    Watching this just made my heart start racing. How absolutely petrifying it must have been to see this man in your house with a knife. And then to have that man come at you and start stabbing you to death. I just can’t even comprehend it. And then for Ethan and Xana to have seen him and be brutally murdered…I’m just astounded. How on earth can anyone be so cruel and barbaric? Why would you do this? It’s so frightening to think there are people in this world who would do these things.

    Two answers to your questions about the violent barbarity of such crimes immediately come to my mind... 1). A lifetime of suppressed rage due to frustrated powerful desires, so that it eventually explodes like a pressure cooker with no relief valve. 2). The very extreme brutality is an intoxicating, eroticized forbidden fruit to a thrill-seeker whose capacity for empathy and compassion has been stunted almost out of existence.

    We tend to think in terms of calm logic when we're calm, regardless of how many times we've been disoriented by fear, anger, etc. So how the victims, witnesses and killer acted in that house under those circumstances isn't something we can easily grasp and make sense out of as we sit here calmly watching or reading about the Idaho murders in the news. Also, we don't know what the normal "baseline" activity was in that house beyond their often playing their music too loud. Atypical occurrences may have been typical for that household, undermining everyone's (including the dog's) ability to detect danger. Even if it was definitely Kohberger who committed the murders, not only do WE not understand Kohberger's behavior in that insane moment, but even Kohberger himself probably doesn't fully understand his behavior that night either. Many a convicted murderer has eventually said "I became somebody else at that point." (Chris Watts was one of them). My point is that we should keep a more open mind as to how this all unfolded, and why. We should be waiting patiently for the explanations to be (hopefully) revealed rather than speculating and doubting what we're in no position to really grasp as yet. I say "we" because I'm just as likely as anyone else to give into speculating and doubting where being more open-minded, objective, and patient would serve me much better.

    A popular theory I've seen going around lately is that BK only went there with the intention of murdering 1 of the girls and didn't expect them all to be home. No way to know if thats true really but it's interesting. Would be a rational explanation for why he was so sloppy and perhaps didn't finish the roommates downstairs. I still don't get how a criminology major of his accomplishments would be that stupid with his cell phone use lol, even if that was his plan and it went different than expected. Drove his own car too and didn't have a stash house.

  • @craigfinnegan8534

    @craigfinnegan8534

    @@tylerd1297 Given the number of times Kohberger drove past that house well before the day of the murders, I doubt he would have expected Kaylee Goncalves to be there alone. Especially during the academic term he wouldn't have expected a student in group housing to be there alone. If he was following her on social media also (which he almost certainly was) he would have known that she had a dog as well as 4 roommates. On his stupidity in spite of his criminology background, I can offer some insight but ultimately I'm as baffled by it as you are. I have an older sister who's been a post grad student almost as a way of life, and more than once I've been surprised by how poor an instinctive (repeat, instinctive) grasp of her chosen field she had. I've read many books on subjects like leadership by well known academic experts whose knowledge I eventually realized was barren of the "living stuff." When I was looking into grad school myself at Duke in NC, a guest lecturer once confided in me that the full-time lecturers he knew there would "only describe a tree from one angle, as though only their angle existed." But the best insights I can give you are from the few mild self-defense situations I've been in since studying unarmed self-defense. Every time, I came out of those situations disturbed at how much I got wrong. Also, I've been a motorcyclist for 8 years now and I'm a fairly smart guy who takes safety and skill very seriously. But I'd be embarrassed to tell you the simple but important things I didn't even think of until recently, or that I've only finally gotten right until recently. Here's my conclusion that explains how Kohberger could have screwed up so bad in so many ways - in order to get unpredictable, dynamic things consistently right, you have to practice in real-life situations over, and over, and over, until they become almost automatic. Until then they're going to go consistently wrong instead of consistently right. Still, I have to go back to some of the particular things you mentioned (like his cellphone use, etc) and consider that any teenage kid who's watched a few seasons of CSI would have known not to do that. That leaves only one explanation I can think of - subconscious self-sabotage. It's viable because Kohberger's obsession was rooted in his sense of inadequacy when trying to connect to women he was attracted to. Whenever he met a love interest, he'd screw it up. And the murder of Kaylee Goncalves can definitely be seen as an attempt to make a connection with her. There's an Arabic saying: "A donkey's a donkey no matter where it goes." That includes a university in Washington state, apparently.

