It's starting to rain and one door of my Chevy S10 wouldn't close! I studied the other door, trying to figure out what to do, and succeeded in jamming it as well! This was the THIRD video I checked. Thanks for taking the latch out and explaining how it works and what all the rods are for. I was changing my handle, put it back together and it wouldn’t work. The clip fell off and i found another rod that was disconnected. I knew it had something to do with the outside lock but had a hard time figuring out where it went. Your video showed me where it connected. I went back at it and go it done. Thanks. I owe you a mechanics fee.

Hi, this is good info. but I have a question. My '99 Tahoe and my 96 Silverado 4x4 both have the lock cylinder fall back into the door. Do I need to replace the entire outside door handle with new locks, or can I find the old ones and put them back in place. Or further, just buy new lock cylinders and not have to replace the handles. I've already changed the inside door handles on the Tahoe, both sides are broken off. Hope you can help, Thanks.

Hi Scotty, Thanks for the informational astro videos. My driver side lock on my astro sticks. it will not lock or unlock with the key fob. however if i lock or unlock manually it works.. the actuator works because i see the lock attempting to move. I am thinking that top lock part is just gunked up with stuff. any insight? should i spray the to of lock mech with lithium grease?

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO, got my door latch unstuck. Just open the inside handle and then with a key or small screwdriver lift thedoor latch, works like a charm.

Hey Scotty, I know this vid is from a while ago, but the jaws on that latch, are the coated with a plastic molding? And if so, when they're worn, would that cause the door not to close and seal tightly? I am having lots of wind blowing in while driving and also a loose door on the striker, not at the hinge, as I replaced them.

This was great! Do you have a video on how to adjust the door lock settings and the striker so you don't get binding? Mine tends to want to 'stick' when opening the door...so it seems the lock is sticking to the striker...which can be a bit typical of 3rd gen camaros....doors sag. But mine are good right now, I just need to adjust so they close/open smoothly. Thank you!

I've got a 97 chevy astro van that has a linkage problem with the door handle linkage. I got some removal and re-install door latch assembly tips, but what is a fix for linkage that won't open door from outside handle 🤔. Clearances with the door lock linkage seems good! Stumped on it!

That is a good demo - what should I look for if the indoor does not open the door but the outside handle does. I checked the rod and its engaging but will not release the latch

Best video I’ve seen yet…. Now for my problem. I’ve got the interior panels off what DI I have to do to unlatch it? 1999 Chevy truck, drivers door. All the rods appear to be connected and working but door doesn’t unlatch. Neither the outside or interior handles open it. I’m thinking it’s not unlocking but I can’t tell. Ideas?

jaybo107 If you can get the interior door panel off, there is a tab on the actual door latch inside the door that releases the hook on the door striker and opens the door. Of course, it is very small and can only be reached by reaching under the lever that the door handle raises on the latch using either a screwdriver of some other kind of tool. It is rather difficult to find, but if you lock and unlock the door while looking at the lever on the latch inside the door, you will see the tab moving back and forth.

My truck was broken into with the keyhole. I bought a door handle without the keyhole to avoid a second brake in. So I took off the rod that's connected to the key cylinder. Then I started to have problems with the interior door rod that you can see go up and down. Is it because of the rod I removed ?

Is the shortest rod the outside lever?

Granted, the answer was so obvious (lift the handle while pushing the latch back out) that I feel pretty silly, but all the same, thank you kindly for having this up. Saved the day!

2009 traverse. Passenger rear door lock is broken. Door is open but locked! Got it to close after pulling the srriker with a scewdriver. Is this something a little wd40 can fix or do I need parts? and for the parts... do i buy a striker or door latch assembly?

I would pull out the doorlatch and let it sit in gasoline overnight, lube it up and put it in the next day.

I have a 97 chevy astor. My outside door handle broke and I replaced it. It worked fine for a couple of days and now the door will not open from the inside or the outside. And now both doors will not open. The other door that I did not work on will only open from the inside and the door that I worked on will not open at all. Like I said they both worked fine a few days after fixing them and now this. What do you think it is? I think is has something to do with the locks. But how do I get the door open that I changed the handle on to adjust the lock? Thank you. Your friend Bryant from North Carolina.

Dude I'm in the same boat. I replaced driver & passenger outer door handles. Everything worked fine until a couple days later the driver side door won't open. And I too feel like it has something to do with the lock mechanism. I looks like it goes all the way into the lock position, but when you try to slide it to unlock it only seems like it slides halfway. And I can't really get the door panel off because it's impossible unless it's open. So yea. Im all out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. HELP SCOTTY!!

What if the door latch wont stay closed? People have problem with the latch not releasing, mine wont stop. It's like a spring is keep it from staying closed. Cant find anything wrong. Any advice?

Our 91 Chevy conversion van has side doors instead of sliding doors. All of a sudden the left door latch no longer catches. Therefore the door is really not locked. Any ideas?

I put in the latch then hooked all the wires in, but when I pull the out side handle nothing on the door panel moved I then close the door but I had to open the door from the in side leveler. I check to make sure every thing move freely. But I fail to remove the out side latch when I do pull on the door handle it moves out and in but it won't open the door. So after viewing your program I will disconnect the out side handle. it seen to me that the door handle is not doing any thing when I pull on it. Sir Your presentation is a great. I will try again.

If it's no longer locking .. that means the latch has failed correct? I thought it was the actuator but it wasn't.

My door doesn't close fully when I shut it, unless I slam it. It stays half-latched, but slightly ajar. The pin seems to be aligned vertically with the latch, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. It just seems to bounce open a bit. Any ideas?

I made sure that the latch was working before closing the door but it still locked up with the door closed. Any way to get that open short of cutting the striker pin through the door slot? I think the problem lies in a faulty latch not the lock assembly.

door latch mechanism on my bonneville pontiac 1990 LR door I'm working on / Actually both rear doors won't open from outside or inside. the rods are bent i think and unhooked. after crawling in the back seat many times in and out to get tools. I finally gave upon turning the right thing the rod would of turned to open the door. Could be its not working , or just all the rods hook up on the back side i can't see. so I finally went through the seal to the round pin it latches to with the torque's head and started bending the inside I can straighten where nobody will see it till I was able to force the jam thing jaws around the pin it locks on when door is shut . Now with the door open. I of coarse need a new 16631627 or I 'm going to a donor car a 1986 delta 88 royal sedan I never hauled in. I guess I have the ribbon type window opener all has to come out to get the rear of window guide out ot the way to replace door lock mechanism . then If i get though that left rear door I still have the same thing with the right rear but I might learn well the lock mechanism door latch thing is in my hand, what I was supposed to trigger to release the door to open the jaws on the latch.

I broke the inside door lever on a 1998 Chevy 2500 PU passenger side. I replaced it and the outside one broke. I replaced it and it would no longer work at all. I replaced the whole door lock actuator assembly. Now if I lock it, I cannot open it. Any suggestions?
