2 emotions that come to mind. Shock and rage. All this time his friend, Chancellor Palpetine was Darth Sidious and the mastermind behind EVERYTHING. Like making a deal with the devil, HE ALONE benefits sooner or later... and Vader was just 1 of many cogs in his grand plan.

Anakin was not even a planned cog. None of Palpatine's initial plans required Anakin to succeed

The notion that Vader/Anakin at some point found out how meticulously Sidious orchestrated/ruined his life, and didn’t go nuclear, given his personality, is unfathomable. Anakin could never understand that his plans for ruling the galaxy with Padme were antithetical to anything she would have wanted. It would have been very poignant in ROTS, if Vader had told Padme, “I did all this for you (to save your life and make us the most powerful duo)” and her reply would have been, “I’d rather have died”. In canon, Vader spent most of the rest of his life thinking, “if only I’d had the chance”, it would have been more fitting for him to have learned that his ambitions would never have been realized, even if everything had gone the way he thought it should have. Deep down, he resented the Jedi’s rules, but he also despised the Sith’s outlook.

the reason he didn't go nuclear I think is bc 1) At the beginning of the empire , he was obsessed in hunting Jedi and looking for Obi wan 2) He knew at. that point he was vunerable bc of is suit. palpatine made sure of that. 3) He sacrificed his life, his friends, his troops and his loved ones bc of the Empire it's all he has now. 5) he believed in the empire at the start 6) Sidious was only who understood him other than him he alone and miserable, suffering and his own. suit.

It would be 30 years before Anakin would find out that “our child” was actually “our children”.

Yes,this is really tragic. I can imagine how Anakin felt when he found out the truth. He was full of anger,hatred,he wanted revenge. Vader respected 501 clones and maybe loved them. They followed him everywhere. And followed Anakin in Clone Wars. Vader was slave to Palpatine. Pawn. It's understandable why he hated Palpatine so much. May the Force be with you too😊

If anything, Jango Fett was Anakin's friend on so many levels. At least different versions of Jango.

The 501st battalion, later the 501st legion or better known as the”Vader’s fist” were his personal unit as both Anakin and Vader. He cared for these men and respected their bravery. In turn, they respected the Jedi who led them and later remained undying in their loyalty to the new Sith Lord. Some of the select few who knew Anakin became Vader. Ofc, Disney probably fucked that lore up too.

Anakin was a fool, by realizing Palpatine is Sidious and Dooku and Gunray's master, he should’ve realized Palpatine had threatened Padme numerous times.

Palpatine was the only one who told Anakin anything that he wanted to hear, Seriously.. Anakin didn't listen to Yoda who said be careful of fear of loss ,He didn't listen to Obi Wan when he said be careful of your friend Palpatine,And he didn't listen to Padme about the republic becoming the very thing they were fighting to prevent...He pretty much only heard what he wanted to hear,and couldn't see the devil right in front of him

He caused the deaths of his friends and loved ones including Qui Gon. He even tried to kill his girl numerous times. Albeit indirectly. That's what ruined it for me. Palpatine was the clear mastermind and the only real enemy he had who had manipulated him all this time. You're telling me that this Whiney boy who so easily lost himself in anger tantrums and who got very violent numerous times couldn't bring himself to kill the obvious enemy that was in front of him?

He didn't exactly look "over it" in that scene. He looked pretty damned miserable/despairing to me.

The novelization is so superior in it's depiction of Anakin's fall. Palpatine took great measures to manipulate Anakin's emotional state in those last few months. He made sure the Anakin was emotionally spent and mentally exhausted to guarantee that all of the webs he had spun over the years would be easily accepted. Reading the book, you can feel how tired Anakin is. Further, the film illustrates his fall to the dark side as almost impulsive, spur of the moment. The novel details a rather long conversation between Palpatine and Anakin and leaves no doubt that Anakin chose the path. For me, that makes the deception even more shattering once it's realized. Palpatine was so good that he was able to twist Anakin into making a considered decision, one that he came to calmly instead of some regrettable decision we've all be guilty of making in a particular moment.

Ironic that Anakin grew up as a slave, and eventually became one again to Palpatine and the dark side.

I was just thinking if it were not for Palpatine's actions to start the clone wars and Anikin would never have met Padma and probably would have would have spent his life in the sands of Tattooine.maybe he would have been sold to Jaba as a pilot or become a bounty hunter. The jedi would never have found him.

