I decided to toss out my boxes last year after remodeling my basement. I realized that I had no plan to sell anything. And I could use the storage space for other things. So I bagged all the accessories into a couple of storage bins and tossed the boxes. I felt super and haven’t had a regret since. Great video by the way!

I don't think I could ever throw away most of my boxes. Granted, I have a small collection of Hot Toys, consisting of eleven figures so far. Especially the Iron Man/War Machine, etc, boxes... ain't no way I'd throw those away, those have actual effort put into presentation. My reasons for keeping them is not because of value, but I very much enjoy the artwork - even on the rather bland Star Wars boxes, but I could most certainly see myself throwing those away, were my space to run out like that.😅 LOL @ the MJ skit. Real. Very much appreciate these sorta videos. Makes you think and revaluate. You've quickly become my favorite KZreadr in this sphere.

I put mine in some tackle boxes. Pretty easy to keep organized

Things I’ve learned: >Resale of anything you collect is always about half, with a few exceptions. You/I probably won’t get one of the exceptions. >Buy what you like. Quality over quantity. >If you want a keep them in boxes, do it. It takes up more space. Fragile figures and sets are usually good options to keep in the box. >Keep your collection relatively small. Display is what makes it look better. A lot of figures crammed up together doesn’t look good. >Consider the money you spend on collecting gone, when you spend it. It’s not an investment

I actually prefer buying figures loose nowadays to save on space. The only exceptions are the figures I get on Sideshow. Thank you Keco for making this video! I’m definitely reconsidering keeping some of the boxes I have piled up in my closet. I have room for figures on my shelves still, but no more room for their boxes.

I was in the same situation had my boxes in storage for a while and realized I had to take everything out. The monthly charges were ridiculous and that money I could put into a figure….lol Now I have place to put all my boxes and appreciate everything.

precisely why i mentioned in one of your previous videos that i get rid (recycle) of the boxes due to space or otherwise. i very seldom retain the box unless it's MISB and not planned to open at all. once i open an item, box is gone regardless since for me i purchase mainly to keep.

I'm coming up this summer on 5 years since starting my collection journey, and it wasn't until the 3 to 4 year period that you finally realize where you want to be and how to get there. KeCo's collection has just taken a huge value hit with this video. Also, the storage rental costs are sunk costs, and have helped you maintain more collection value so far, so you don't want those rental costs to have completely gone to waste, if you chuck the boxes then the value loss will be realised. All you need to do is put some of your general possessions that are in your house, into the storage unit, (a few clothes, some tools etc.), and then also take some of your boxes that are in your storage unit and put them in your house. That way you then won't be paying for storage just for boxes, you are paying for storage as you need additional space as you like owning extra 'stuff' in general. That way it then separates the direct link between the storage rental costs and the value gain for your collection as a result of you still having the boxes. You just need to reframe the situation so that you can keep on doing what you've been doing, that is all. 🙂

@@KeCoCollectsAnother thing that I like to do, is to keep part of my collection stored away in the boxes at all times. This has the benefit of reducing overall space for my collection of figures plus boxes as a whole; I get use from the boxes that I am keeping when they have figures inside, as well as allowing me an opportunity to rotate my display more and to keep things fresh. If I get a bit tired of looking at a figure, I can just box it up for a few months and bring a different one out and perhaps use different accessories than I used last time and so on and so forth.

I was one who asked u on instagram about buying from a “pop” store and u and Will stopped me. Thanks for watching out for us new collectors💪🏼

@@KeCoCollects Like you've said, collectors are collectors for the most part. Started in college in the 80s w/ mech pencils due to engineering degree. Started w/ pens AFTER graduation due to costs. Kinda same timeline for watches. Ironically, sold my early 70s to mid 80s comic collection & literally paid for my Soph - Jr. tuitions. Have a substantial vinyl collection of OGs to recent audiophile reissues, primarily jazz, that could pay for a used Ferrari easy. Collectors are collectors. ;)

I like the unscripted! Maybe do more of these where you riff on key points (KePoints). Personally I choose to throw my figures out and keep the boxes.

