You have to face the ugly truth when you move in with someone, and you have to explain why you have so many figures. Your spouse will force you to sell them because most women aren't collectors themselves, and they have no concept of what they mean to you. I agree with allot of what you said, some figures are unfortunately impulse buys, and others are ones you didn't think you wanted, however, they're pretty cool. We all make bad choices when we buy anything really, Hot Toys aren't any different. 1/6th scale toys put a major drain on your wallet, I probably could've traveled to Europe several times over if I hadn't been entrenched in the hobby for so long, it can definitely become all consuming. People shouldn't look at these things as investments, it's very easy to lose money because many people refuse to pay full price. You have to control your impulses, things can get out of hand very quickly, I've had moments where I cursed myself for not buying something, then to get it later on ebay paying a premium. If it's life or Hot Toys, you should choose life because they come and go, you only get one life.

Excellent comment. Outside of having to sell your collection for a future spouse. If she doesn’t accept your interest and hobby then she isn’t for you. Maybe compromise to be more selective when it comes to space and finances with said spouse. But yeah I agree with everything else.

OG collector right here. I got my first hot toys figure in 2008 with the DX01 Joker. I have not stopped collecting one sixth scale since. I had a few years here and there that were silent. But for the most part once I started in this hobby, it has been a chase. I want the next figure to put in the collection next to his buddy in the collection 😂😂 Right now, I get third party figures because of the price. I can't collect the way I used to. Not that I've seen too many things that I want from hot toys. But there has been a few that caught my eye. Either way I wish I had this knowledge of collecting back then from this video. But that was 14 years ago 😮🤔🤔😱😱🤯🤯🤯 Hot Toys was brand new to the world of collecting. Thank you for your videos, they're always a great watch and listen

Facts of life!

I'll admit that when I first started a couple of years ago I went a bit overboard with my purchases though I did always focus on Marvel and DC characters and nothing else. My latest purchase of the Avengers Hulk from Japan set me back a pretty penny but I had been pining for it for a long while and I finally pulled the trigger. I think that I have been able to restrain myself pretty well (considering I'm close to 50 years old) and only go for characters that I feel are "essential" for me to have in the collection not go and buy every figure that comes out just for the sake of having it. Good video that makes people sit and think a bit. Always good to sit and think about where you are going in any aspect of life.

It really comes down to buying and collecting for yourself, or to boast to other collectors. I've seen the same in the home theater hobby, which can be insanely expensive. Many have to go through heart break and debt to discover it's an empty chase.

I've designed & built hundreds of HT spaces around the country that, a single HT space surpasses the total cost of every Hot Toy ever MFD, easy. Good media rooms are still in demand.

For me I kinda had to step away from my collecting hobby because my wife’s car got stolen from her workplace, so we’ve been car shopping and found the vehicle we wanted. I’ve been doing a lot of research on cars lately and got hooked into the car world, but not for collecting but more of a knowledge standpoint on how to maintain your car and etc. I still have a ton of figures on preorders and might have to cancel some of them so that I can put money towards the new vehicle.. sacrifices had to be made because let’s be realistic, a car is more important and useful compared to a figure itself. I hope my example helps out with what you’ve been saying all along Keco; priority over your hard earned money!

I started collecting Star Wars 1/6 figures way back in 1980 with Kenner's IG88. Since then, I have collected nearly ever single 1/6 scale figure from Kenner, Hasbro, Sideshow, Marmitt, Tamashi to Hot Toys. There is something about combining large posable figures with cloth accessories. All were considered the best at the time, and even now, I love the rare Kenner figures, to the quirky Hasbro versions and will continue collecting 1/6 until I cannot.

Perfectly said! It's really a love-hate relationship. Some days it's the best thing ever and other days all you see is a huge waste of time and money. In theory, if you quit, you would have a surplus of both time and money... but what would you do with it. That's the question I've never been able to answer. 🤔 Fear (of missing out on future things) and attachment. Yoda warned Anakin about this and we see how that turned out. 😂

Solid video as always Keco! Got a video idea for you! You’ve touched on this in other videos but haven’t seen you expand on it as a topic exactly. “The endgame of collecting”: Is there such a thing for a collector when planning out a collection? Should it be considered? Very similar to the big picture but more focused on what it means to reach the endgame and whether one can really go on collecting forever. Like should new collectors have an endgame in mind or collect whatever they want without regard to an endgame? And the ultimate question: what does Keco’s endgame look like?! Like I said, you’ve touched on this briefly before. I was intrigued when you dropped “what is the point” and I feel like an “endgame of collecting” video could be a nice companion piece. Anyway just an idea! I also think the title “endgame of collecting” or something with endgame in the title could really grab a viewers attention.

I feel so lucky that the first premium 1/6 figure i got was and still is my grail 😅. It’s true it took me a year and a half to hunt it and then a whole storm of problems to actually arrive to me . But that’s the figure that got me into 1/6 and remains the figure i care and love the most , so everything else is secondary .

