Decommissioning the Brent Field
Ғылым және технология
The Brent oil and gas field, lying north-east of the Shetland Islands, has been a cornerstone of the UK’s hugely successful oil and gas industry for 40 years. It has created and sustained thousands of jobs, contributed billions of pounds in tax revenues, and provided the UK with a substantial amount of its oil and gas.
Now, after many years of service to the UK, the Brent field is reaching the stage where almost all the available reserves of oil and gas have been retrieved. The next step in the lifecycle is to retire or ‘decommission’ the Brent field’s four platforms and their related infrastructure. This will be a complex, major engineering project and will take over ten years to complete.

Problem for decommissioning completly the concrete gravity part. 1) Under bottom of the platform there are Skirt penetrations! 2) Concrete with synthetic additive were injected betwind see bed and bottom of plateform (Graouting). 3) To flush the oil on top of cells doesn't look difficult. Just install a B.O.P On top of each cell and, drill through and pump. i was a member of the engineering team for Brent "C" And Cormoran "A".
All i have to say is What an amazing marble of engineering these rigs are in the middle of the ocean...simply amaaaaazzzing..

Thank you to all our Oil Workers and engineers and scientists who helped keep the lights on
Leas than a few months I will be deployed to work offshore. People saying work is dead do not have a clue. Plenty of work there and also proud that it comes to a local town hartlepool up the road from myself. Won't be long and I can earn an honest crust with some hard work 💪
It's easy to forget just how much goes into every tank of gas in my car. Thank you all for your hard work.
Shell is definitely looking to the future. Absolutely incredible collection of talented people.
Lift 24K TON topside and sail it to shore, so they are going to put a 24 TON piece of metal on a boat and sail it to shore, that in it self is AMAZING!!

worked on brent b meny years ago great rig sad to see them go
They get sick and die from the strength of how hot that mud is now
Worked on all of those Brent platforms including the Long Term Field development in an engineering capacity and was sad to see how they tried to just sink the BRENT SPAR to just save money, originally all companies had to remove all equipment above the sea bed in the end of their productive life (costing millions) but of course a test case occurred with the Brent Spar after it had to be de-commissioned and if it was not for demonstrators who got involved and even managed to get aboard the Brent Spar things would have been much different, more pollution and millions saved by the oil companies

When it gets cold add lime for a shirt, and caustic for anything thicker
Excellent video
"oil and gas reserves have been depleted" that phrase alone should show shell why they need to change asap
Amazing...
I worked for two years on Brent Charlie 1992-1994
It's what!! The ship is ONE MILLION TONS! I actually had to replay that several times. That is 1,000,000 .. for those who still don't get it a U.S Nimitz class aircraft carrier is about 97,000 tons. Or 10% ... far ... me!
I am proud to be part of this process, industry and Shell. Providing energy to the world and in a responsible manner .
Wow, nice one.
Aknowledgeable lec..🤘👍
This is. All interesting. They don’t show or teach this in school I think they should. Out oil and gasoline. Come from these companies Thanks. You all for the video. I have watch it is very interesting I have learn from them thing I did not know about. Where out gas and oil came from.
Fascinating.
Use your tongs if YOU are lost in anything you do. On kick you are going to control well by bypassying high pressure flow with torque made structures like for example your Kelly. Tripping in out or laying down pipe collars with BHA .Remember to use all these tactics when building structure and use them all for the highest pressure because they will not stay in pit and basically eat smaller micros and flees with his jaws as he closes them like a 1000ft. lenghth of a crocodile.
On anything that sucks be sure to mix lime not unless its cold and you need double socks or thick socks use caustic
I would love to turn one of those platforms into my house.
Cook mud like cooking food on a pan Place chemicals and clothes ( LIME CHEMICALS OR CAUSTIC ) on low pit of water, then begin adding mud and water.
Companies has to be well versed when it comes to changes. An oil rig is not only designed for the oil itself. It is configurable as well. 2022 onwards. SMEs...General practices/standards/ENGRS-Geogeodetics/Respectively/Options/RENEWABLE:Wind Turbines/Water Turbines/Geothermal-INCINERATORS. Ptd/Trademarks/Copyrights/LLCs/Registrations/Registered are owned by their respective owners. DON'T DELETE, this js IMPORTANT. Thank you. 2022 Onwards.

BAKKEN wells we drilled costed about $8m. We'd spud the first 2k ft down to 1st subsurface aquifer @ 1,700-2,100 ft without a pressure control stack (BOP and annulus, rubber rotating head and seal & sheer hydraulic blinds) I met 2 guys- one whom raises private excap to fund $50m well costs in the Gulf...and another guy- Geophysicist- whom did seismic work for location data in the Nordic Sea
how many years old are these rigs already?
