Outstanding!
Amazing how many participants & spectators there were back then.
Imagine being born in 1895 Hearing about the first powered flight at Kitty Hawk as an 8 year old and by the time you are elderly seeing man land on the moon. It must’ve been incredible. Going from a flying kite basically to massive metal planes flying in the air. The world changed so much from the industrial revolution until the mid 50’s. It’s just amazing. Even my own grandmother who’s 89 has seen a massive change. Being a little girl during WWII and recalling what her Italian father did during the war along with his 6 brothers. A lot of great change in that period. To advance human kind. I wonder if some of those changes though will ultimately lead to our downfall. Like If some sort of limitless power is ever truly invented and population growth exploded even more we will be like an old farmhouse filled with rats with no more food eating each other to survive. Not sure why overpopulation isn’t spoken about as more of an issue. Supply and demand is what drives prices. Think more people than ever could be driving the cost of items? Surely it does for housing.
Fascinating and very interesting....reminds me of the films we were shown at school on the 'old' 16mm projectors! Never too old to learn either.
What happened to the mine? What is the state of the mine, and the pumping engine today?
Fantastic Footage. Peter Collins was an incredible driver, but seems to have been forgotten about over the years. Its a shame as he would have been the first British F1 champion, if it wasn't for an incredible selfless act of giving up his car to Fangio. Glad to see he has a memorial just recently unveiled and his grave has been looked after. Hope to visit it one day.
Awesome. I had control line when I was a kid.
The model under construction on the drawing board at the beginning is a KeilKraft Chief Nordic A2 glider
68 years later we all have to get almost naked to board a plane, what a wonderful evolution
I flew has a child to panama from South Carolina on a constellations
As a radio control enthusiast myself, I gotta say , we have come a long way...
Yes... I started in the rubber powered escapement era back in the 50s, and I remember the reed multi-channel sets, then the proportional radios came out. The first on I saw was a Bonner Digimite. The gear now sure has come a long way....

I remember when flying was something you got dressed up for. Now it’s like a Greyhound in the sky. My Son is a Pilot for Delta flying internationally. I thank all the Pilots who have gone before him! Whenever I see him in his uniform and cap I am so proud of this 34 year old!✈️👨✈️✈️

I wonder if these participant realise that She’ll has left a toxic legacy in the North Sea by abandoning its platforms?
I order if these people realised that Shell would abandon their old platforms in the North Sea to pollute their children?

Would that be celebrating "the science", you know the one that is paid for .
what a superb bit of social history yes class prejudice meant the "ordinary" person was well removed from the things shown in the film, but all the same one cannot help but think times were better back then

There was one error in this wonderful film, two stroke motorcycles do not come on the mega, that was the preserve of te very highly tuned British single cylinder 4 stroke race bikes, like the Manx Norton. The most successful application of the 2 stroke engine is garden equipment! Strimmers, chainsaws, lawnmowers etc. There must be many millions of them around the world. Used carefully and with good maintenance, good quality oil and fuel, they will last for years. I have one Stihl strimmer that is over 30 years old, still working fine and never needed any parts replacing. Also a Flymo mower with a Tecumseh engine, coming upto 20 years old, same story! I also have several 2 stroke motorcycles, including a BSA Bantam and an MZ, which although small in capacity, have surprisng torque. Two strokes are wonderful technology.
Great memories of a different time. In the fifties I flew as a flight steward for a Brazilian airline, VARIG, in DC3. C46. Convair 240 and the Super Connie. From muddy jungle strips to the pleasures of Rio de Janeiro. Later, as a pilot for Northwest Airlines, on more modern airliners, although never in a Stratocruiser. One of those Stratocruisers had an onboard organist in the lounge. I think his name was Rollie Altmeyer? Thanks for the memories, now at age 90.
