How a Deep Water Well is Drilled - Drilling 101

Ғылым және технология

Drilling wells is one of the most important activities in the process of finding hydrocarbon reservoirs and producing oil and gas from these reservoirs to meet our energy needs. This video by Shell explains the basics of how offshore deep water wells are drilled, including explanations and visualization of important components, processes and techniques that drilling rigs use today to safely drill wells.

shocking what can be achieved by humankind when we decide something is important. unfortunately, that importance is normally dictated by profit potential which is then recklessly pursued and hoarded by myopic criminals like s-hell

People don't realize all the strict regulations these companies have to comply with. They are STRICT. You can't even throw gum wrappers off from a platform. They move into action IMMEDIATELY if any kind of sheen is seen on the water surface.

I didn't have to know I already knew it pushed up pressure witch built up a the sea floor until it pushed up the drill pushing mud up witch is enough pressure to cut a car in half and it had oil I think or gases but it has a anuler witch is supposed to stop those incidents it destroyed the anuler and set alight up in the air and spreaded everywhere there U go.

All this deep water drilling is hurting our Oceans, and marine life. Some probably won't hurt but it needs to be distributed with Nuclear Power and wind powered and solar energy. Quit cutting down of trees and when we do replant new ones.

Linda S Adams , well, it doesn’t hurt it when it goes right, only when it goes wrong. I live on the gulf coast, and we got a lot of oil from BP, and, the spill made me sick at heart, but we’re the ones who demand cheap gas and oil. You can’t blame people for doing what has to be done to give us what we demand.

A wireline plug is set into a tubing nipple that has locking groves inside rated to 5000# or higher. Once the plug is set and pressure bled off. The drill head is removed and a stack of valves is set , flanged up and tested. Then the wireline plug is equalized and pulled from the well. Hopes this answers your question.

@@potatosmasher1072 Sure, with a couple dozen well placed nukes we could do that and wipe ourselves out in the process. But life would go on, the smallest and simplest critters would survive and eventually the larger ones would begin popping up again. That's the beauty of life, it's more resilient than many would think. Anyway to get back on track a bit more, I think it's silly that "Fk Yu" thinks that borehole drilling technology is going to wipe out all life on Earth (or even just the bigger ones), quite silly indeed
