"... an entertaining ride." - Arrowinthehead.com
One night in the house, one million bucks, no questions asked. But there is a catch for anyone who accepts the offer. Murder is a way of life at the House on Haunted Hill, a jolting, effects-ramped remake of the 1959 cult classic that starred Vincent Price and was directed by screen horror legend William Castle. Geoffrey Rush plays twisted theme park bigshot Stephen Price, who's hosting a scary/jokey birthday bash for his wife (Famke Janssen) at an abandoned institute for the criminally insane. Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson, Peter Gallagher and Chris Kattan portray strangers mysteriously assembled for the event that could make them all very rich. Or profoundly dead. And you? We wouldn't start the party without you.

The thought of running never crossed her mind. From the disturbing moment with her camera to the ghost standing behind her, she just stood there until something happened to her.

This was my favourite scene in this movie, but what I never realised until now was the light source from the grate at 2:09 suddenly filling with blood was an especially nice touch.

I gotta give props because this movie and Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow are what got me to love horror films-despite making me lose roughly 4 months of sleep lol

I was 13 when I watched this and this shot with the camera was just incredible to me. Absolutely love this shot, very smart.
as a young kid i used to watch a lot of horror movies with my family when blockbuster was still a thing. this scene has always stuck with me especially when they all look up and turn around together. its a shame they ruin it with the usual Hollywood jumpscare tactic instead of having them stalk her slowly through the camera.
@Tateisadrummachine

I agree big time, though I’m all for the jump scare with this one, it’s so unique the way they show the ghost in the doorway before, and the way it’s all twitchy with the flashes of gore and disturbing imagery are super cool, modern movies are too “afraid” to get this weird these days lol

What a fuckin set they had on this film! Underrated gem. Not the best "ending" but 90 percent of the film is just pure horror mayhem! Love this movie and the original

She is one brave woman! Those sounds the ghosts were making would have made me run for my life!

This scene scared the CRAP outta me when I was a kid
A masterclass of horror movie making. The scariest things are the things not explicitly explained to you. After she sees those crazy ghosts in front of her and then turns and sees that misshapen creature behind you KNOW she's doubly screwed because where can she run to?