    Finally, a very sensible 'explanation' for a situation that seems to make very little sense - as is to be expected when we (the general populace) have only a few 'things' to go on. Some of these 'things' have been presented as facts (as in the PCA), others are theories (ranging from expert to amatuer), and others are simply speculation. In short, we can not 'know' with 100% certainty, exactly what transpired. I personally think that it is possible that none of the vicitims screamed. Fortunately, I have never been involved in such an horrific incident, but I have experienced accidents that required hospital treatment, where the injured person/s acted quite calmly, or were in such a state of shock they could barely speak. The unexpected nature; the suddenness, the late hour and the speed with which the attack happened, are all factors to consider when one wonders why apparently none of the vicitims seemed to have had a chance to vocalise loudly. I also wonder, if more could be understood about DM's response, if more was actually 'known'. I'm sure that she said a lot more to LE than 'we' are aware of, but taking what was reported in the PCA, along with other 'things', it is possible to come up with a 'theory' that perhaps provides some sort of explanation. What if she did see BK just as the PCA reported, and what if she did indeed 'freeze' before locking herself in her room. Could she have then waited in terror - wondering what would happen next? Was she listening to hear whether the 'intruder' was still in the building? Was she too scared to use her cell phone to try and contact her other flatmates? It's possible that she thought the noise from notification of a call or text could alert the 'intruder' if he was still in the vincinity. (Note: it is recorded in the PCA that she saw the 'intruder' heading towards the sliding door on the 2nd floor - not that she saw him actually exiting). What if she waited, in fear, in her room for such a long time, that exhaustion (physical, mental and/or emotional) took over. What if she waited until she felt certain that the 'intruder' had left, and then began to text or call her flatmates? If so, then there would have been no answer from anyone but BF. How long would it have taken BF to respond if she was asleep? One of the things that has always stood out to me, is that the PCA says that DM 'orginally' went to sleep in her own bedroom - which seems to imply that she then 'slept' (or went) elsewhere - which suggests she may have 'moved' to BF's room at some stage. Did they then discuss what to do? Granted, none of this answers why neither of them called 911 untill 11.58am. It seems at least one of them did have a cellphone, as (reportedly) this was what was used to eventually make that call. But, we still do not know for sure WHO used that phone. Is it true that a passer-by found DM and BF outside the house, and took over the call to 911 without fully understanding the situation? Is it true that this person may have been the one to have then called Ethan's brother, and that the people who arrived at the site before LE where NOT actually there with the intent to 'clean out the place'? I don't know, because there is so much that is actually not known. Anyway, I do know that this is a very long reply, but I've been quietly thinking through things, and felt that maybe this was the time to lay out some of my thoughts. Thank you for providing the opportunity.

    @@lillybullen5374 That's fine you wrote all that - I know what it's like to start off just wanting to get a single thought out but then out come paragraphs - like going into Walmart for one thing and coming out with ten! My first thought is that we all need Kohberger to get the death sentence, not so much because it's more justice than rotting in a prison cell for the rest of his life, but because it'll make a full detailed confession much more likely, since he'll have nothing left to lose and his craving for notoriety will need a last hurrah. Then we'll have reporters, book writers, and body language experts all over it and one day we'll get the full explanations we crave. When you theorized about the absence of screams, it made me consider that the sheer number of people that came through that party house so regularly (very late at night also) desensitized the victims to the sight of a stranger even right outside their own bedroom. As an analogy, compare seeing a creepy person walking toward you on a quiet street at night in a small town vs that same creepy person walking in your direction on a busy city street in daytime. For most of us, the sight of a complete stranger (dressed in black with a mask, according to the surviving housemate) right outside our bedroom door would be terrifying. But to those students it would have been somewhat familiar. As for why the housemate didn't call 911, the possibility that I lean towards is that she may have been abused or in some other way traumatized in childhood so that a defense mechanism kicked in where she shut down and became completely powerless and incapable of rational thinking like a small child. Just a hypothesis. So many people are saying Kohberger couldn't have done it, pointing out things like the narrow time frame between the last moment of peace in the house and the car speeding away on surveillance video. But the fact is that none of those defending him have any experience whatsoever in actually commiting a horrific crime like this. And those that have the experience would never contradict Kohberger's defenders for fear of exposing themselves.

Also, they had to have awoken earlier, because they sure had time to call Ethan's siblings and the other people that were there when police arrived, who already had been inside and seen the victims. • @lindseyhudson1274

    Yup, Dylan definitely didn't think her roommates were being murdered. It was a party house. People coming and going at all hours, just looking at Xana getting a doordash at 4am tells you it's not a typical house. From Dylan's perspective she heard "Kaylee playing with her dog", "Kaylee saying there's someone here" and someone "crying and a voice saying I'll help you". I remember college and living in the dorms and someone crying after we got back from a night of drinking was super common. Since it came from the direction of Xana's room she probably chalked it up to Ethan and Xana being in a fight. I think her recollection of a "frozen shock phase" was colored by hindsight. If nothing had happened she probably would have forgotten the guy in black or if she did remember she may have asked her roommates in the morning "hey who was that creepy guy dressed in black that left at 4?" I think it was Bryan and I think he did it alone and everyone should leave the surviving roommates alone. They've been through enough.

They did have a suspect, they were doing everything people said they should be doing. They just weren't broadcasting it to the public. Clearly no lessons were learned though because now the same thing is happening with the room mates. People acting like the police spoke with them for 5 minutes and accepted their statements as truth without any further investigation. If they were able to get all that evidence on Bryan, they would've gotten evidence on the room mates if they were involved.

