My vet told me 25 years ago when I had to put my first rescue Rottweiler to sleep. It's the last loving thing you can do is to not let them suffer. I know you say it's the last act of kindness. But people don't understand if they're not in the rescue business how it is to be in that situation. So thank you all for everything you do please know it does not go unnoticed. ❤️❤️❤️

My mom told me that when I had to make a choice for my cat, he was 14 years old and was losing weight as well had stopped eating and drinking. My family told that I did an amazing job caring for Snare. Bringing him back from a hurt and scared young cat to him living the life of being a cuddle bug. Keep in mind 14 years old is really old for a cat. Especially one who is an indoor outdoor cat. Even though he was my best friend as well as being my fur baby I knew he was suffering and knew that his time had came to say goodbye. But I know that's he's ok now and is back with his sister who passed away years before, passed away from drinking something deadly for cats, and his step-brother Zephyr, my older sister's cat.

Not that I disagree with you...but we don't know the situation of the previous owner. Should they have done something different - absolutely! But hopefully, with the work that people like Horse Shelter Heroes are doing, people who don't know what to do with horses they no longer want / handle, those same people will realize that there are options out there to re-home horses to reputable rescues.

imo I feel that the auctions should not allow these horses to be sold, Period...Or they should be fined when they bring them in. No we never know the situation the owners are in and why they don’t do what they should when they can see that they can no longer provide for the horse..or animals that they own.

@@ellimae1548 It's called supply and demand - I don't like it, but it exists. Auctions just make it easier for purchasers - be it Amish, kill buyer, or rescues to purchase, If they didn't exist, the buyers would just go elsewhere and find some other way to purchase. Nice to see the racing industry is at least admitting they have an issue - it means education is working. Let's hope more individuals, get people like Horse Rescue Hero's message. Every little bit helps...

@@Loralie571 it still dose make it right. Look at the Texas Humane Society...People are prosecuted for not taking care of their animals, same thing should happen at auctions. Supply and Demand? What can you get from a horse that can barley stand? A can of dog food?

  • @purplechickon

@@Loralie571 True, you never know what someone is going through. Or what the whole story is. But to me there's no excuse for starving an animal to death. Especially when there are options like rescue groups that could help. It's just plain neglect. And then leaving them at an auction is just mean.

Nice episode. It's awful to see the young horses have to be put down. I could tell how upset Doc was when he talked about the horses bodies actually eating their organs and the thought of it is very upsetting. When I was 13 years old I brought a 6 month old filly back up after the vet told me there was not a good chance that she could make it but she was a fighter and in spite of all odds, she survived and was the best horse that I could imagine. In 2009 I rescued 2 starving Mustangs that could barely walk. Both of them survived. They were so thin that you could see where the ribs connected to the bone and their front legs had very little space between them. They took 6 months to start looking like horses instead of skeletons, then they really took off and were beautiful. It's so rewarding when you do win the battle. God bless you for what you do.

Such a sad situation for Carter. I was really hoping as I’m sure you all were that he would make it. I have to say I have a great deal of admiration for your vet “Doc”. I can tell he is not only a wonderful vet but a very kind hearted human being. I grew up with horses and our veterinarian was a friend of our family and we knew him for 50 years and he continued to practice veterinary medicine until he was 82 years old! I think Doc is going to be one of those type of vets that he will just work as long as he possibly can! You can tell that he loves what he does and he has so much compassion for the animals that he treats. I really admire that about him very much. I love that he teaches all of you as he’s treating and diagnosing each horse. God Bless him and God Bless all of you at Horse Plus! ❤️🐴

What i can do however is to spread the word about the "big lick" and how this industry torture those beautiful animals. With knowledge comes action. Youth is where to start, educate, have meet ups, inform in schools and they will for sure spread the word and pass it forward. Together we can make changes, no matter where you live. These videos do so much more than bring awareness… they give me motivation. I want horses so bad. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved horses more than anything and now that I’ve got kids of my own, they, especially my daughter, wants horses so bad. We live in the city in California and we hate it. Feels like a dead end every single day but I watch these videos and it gives me hope that some day we will be able to get out of here. Something to look forward to. Some day we with hard work we can move to a small piece of heaven and come adopt a horse who needs us as much as we’ve wanted them. I want to watch my kids bond with a horse that we’ve prayed for for so long.. thank you for all that you do for these animals.. we definitely as humans don’t deserve something so magical..

There is a string on those feed bags. If you snip it on the proper side, you can simply pull the string and the feed bag will pop open all the way across. I fought those bags for years, then someone showed me how to open the bags easily. The trick is is cutting the right side of the string. You may have to experiment the first time or two to figure out which side is which. But I assure you, it is worth the effort in the long run. Kudos to you guys for helping these beautiful horses.

@@elisebrown3163 Sorry about that. I've never dealt with feed bags that didn't have a string. Then again, It has been years since I've owned horses, so perhaps these are new bags? Either way, my intent was to be helpful.

Yup! If you're familiar w/ embroidery (don't laugh😂), it looks like the lazy daisy stitch. You pull the end of the string that starts at the open end of the petals. That's how I always remember it...😉😂

Charge the abuser with animal murder. There must be a very specific place in hell for them. It made me physically ill to see that poor horse. I'm still crying for him, for them all. I just can't comprehend how much evil it takes to do that. God Bless all the animal rescuers. A Colorado Mountain Grandma

I have a dream. It features Carter, the stunning Palomino, galloping through a meadow of wildflowers. He is full of joy as he no longer suffers with pain, sadness, or hunger. As he glances at the other healthy horses who follow him, he knows all is well. He will live happy and free. He will never know hunger or pain again, only love and gentle hands Thank you to all of those who saved him and the others.

Hi again ...and so the story goes. A beautiful 3 yr old that was so neglected and or abused at that young age. His body had passed ability to come back but in spite of that Doc and you all tried everything you could. I've dealt with many horse/LG animal vets along the way but I was especially moved by Doc's choice to try everything to give him the best shot. But then how he showed his heart when he really didnt want/ have to let him go. He's a good guy and the right one for his job! You folks are so fortunate to have him there with you! A shame and such a waste of that youngster which sadly such things won't change. If some vile humans will do the same to children they wouldn't hesitate to treat animals that way. ...and so the story sadly goes... Keep on doing your loving and compassionate work. Remember always that might be the only love and care they've ever known. Tawnee your story represents exactly who you were born to be and the life's work you are meant to do. Your passion goes to the bone through and through. You're a special one gal ! Many thanks as always.

So sad. Such a simple thing to give is food and water. I Foster for my local shelter . I do mostly bottle babies and young kittens … the same thing applies .. people let them get to the point that by the time we get them it’s so hard to bring them back… and sometimes we can’t no matter how hard we try .
