I hate people that make up the grand conspiracy theory that Palpatine somehow orchestrated Padmé's death by sending the Tusken Raiders somehow. It's far better that it was a mundane tragedy caused in huge part by the Republic and Jedi's own incompetence and apathy towards the Outer Rim. It makes the story far more complex to think about; yes, Palpatine is evil and his Empire is monstrous, but it happened solely because what came before was just as rotten to the core.

This if further complicated that the raiders had kidnapped Anakin's mother a month before she finally died. From what was stated at the start of episode 2, Anakin likely started having nightmares about his mother immediately after she was kidnapped. Nightmares that Obiwan kept telling Anakin to ignore. Anakin's path of darkness was started by Obiwan's arrogant dismissal of Anakin's needs. If Obiwan had listened to Anakin, they would have rescued Anakin's mother and Anakin would likely never become Vader. One could make a argument that Anakin's fall was not so much a fall, but being pushed a few times by Obiwan, without Obiwan realizing was he was doing. First, ignoring Anakin's nightmares. Then, allowing the council to send him off, while Anakin was left with Padme, whom seduced Anakin. This kept on, to the point the Jedi Council had Obiwan privately order Anakin to spy on Palpatine.

@@WilliamAGould It didn't much look like she seduced him, to be real she told him to back off multiple times... although maybe one could argue that her asking the Jedi for help was part of a planned seduction or at least a hope that things would blossom between them romantically. But you have a point about Obi-Wan, it definitely felt like he knew that he wasn't the mentor that Anakin needed. Kind of makes me wonder why Qui-Gon was so thoughtful(like putting yourself in someone else's shoes) compared to other Jedi.

There was the main problem. As Anakin often thought, and I believe said once in the novelization of the Clone Wars movie, the Jedi would never understand him. They never knew what it was like to love a mother or a wife. And as Djinn Altis later said in another Clone Wars novel, the Jedi were trying to get Anakin to control his emotions by effectively strapping a straight jacket to them, rather than learning to channel them. The Jedi code might work for those who grew up in the Jedi Temple, because they were Jedi only. Anakin grew up outside the Temple before joining. He wasn't only a Jedi. He was an individual and a Jedi. He refused to give up his emotions and individuality. A'Sharad understood that, as did Palpatine, since they both grew up as individuals before joining their respective orders. It was only in Labyrinth of Evil and ROTS, back in 2005 before the Clone Wars cartoon and Ahsoka came out, that Obi-Wan began to understand that despite all their training, Anakin still had his feelings and was more than willing to feel and act on them. After seeing the recordings of Anakin attacking the Temple, Obi-Wan said Anakin should never have been brought to the Jedi temple. And he was right. Anakin could never be the kind of Jedi Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda, and all the others were. I think Anakin would have fit in more with the Jedi of Nomi Sunrider's time. Anakin represented the Jedi of a long distant past. As I recall in the Life and Times of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it wasn't until the events of ROTJ, mainly when Anakin reemerged and saved Luke from Palpatine that Obi-Wan understood what Qui-Gon was trying to tell him. Yes, Anakin slaughtered the Tuskens and opened himself to the dark side. Yes, he turned to the dark side and became Darth Vader. But deep down inside, there was still the good man that Anakin was. Just as Padmé believed. That is what Qui-Gon was trying to tell Obi-Wan - Anakin needed comfort and understanding, not harsh judgment. Obi-Wan said that only Siths deal in absolutes. Unfortunately, the same could be said about the Jedi. You either followed the Code, or you're expelled from the Order. Anakin more or less saw that, and realized that he would find no healing from the Jedi. Only Padmé and Palpatine saw his heart. Understood his heart. One did what she could to heal and comfort his wounded heart and soul. The other manipulated them to his own ends.

You know what I just realized while reading your comment, people talk about autism and neurodivergency... I don't know if I believe in autism existing or not or if it's different from neurodivergence... but I definitely believe in neurodivergence. And I think I'm neurodivergent because I don't think like most people seem to. But, this Anakin reminds me of a common personality that I've seen so much! So I'm not convinced that he is like me at all, whatever the case, he seems neurotypical. Now whether that's true or not, I can't say, and maybe neurotypical is just a myth and not something real. But either way, the way I see it, neurotypicality seems to be something encouraged, both in our world and in the Star Wars galaxy. Not necessarily for righteous reasons is it encouraged, far from it, but often appearing to be righteous while feeling corrupt by those knowing much. Now the way I see it, I think Anakin is neurodivergent within the culture that he's found himself to be in. He doesn't think like others around him, more like 'some Jedi from the past' as you mention here. So he really did lack in friends and that's why despite him finding a lot of success on his missions, he flopped hard when it came to his personal life. We need to talk to our friends and bounce ideas off each other... got to stop isolating ourselves. Getting shallow validation isn't enough to improve our personalities. I suppose it's clear to see that Obi-Wan was able to mature much more than Anakin did because he thought much more like a typical Jedi(of that time period anyway) would. He was essentially neurotypical and that was an advantage which he eventually capitalized on when Anakin dared to act like he knew what he was doing as a level 3 or so Dark Side User versus whatever level Obi-Wan was as the opposing Light Side User(10 or 12 maybe?).