I find it strange that if she was so full of fear she was able to fall asleep. Being high or drunk and fall asleep makes more sense. When she eventually woke up and left her room she definitely knew that something terrible had happened and yet decided to call the sorority before calling the police. People need to STOP saying Dylan's body was in Xana's doorway, Ethan and Xana were both killed behind Xana's closed door, specifically Ethan was killed in his sleep. He was a big guy, bigger than BK, there's no way he couldn't have fought BK off if he was awake. There's photos of the evidence of the human-sized blood stain on the mattress that clearly is of one person. Madison's bed was a single so her mattress was most definitely completely soaked in blood. This leads us to believe Ethan was asleep. Also people seem to be forgetting Door Dash, Xana's Jack in the Box bag was in the kitchen (assuming it was the same bag from the 4AM delivery) meaning she was probably in the kitchen when she heard M and K struggling upstairs or BK creeping down the stairs at which point she says to maybe Ethan (who is asleep in bed) or no one in particular that "Someone is here" and this is where BK threatens her at knife point and leads Xana back to her room, he closes the door. This is where Dylan opens the door again and sees nothing, probably just missing BK capturing Xana with the knife. Behind Xana's closed door is where things get a little iffy, I imagine BK was surprised to see Ethan on the bed and probably lunged at him, stabbing in this lungs or heart quickly after entering Xana's room. This gave Xana a quick second to fight back and this is when she probably tried to grab the knife, almost severing her fingers. BK quickly gets the upperhand and attacks her and Xana whimpers and cries out, she's probably pleading for her life when he tells her "It's ok I'll help you." before unaliving her and her body dropping to the floor with a "thud." This is when Dylan opens her door for the last time and sees BK leaving, he's so full of adrenaline from what he just did that he doesn't even see her. Dylan locks her door and texts her friends what the commotion was, trying to figure out if anything just went down. She gets no answers and in her drunken state, her mind racing from wondering what she just encountered, not knowing what she should do, if anything. She's probably hunkering down, trying not to become a statistic. Eventually she falls asleep as the house is quiet as a tomb. Suddenly it's morning, she texts her roommates again, no answer. She goes to their doors, they are all locked and can't be opened. BK probably did this which is why he left the knife sheath behind, he couldn't get back in to M's bedroom after he unalived them. The house smells like blood but looks normal because the doors are all closed. She's freaked out, she meets up with Bethany and they decide to call Ethan's brother who has some friends come and they try to get into Xana's bedroom with a ladder because they can see her window is cracked open -which is why the 1112 King Road's Ring camera was able to pick up Murphy barking, the whimper and crying, and the thud- Ethan's brother peers in through the blinds and sees his brother on the bed and Xana on the floor against the wall. He tells someone to call 911, it's a massacre. His brother is dead. The kids are innocent, none of them should be blamed for the cruelty of a rage-filled incel. Dylan (and Bethany) are victims too.

    I think BK had planned out this attack meticulously. However, as with other plans, things quickly went awry. He didn't know that Ethan was spending the night and that Kaylee was visiting for the weekend to show off her Land Rover and was in the same room as Maddie. Therefore, maybe Maddie was the target and, unfortunately, Xana and Kaylee just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. BK probably panicked, felt he had to get rid of the three witnesses, and get out of the crime scene as fast as he could. It's entirely possible that he was in such a rush that he didn't see Dylan and was focused on getting away as soon as possible. He probably knew that Dylan and Bethany lived in the house but, since they weren't the targets, he didn't want to take the time to murder them. Afraid he may have been detected because the noise occurring during the crime, he then sped away at high speed to get away from the scene. As far as Dylan is concerned, it was dark, she heard noises, and had no idea what was really happening. After all, she is a young woman, living with room mates. and visitors to the house were common. As far as the timeline is concerned from her hearing the noises, and seeing the intruder, it will be answered in due course. I wonder how BK got into the house. I know that many have said the doors were, at times, unlocked but he couldn't have known that for sure.

    Her "frozen in fear" statement and actions makes total sense to me, as I tend to react the exact same way when dealing with a situation I find frightening: After hearing the sudden strange noises (*NOT screams*) and seeing an unexpected, unfamiliar man dressed in all black walk by her in the dark and exit, I can imagine that would be scary to see. To help comfort her in that moment of fear, it makes sense she'd lock her bedroom door, and then most likely just lay there, listening for anymore unusual noises to occur. THIS is her "frozen in fear" moment - just laying there straining to hear, trying to remain motionless as to help make her own presence unknown, hoping it won't but half expecting her doorknob to begin rattling, hoping she's just paranoid and neurotic... Time goes by and she's heard no more strange noises, no one has attempted to try to open her own bedroom door, literally nothing else has happened... So, she is then able to calm down, her initial fear has subsided and she was able to fall back asleep, believing she really was just overreacting and everything is all fine and well. I think too many people aren't really considering the entirety of the scenario with regards to her making that particular statement - what all did she see/hear both BEFORE and AFTER witnessing BK exit the house. Again, I absolutely understand her actions and wish people would remember she is a victim too.

None were known to really be into drugs. Dylan's account makes perfect sense and the police think so as well. You live in a house with several people. All have friends in and out alot. It was a party night. It probably was not unusal for a friend to be leaving very late when most people were in bed by then. Winding down. Dylan sees the guy's eyes and eyebrows.
