"... an entertaining ride." - Arrowinthehead.com
One night in the house, one million bucks, no questions asked. But there is a catch for anyone who accepts the offer. Murder is a way of life at the House on Haunted Hill, a jolting, effects-ramped remake of the 1959 cult classic that starred Vincent Price and was directed by screen horror legend William Castle. Geoffrey Rush plays twisted theme park bigshot Stephen Price, who's hosting a scary/jokey birthday bash for his wife (Famke Janssen) at an abandoned institute for the criminally insane. Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson, Peter Gallagher and Chris Kattan portray strangers mysteriously assembled for the event that could make them all very rich. Or profoundly dead. And you? We wouldn't start the party without you.

I mean yeah. But there are still horror movies that aren't rape/gore fests. There are good horror movies still made today, and there were a lot of trash ones back then too. Not dissing 90s or 2000s horror movies but there's always this "good ol' days" phenomenon where people think things were superior in the past. Whether it be music, films, tv. Anything. In 20 years, people will say the same thing about today's media. "The 2010s and 2020s just hit different. Those were the days". Guaranteed people will do that lmao. But hey man I'm not tryna talk crap about nostalgia. Nothing wrong with a little nostalgia. It's just something I've noticed people do. I do it too sometimes, I think everyone does

This is one of the best horror films out there. It's not your typical run-of-the mill, jump-scare film that you can easily predict. This one I would consider to be more of a psychological mystery thriller that mixes supernatural and real horror. It has a lot of disturbing images and some gore.

I watched this movie about 2 years ago and I really enjoyed it. I got the scream factory edition on blu ray for Christmas and I’m happy to have it in my ever growing horror movie collection. To me the 80s are the golden age of horror movies but the 90s and 2000s are like the silver age and they’re amazing their unique scariness/creepiness and practical effects gore like the 80s :). watched this recently. great movie until the release of the 'darkness' or whatever, when Price throws his wife through that wall to release it. Then the CGI really doesn't hold up. Up until that point the movie is still rock solid. I mean where else are you gonna find Chris Kattan in a horror movie?

House on Haunted Hill is one of my favorite best remarke horror movie ever too so much.
I remember the movie started with the "sweet dreams" song and for me, that was a big no. I went to another room while my older siblings watched it. I was sacared to death :') good memories.
Hated it the first time I saw it in theaters, thought about it, saw it again, and loved it. Still do. In addition to its source, it was clearly inspired by the film Jacob's Ladder.
I can't remember it anymore but i do remember watching it on the cinema and i thought i couldn't finish it, so scary i was
I loved the remake it was scary when I was a child
That scene with the psychorotoscope “what would drive a mad man sane…” F*****D WITH MY BRAIN! Something about it was too… familiar…

It took me umpteenth years to realize Evelyn the wife knew her husband would shred the list and went back to reinvite everyone she invited to begin with... we never saw the first list... we saw him shred it then start another list only to be called away and then we see the names just popup ... once she kissed they guy it never dawned on me that they knew each other prior to the house lol I'm rewatching it for the 100000000x she planned the whole thing because ofc they had this weird about wanting to kill each other and she thought this would be her chance to kill her husband and get away with it I dnt think she knew the house was really alive