Though I love Anakin’s character, a flaw I have with him is that, quite a lot of times, Shmi is kind of glossed over. Of course, he didn’t want to lose Padme like he did Shmi (which, eventually of course, he did). I mean, it’s clear the topic of, let alone the individual that is Shmi Skywalker wasn’t ever too high on the Jedi’s to do list. We get great character development for Anakin in the clone wars series but Shmi only appears once in a vision and I don’t recall her being mentioned beyond that. In the early stages of the Clone Wars, the grief over her death must’ve been fresh, but it doesn’t really often appear that way to me.

To be honest I am not so sure if Anakin would be banished from the order. People comment on that without realizing that once council decided Anakin would be train, they already had certain responsibility for him. As a Jedi Knight he was already very powerful, so banishing invidual like this from the order and letting him loose knowing he has genocidal tendencies? I like to believe even dogmatic Old Republic Jedi were not THAT stupid.

Biggest wasted opportunity in Ep 2 was Palpatine not going with Anakin to find his mother. Anakin had the visions she was in danger, the jedi failed to act and waited too long. Palpatine should've stepped in to be the one to help him (maybe with the ulterior motive of killing him, then changes his mind after he turns to the darkside). Instead of telling Padmae what he did (and her accepting it, made 0 sense) he should've confessed to Palpatine ready to face his punishment, and Palpatine should've been the caring father that told him it was going to be alright and covered up the crime for him. Would've cemented their relationship and shown Anakin (after he reveals himself as Sidious in Ep3) how the jedi are failures that refuse to act while the Sith get things done.

Anakin consistently lacked trust in Obi-Wan, especially regarding personal matters. However, considering Obi-Wan's impulsive nature as seen in his own youth and in various canonical stories, it's likely he would have understood Anakin's actions. If Anakin had confided in Obi-Wan, I doubt he would have disclosed it to the Council; Obi-Wan's character is more flexible and empathetic than commonly perceived. He would likely have drawn on his experiences with Qui-Gon to guide Anakin through his emotions and provide him with peace.

The only reason anakin ever became so disillusioned by thr order and feel to the dark side was because they told him that his emotions were a sin. That his connections were a crutch and a weakness. Qui Gonn was the only jedi in the council who understood the ways of old that didn't ostracize people based on their emotions. The light can never exist without the dark. The path of the grey jedi is the only path than can truly show why the light is the path to follow.

well they are not exactly the republics greatest detectives ... the plot makes them look borderline autistic . especially anakin , cosidering sidious was throwing hints at him for years and he still could not puzzle it together that palps is a sith lord ?! ... dooku straight out told obi-wan in AoTC that the senate is being controlled by a sith lord and jedi felt the dark side is surrounding the chancellor i mean come on ... how hard can it be to identify him at that point ?

Stated in both canons I'm pretty sure that that's not how that works. The dark isn't just another side, it's a corruption and a perversion of the Will of the Force, which is part of the reason it also corrupts individuals who tap it, be it mentally like Anakin between Operation Knightfall and his mission to Mustafar, or physically like it did to Sidious.

Personally I think that after his death Skywalker would have confided in his son and throughout there training I think that Ani would have hinted to Ashoka that whilst he was a young jedi he did something unforgivable in the eyes of the order but never really went into detail as to what it was or way but I have a feeling that due to Ashoka knowing her master so well she could have eventually connected the dots but been to afraid of the backlash from either anikan being expelled from the order or him leaving her if she were to tell anyone what she thought so she kept it to herself

The very idea that the Jedi tollerated slavery shows them in the very worst light. They also reject personal attachements - the very thing worth fighting for. The more I learn of the Jedi, the more I dislike them. What a disappointment.

So, in part, I'm just happy for another Legends reference, and a Legacy one, as I really liked Legacy, but for that other person to be Darth Krayt, that's odd, but cool. Sadly, he wouldn't stay in that same mindset, either, and then go stalking Skywalker's descendants 120 years later. I miss Legacy.

Still there is a missing link on the chains of events. How is it possible that Palpatine and Anakin stayed in contact during Anakin's Jedi training and why? Why the masters allowed him to contact an outsider?

  • @darkglobe406

    @darkglobe406

    5 күн бұрын

anakin was 19 by the time of AoTC and probably more independent , he was no longer a kid . he gets his first solo mission with padme and obi-wan was more like a brother to him while anakin needed a father figure palpatine slowly took that role in anakins life , anakin was even further more independend during the clone wars - at that point he was already a military general and a jedi knight with padawan of his own . so short of giving reports to the council and mission asignments i doubt the council cared much about what he is doing in his free time ... which was a mistake of course ... they had all the hints they needed to figure out that palps is a sith lord yet they stayed oblivious untill it was already too late .

@@darkglobe406 Well this is a good explanation but all the Attack of the Clones suggested that Palpatine and Anakin were in contact. Which is ridiculous/nonsense. Palpatine have suggested the Jedi Masters to take Senator Amidala into their defense, even suggested Obi-Wan himself. How he know, that Obi-Wan and Anakin just arrived back from their latest mission. He is an outsider, he shouldn't know about Jedi business. Induvidual Jedis report to the council, and the council report to the chancelor if it is a mission that concern of the chancellors office. (Bytheway it is just a fantasy movie with so much plothole... it needless to overthink 😁)
