How carbon pricing works

Carbon pricing has become a polarizing tactic in the fight against the climate crisis and emissions.
Some governments promote the "tax" as a way to deter polluters and penalize those who contaminate the environment free of charge. While some opponents view the levy as an easy way to generate revenue, arguing the money is used for other service other than tackling climate change.
Despite the skepticism, there is strong evidence and research that proves carbon taxes work in reducing carbon pollution.

Taxes are never the answer to change an economy it just suppresses the economy and limits our options. Canada needs to have a long term plan that understands climate change in a global context. 1. Canada, like Russia is a large NORTHERN country, we will always consume more per capita in energy than other countries for the necessities of life. Staying warm and shipping. 2. The world will take several decades to transition off coal, oil, and gas. During the transition, Canada needs to sell as much of these resources as we can to our allies and use the revenue generated from these sales to make Canada a world leader in non-carbon energy without bankrupting the country. Fossil fuels sales to countries that are buying them on the world market would be used to fund research, infrastructure, and subsidies for new manufacturing to support Canada's transition off carbon. 3. Cooperate with our allies economically and militarily to isolate China (the largest carbon emitter in the world) until they get with the program DO NOT BANKRUPT CANADA so that China has license to destroy the world

When people complain about the consumers having to experience the burden of a carbon tax on certain products, they are technically right! It IS going to make purchasing and using unsustainable goods more expensive. But that literally is the ENTIRE POINT. It is to get people to stop purchasing or using such products and instead use cleaner alternatives. On top of that, the tax revenue is usually divided into other things that will make your life easier (if you don't understand what a tax is, the money isn't just going to the government). For example, the taxes are often used as subsidies towards sustainable alternatives. Which makes switching to alternatives, like maybe electrical cars, bikes or public transportation even cheaper. It can also be used towards helping poorer households deal with the taxes on transportation, which might be impacted a bit more than richer households. Over time, firms that emit less will become more profitable and can produce more for a lower cost which will make your life even better, if you have switched to them. So in conclusion, yes, you will be worse of if you continue to consume unsustainably. However, if you transfer to consumer more sustainable products (doesn't even need to be instant, just small steps) you will have to spend less on the cheaper sustainable products. Otherwise, what solutions do you have, cause climate change isn't just going to miraculously disappear if we pretend it doesn't exist for long enough. If you have any doubts or opinions of your own, just reply and I'll try to help you understand.

There's no way to escape it. Meanwhile they see people in the city who get a rebate that they're paying for. It's taking money from farmers and giving it to the cities. All these urbanites get on the news and spout theory, hypothesis and hyperbole that has nothing to do with the reality half the country is facing.

Do you think the rich will be affected ? . Is China or India Carbon taxing their people , good place to start with the 1/4 of the worlds population . The way I see this is it gives manufactures a another reason to close their doors and move production off shore to avoid this tax . LETS SART CALLING THIS '' THE MIDDLE CARBON CLASS TAX '' because that's who it will affect mostly .... There are smarter ways to save the planet .I haven't seen one government add telling me how to . If you really want to get the job done give a time limit to a corporation to clean it up. If they do not do so, corporate executives salaries would be compulsory reduced along with bonuses by 90% and they would not be allowed to quit. In short this would be the money used to clean up the problems instead of increasing prices to working people that had not nothing to do with, nor have ever profited by the mess. The reduction would be held in place until the business cleaned up. This would bring much faster action than this "lets find another tax grab" approach. Majority owners and voting shareholders would also have all funds they would receive as owners taken to finance the cleanup as well. Taxing me is stealing as I have never had any say in the actions of any company.