I totally understand your mind frame on this. Me however, I saved all my boxes because since my start of collecting back in 2008 ish. I have sold many figures just to buy other figures with that money. Now that I'm unable to really afford the features that I want anymore due to health reasons. I'm saving the boxes now so when inevitably I will have to sell some more figures they are with their original art box. Some people actually display their figures with the art box. And I think that's where it started with selling your figure with its original box. Fellow collectors alike seen it and heard it from everyone about having the original box and in mint condition. I'm not going to lie, I did the same thing. Fun Fact : KECO loaded up his U-Haul truck with the boxes. Then he drove a mile and a half down the road to another storage facility to bring them to their new home. A cheaper place 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I'm only kidding, but maybe? 🤔🤔🤔

I kept my boxes for two reasons: 1. I move around so it’s easy to pack them up 2. I have run into situations where I needed cash so I was able to use the boxes to ship. Like right now as I was just laid off at work. I sold 1/2 my collection. I will tell you no matter what a majority of the time I lose money when selling them or if popular I may break even after eBay 13.5% fee.

I started throwing away hot toy boxes recently. I kept them in my garage but space was running out. I even thought about selling my hot toy boxes but idk if i feel like doing that. (They do sell on ebay). People still buy figures without the box. I bought some used figures without the box and it didnt bother me that it had no box. I would try to save the boxes for statues but wouldnt pay storage for it. Also, toyswonderland scammed me out of $1500. It hurts, but i definitely learned my lesson.

Just stoping by to show some love from the sports memorabilia collectors of the hobby💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿 i keep all my starting lineup figures on card and hang them up on the wall easy simple. I keep all my Giants funkos in the box and put them on the wall in a vaulted vinyl display. I can’t believe that you paid for storage for empty boxes 😂😂😂😂😂😂

So true. I'm not interested in selling my figures but If I like a box I sometimes just take off the front image from the box and keep it in an art folder if I like the art. If you re-sell without the box you are only losing £20 to £50 anyway in my experience. If someone really wants it they will buy it. I've seen figures without boxes in better condition than figures sold with their boxes.

@KeCoCollects exactly. Just wrap the figure in bubble wrap and place in a smaller box lol. I got a medicom bm project tetsuo figure which was a grail to me for such a good price because it didn't have the box. I'm not going to display it in the box so who cares!

Thankfully, I own my home, and don't plan on going anywhere for a long time. If that time came, I'd carefully bubble wrap them and drop them in another box carefully

I get what you are saying Keco. If you pay to store absolutely chuck them. I keep mine but have room in my house. A fellow collector had a small place and his girlfriend made him throw them out. He went to sell a few months later. Had to sell for a lot less as all buyers wanted a box. I will not buy anything loose personally. I hear so many say I’m never selling. We all have to sell one day unless we pass them on. I have over 300 1/6 I fully intend to sell eventually. 🤷‍♂️

Great video dude. I enjoyed the more “raw” unscripted take. Also yeah big W on not paying for storing your boxes. 😂 It’s a legitimate thing though. As collectors we want to try to hold on to as much value for our figures as we can even if it’s only hypothetical in the end.

I've been on the fence for years regarding my boxes. You've convinced me to just do it. I think that I'll keep the art boxes and just break them down and get rid of everything else, so they don't take up that much space. I'll never sell my figures so why the heck have I've been saving the boxes?! The other reason I've waited so long is you need to do something with all the pieces still in the box that I'm not currently using. I'll probably use baggies and mark them which will be time consuming but what's a collector to do lol.