People people what matters is that after Anakin Skywalker died and became one with the force he combined fused merged mixed both of Anakin and Vader into one reaching his full potential power achieving true perfect balance in the force and fulfilling the prophecy of the chosen one destined to bring balance to the force as we saw in ahsoka episodes 4 5 and the last one and as we will see in season two

We need a Vader live action show

There are two different ways I can think of that Anakin was stupid in regards to this. If Anakin didn't understand that the Chancellor being the lead Sith Lord and the leader of the opposing faction being his apprentice meant that the war is a charade that means Anakin is stupid. If Anakin understood that but pledged his loyalty to Palpatine anyway that makes him stupid for a kind of hair of the dog solution. Since Anakin seems to openly back Palpatine's explanation about the Jedi coup it seems to be the former, at least consciously. I think in his heart of hearts Anakin knew the implications of Palpatine being the Sith Lord but chose him anyway because really did want that power. The Clone Wars show, to me, illustrated that Anakin had been Darth Vader throughout the war.

Palpatine is a true genius in the Star Wars galaxy of the way he toke the Sith teachings to a brand new level of brilliance from the prequels point in time then into the Empire era 👏🏾 That guy truly is a visionary in his own way.

It makes so much sense that Anakin would vehemently hate Palpatine, even when he was all he had left the entirety of the Clone Wars only served to get Palpatine his empire. Anakin, the clones, padme, not even the Jedi mattered to Sidious anyone would hate someone who manipulated every single aspect of their life.

Despite his words, I wasn’t completely sure Anakin even realized Palpatine was behind everything at first. His actions in episode 3 made no sense to me unless he didn’t connect the dots (and even then it seemed a stretch).

He was pretty clearly sleep deprived in the film, just look at his eyes by the time he's in Palpy's office. The novelization says as much as well. Being sleep deprived doesn't usually lead to making the wisest decisions

I feel like a certain percentage of Vader’s retrospect is post hoc rationalization. Stuff that wasn’t actually accurate to his mindset at the time, but he feels better telling himself anyway.

Let's remember for one moment that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was the legal head of the Galactic Republic at the moment Mace Windu and three other council members entered into his office and ignited their weapons . Mace Windu had no legal authorization to arrest Chancellor Palpatine , much less threaten his life . Chancellor Palpatine killed 3 council members in self defense . Anakin entered the Chancellor's office and witnessed Mace Windu attempting to assassinate the Chancellor with his own eyes . Anakin told Mace Windu not to kill the Chancellor , but Mace Windu felt that he and the rest of the jedi were above the law . Instead of killed Mace Windu , Anakin merely disarmed him in accordance with the jedi way . Chancellor Palpatine Palpatine used force lightning on Windu to end the confrontation . Mace Windu and the Jedi Council's actions led to the jedi being deemed guilty of treason . Anakin was the only one that DIDN'T break the law in this situation . And don't get me started on Obi-Wan's assassination attempt on Anakin or Yoda's assassination attempt on Emperor Palpatine . Fun fact : The Galactic Senate legally approved of Sheeve Palpatine's appointment as Emperor . ( they even applauded it . ) And since Lord Vader was a official representative of the Emperor and the Empire itself , everything that he did was lawful .

That's exactly how it would have gone down politically unless they could prove that Palpatine was the one that orchestrated everything. Sure, we know that's what happened......but how are you going to convince the public, senate, courts, etc. something like that? There is nothing necessarily illegal about being a Sith.

I'm sorry, I still think Anikins fall to the dark side was massively underwhelming. I get Padme and all that, but how selfish can you be? It should have been some other epic reason like being betrayed by the Jedi+Padme, and no he wasn't betrayed by the Jedi. Lucas REALLY dropped the ball on that one...

it wasn’t just padme tho. he got power hungry once his mother died. he wanted to be so strong that death would be a minor inconvenience that could be fixed just like that. he didn’t get the rank of master which hurt his ego and fueled his fear of not being able to save another loved one. it seemed that there was only one man in the entire galaxy who understood the way he felt and the things he needed. he was promised great power, tho in the end his fear, anger and greed took away everything from him

Vader probably felt annoyed, based off of interpolation and conjecture from the movies, particularly the scenes in Episode 3 where Palpatine reveals himself to be the Sith Lord and Anakin's chat with Padme on Mustafar.
