always way and still a nightmare on MacOs.

    Latest software update from HP (August 2023) got rid of "scan" tile in HP app for Mac. Replaced with something called "Printer Scan." When you click Printer Scan you get a different dialog, which doesn't seem to support document feeder. Scanning with document feeder was fine before this "improvement."

    This is not helpful scanning now with an mac is so temperamental scanning should not be this hard, and under the sale of goods act it is stopping the product from being fit for purpose. You need to change this product or send me a printer that works with this new update. I will be making a report of this as this has cost me 3 hours of my day and had to result in using my phone.@@HPSupport

    How do we contact HP? Same issue as everyone else - cannot scan from HP to Macbook Pro - Salesperson said it would work HP printer literally says"This feature is not available for MacOS. @@HPSupport

    The process is actually easy but the complication starts with the need to download and wait for app and subsequent twiddling. The explanation is badly framed and worded. The HP website is even more convoluted to the point where one would just give up.

    In my version that I downloaded from the Mac store it is not the same, it has much fewer options, and it does not have the save button, only the share button

    @@HPSupport the version that is on the web is for Windows that works well, the Mac version has a different interface and fewer options, there is only one button to put save and share

Yes, you are correct: To use the HP Smart application - at this time and for several versions since late 2020 - you must sign into the application using your HP Account. HP Smart is not mandatory software. There are other options - each one provides a scan service that does not require that you sign in. If you are using a computer, install your printer's Full Feature Software (full driver) using the Easy Start wrapper. After the software is installed, the full driver (printer software) includes HP Scan. You can also use below applications: 1) HP Scan and Capture: Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher Download-Save-Install HP Scan and Capture HP Scan and Capture is a simple and fun application that captures photos or documents from any* HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera. These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications. * NOTE: The correct HP drivers for your scanner must be installed from HP's Support Website. 2) Windows Scan - Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher “Get” the application from the Store > Windows Scan 3) Paint (mspaint) Open Paint Expand the “white background” area to a size to accommodate your data.     Years ago I purchase a simple printer/scanner from HP and it was great. sadly, it died of old age, so I purchased a 6000e. I have grown to detest this machine. Nothing on it is logical or easy. The directions in this "help" video are unduly complicated. The printer consumes ink at a ridiculous rate. I am buying myself an Epson for Christmas.

    Why in the HELL can't I just scan to computer??? Why must it be initiated from the Mac first?!?!?!? If one is on Winblows, the webscan is enabled!!!! But on Macs?? Oh no... you give us the finger... "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer." I AM THE PERSON WHO SET UP THE PRINTER!!!! Scanning was not at all was messed with upon setup.

    I can't even get my HP Scanner to be noticed by my Mac to be able to scan. So frustrating! It makes me so upset when companies won't help you figure out how to use their products and inevitably lead to more technological waste in the world. So unnecessary. Do better, HP!
