@@user-vw2nt2eh8g Yes, it always is. Unless you don’t mind waiting hours for simple tasks, plus they generally die faster. Better to just find one that has it and save yourself the trouble. You might as well get a large HDD for storage, because when the cheaper ssd without Dram get even slightly full some of them are ironically slower than a fast HDD

The main thing is longevity. These cheap SSDs are rated to not last as long than a more expensive SSD. Not long ago, cheapo SSDs rarely lasted more than 2-3 years

@@Ghi102 Maybe you're right at $20....but there are different qualities coming out of china. At $40 it will be more and at $80 it will be as good as a big brand but much cheaper. Everything is made there, so it's only a matter of time before western companies are either forced to match those prices or go out of business. And Asian brands are sold at a higher price in the European and American markets. I just got some new earbuds from a Chinese brand for like £100 which sound just as good as some Sony earbuds I tried which cost over £200 The build quality was also comparable. And they sound better than AirPods 3.

@@user-vw2nt2eh8g DRAM is very important in this case. This is because you said you are going to use SATA, which is slower than NVME. The thing is tho, all drives need ram of some kind, DRAMless ssd just use a small amount of system ram through the port instead. This is ok on a fast interface (like NVME), but on a slower interface (like SATA) the interface will bottleneck the ssd.

I got a MicroSD card from Fattydove Racing for a "throwaway" RPi project and have been pretty impressed for the price i paid for it. Saving on removing the DRAM cache can make much sense, if you think of a purpose built SSD only used for archiving purposes, can fit more modules on the limited space PCB. This is where lower level bench marking tools and graphing becomes important. With using Linux I'd look to use perf, BPF or Dtrace for more specific lower level numbers.

It blows my mind that no company in China has ever thought to hire a fluent English speaker to double check things like proper words and grammar in instruction manuals and such. I mean, I'd happily be a consultant. $5 a pop. Send me your product name and instruction manual. And, I'll send it back making sure everything is in proper English.

Probably the name is a simple translation of the Chinese name (either literal or phonetic). Also, being fat in Asian culture is seen as a good thing (it shows that you're healthy and happy. Yes, healthy, since China for instance had some serious starvation episodes not so long ago) As for hiring native English speaker to do that, some do and just don't care of the input from the native speakers ("yeah, it doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense in English, because the name has been decided already") or they prefer to have Chinese employees who speak English do the translation/proofreading. Even though their level of English is not necessarily god enough to do so...

Just a heads up when buying, it's no longer equipped with dram. As well, it doesn't have a long lifespan compared to quality stuff. It does work though, so if you need it get it.

Calorific value generally refers to the energy required to burn something. Something with a negative calorific value, such as human flesh, takes more energy to burn than it releases. Something with a positive calorific value, such as coal, releases more energy as it's burnt.

hi -- great review -- about power loss protection PLP ... if you have written data to DRAM cache and have power loss before that data is committed to NAND, you lose that data ... PLP capacitors hold power to commit data from dram cache to nand ever after loss of power. ... leave read caching ON, turn write caching OFF, is a good work around to use dram caching without PLP

For more than 3 years now I have owned an Intenso 128gb ssd which retails (in greece) for 16 euros at the time of writing this, which is still being used on a secondary LAN Gaming pc. It uses MLC technology, runs at 550 read and write speeds, has a 256mb cache and has never failed me. I have the same windows 10 installation and all my programs in it (except games which are being stored on an HDD). I absolutely love it and it was an amazing investment for it's time, at 30-ish euros. Compared to stuff like NVMe M.2 SSDs it's obviously lacking, but the fact that it is still serviceable, even after all these years and sat and still sits at a great price point, shows that there is something to love in it for a budget gaming rig, if you don't plan on re-writing your disk all that often. Beware however because the newer reviews of this particular SSD, do show that there might be some problem with them now since everyone's new units are die within 2 months. I suspect they might have pulled a Kingston on us and changed over to an inferior manufacturer, mid-way through the products life span. My point however, is that there still is a place in the market for these things, and I'm really glad to see coverage on this stuff, for people on a budget.

This SSD is trending on Amazon in the electronic section. Lol amazing the impact LTT has.

@@DeadlyDanDaMan Except they are doing it wrong. Stolen goods should not lose quality only because they are stolen. If these SSDs are stolen, they should have same parameters than legit originals. Otherwise they are cheap knockoffs not worth to mention.

SLC cache is a pretty normal thing on these cheap ssds. It has a small amount of slc on it to use instead of dram