@@KeCoCollects Asmus Toys Thranduil 🥰 Found blog photos basically by random luck trying to google what merch existed related to Thranduil The Elven King from The Hobbit . And I couldn’t believe such figures looking so much like the actor in role existed . Couldn’t find him anywhere since he was a limited release ( 600 pieces ,numbered ), never to be rereleased by Asmus ,which were all long gone . Wrote emails to Asmus ,searched the web daily for months ,was sold out everywhere , until I finally started catching some eBay listings ( all of them 5x retail ,on top of it mostly scams ) . Then I saw other LOTR/TH figures by Asmus ,which were available ,but I decided ,not to get any of them before I could get him first ,otherwise they would have only reminded me what I couldn’t have . So,once I got him I started getting other characters that I like ( and mainly fit with him ) . But he remains my ultimate and only grail ❤️.

Well done, articulate and great presentation. I agree with your points. I feel Hot Toys have ramped it up! I have spent too much really, and I also collect EXO 6 as a massive Trekkie! I definitely need to slow things down! Space is not at a premium and I am very happy with what I have, so a natural slowing will occur!

I've seen this craziness in my local 1/6 group. People are buying figures from each other and they sell them week later. It happens more than it should and I can't really say why. Compuslive spending? ADD? I really can't say.

I have to say I disagree with you 100% this time. You said we’re never satisfied us while we always do more. I think the satisfaction expands because new stuff is coming out so for me every time a new figure comes out I’m excited to add it to my collection. So from my perspective, I’m excited to add new members to my family of figures and I’m glad that the collecting hobby is able to expand every time something new comes out. I think that’s the point of collecting I collect because I like adding stuff to my collection, not because I wanted to stop I don’t want the collecting to stop.

My last delivery was November (i has already paid for it) but my last purchase that i was chasing was the start of June. I've become very picky with what I order. Are there figures I want now? Sure. But as you said theres no point spending the money for no reason. I'll hold off, if i still want it in a few months I'll get it. Maybe in a sale. It's all about self control

I was a huge fan of the Rock. He really came off genuine and I always enjoyed his films. Black Adam was the film that kinda broke that illusion, but in fairness I hated the character of the kid more than anything so it wasn't really on him. It was in the aftermath where I was reading kind of how braggadocios he was when it came to what he was going to do for the DCEU but the nail in the coffin was when he teamed up with Oprah in that disgusting video. Having said that, I'm actually surprisingly able to separate the character from the actor. I enjoyed the Flash despite everything Ezra did, I actually didn't hate seeing Amber in the last aquaman movie. And yes, Rock's Black Adam figure DEFINITELY looks cool. But you're right, we all have to exercise discipline in picking things up just cause they look cool. Right now, I'm debating getting Superior Spiderman. I have no emotional attachment to it other than the fact that that was the suit I played in during the game cause it looks cool. Plus, all my other video game spideys are in their boxes - I go back and forth on regretting getting them EXCEPT Scarlet Spider. I recently bought the Batman Beyond suit from the Arkham game at a steal even though I don't have any other figures from the games. But I definitely have plans to get more figures in that line even though I'm breaking my rule of only getting MCU (primarily Infinity Saga), named Mandalorians, and live action Batmen.

My ass got scammed by a legit reputable person I bought over 30 figures from...then he up and walked away with 30k of peoples money and I was out an inart joker...didn't financially impact me but I couldn't bring myself to grab another 2 pack...and going to my wife to tell her I got scammed on a 1300 dollar toy was a new low 🤣🤣

Keko, I take it that when you say “collecting Hot Toys” that you are referring to 1/6 scale toys asa whole. In that iphone had come to represent smartphones. I ask because Hot Toys are not the end all, be all of 1/6 figure collecting, yet its mostly what everyone hears about.

It's the most prominent brand - of course this applies to any and all collecting. Just easier to say "hot toys" than "1/6 premium format figures" :)

About someone who force you you to sell figures or toys because if women, partners or whatever in relationship are not their styles. However, I do not have partner yet, but I am thinking about the future. Any advice of relationship about collecting? Should I tell my future partner about my purpose?

ALWAYS let them know what you are into. Hiding it isn't healthy. Don't go overboard right away, and maybe some tweaks need to be made to your lifestyle once you find your person. It's a partnership and everyone should be on board. Perhaps I can talk further about this on a video

Hey quick question you mention waiting on the Batman hot toy. Could you clarify that more. Are you waiting to see if more will come in stock at retail price, or will you buy one used in a year or two? Also on a side note love your take on making videos for this industry. So, if I have a pre order for the new Kenobi Vader I should expect that to still take awhile even though some people have them. Because I will have to wait until sideshow gets their allocation. (If so, in your experience how long of a wait should I be expecting if I pre-ordered him back in November.