I think the issue with HK retailers is - they are very inconsistent ,so, IMO if one must use them, go through platforms such as eBay and A (YT censures the name when I comment it ) xpress ,where you have buyers protections and when they don't hold their end of the bargain ,for the time they have promised ,you can pretty easily deal with them through customer support . But for PO, I am starting to lean more towards EU retailers (thankfully someone told me one in one group)or the AU/NZ ,the US seem overpriced after import and shipping.

I am a new collector trying to learn from you and I didnt know that experts buy storage unit to retain the boxes and things. In additon, I have small collection of anime in my room. I always keep boxes in my closet because you know they made from real companies and the value.

Worth it not to have the stress of boxes and a storage unit (which I have as well) great video, we do lie to ourselves a lot about different things 😂 I remember when I switched back to 6 inch for a while to get the thrill of the hunt and told myself it would be wayyy cheaper (more bang for my buck) than Hot Toys and instead of however many Hot Toys a year I was getting like 100’s of 6 inch and spending more smh 🤦‍♂️

Just got the boba fett twin pack to see how Hot toys are I got it for 200 off so thought might as well. I got ARC Jesse coming next week and I am hoping for the EP 6 Vader. Since I have limited space for the bigger hot toy figures I ll only be able to get a few maybe 5/6 all together so I wont be getting many. They look amazing though.

Respect to this video. I use to shop with TW. I always got my figs especially when they first came out. What made me stop was about end of last year I PO'd Mark 3 2.0 and they started pushing the ship date back further and further. After that put in a claim with Paypal and got my doe back. Haven't use them since. I give spots chances but that last time...im good. Plenty of other spots to get figs from with good CS imo. I would say its your fault if you recommend a spot and say it worked for u and that person(s) experience was different. U didn't lie. YOUR experience was good. Not a guarantee others may have same experience. My disclaimer when asked...MY experience was good. You can try it and see if it works for you. Sooooooooo tru lol@u will be done after this fig.

Honestly if you have no plans on selling a figure yeah keep that box, I have mad respect and agree with your point of content creators getting a figure early like come on we’re all in this endeavor together getting priority because you have a channel or are a influencer has always put a bad taste in my mouth. Completely agree about the boxes. I have mine in the attic, but reality is...these arent investments anyway. They dont really retain value anymore outside certain exclusive...f the box. PS: "Don't overpay" too bad you didn't call the Bengals before they signed Joe Schiesty.

Yeah, I can see how it would make sense for someone who collects tons of Hot Toys to just throw out the boxes! It's not worth paying for storage. Sounds like a hassle for sure! I have a pretty small collection so the boxes are good to keep around in case I move or decide to sell a figure.

Hey brother! 👆🏼thank you for another entertaining video. Definitely have told myself one or two of lies you mentioned in this video. Main one being that this is an investment. None of the figures I have are going for retail, it’s helped me realize I have to be more picky with what I add to my collection.

You made me think about this a bit more man 😂 my wife is always telling me to do something with 40 boxes, and I might just trash them, but not all. I will definitely keep the dx box for my Joker and a few others cause a few boxes are pretty damn sweet . I'm never gonna sell them, I collect for me . But I have 3 on the way and 7 more preordered 😂 so... I guess it's time to say bye to most of them. I did grab some sweet shelfs from work they were trashin . They are almost what you built behind you, just with no glass. But for now to have some extra space I'm happy with them. I can always get the glass cut and add it later. But my detolfs are filled, they are on the top of the cases and everywhere else 😂. But I think I'll just get a little box for all the accessories. One last thing, if you could help me out a bit, I'd appreciate it. Do you know any decent store or ever see selling Gordon swat version or the regular version, or demon batman. Blake and morbius, plz let me know. I don't wanna order from tw. They took 700 bucks from me 3 Years ago and never sent me it. I will never order from them again. Great vid, man. Any plans on quitting the hobby? lol Thinking about quitting this year after all PO's arrive. Space is starting to run out and I keep all of the boxes. Thinking on purging some of my boxes but which one should I purge? Like you said, you definitely want to keep some of them which you consider your grail.
