Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

After rescuing 57 precious lives, Tawnee is kicked while doing intake on one of those horses! It's a nasty kick that is going to leave its mark for a very long time. But that's not all, there's volunteers, adoption, and a whole lot more in this episode of Horse Shelter Heroes.

I remember when I worked at a draft stable. I was amazed at how well-trained the drafts were. They had people walking around behind them, adjusting harnesses, long-lining them to the cart, and making sure they were attached without any worries about being kicked. The owner explained to me ninety-five percent of the carriage horse training is with their rear end and had never experienced a kick with the carriage horses. It's absolutely heartbreaking that a horse that well-trained like that kicked. Someone really destroyed this horse.

With all the back pain in the horses it breaks my heart ! I suffer with back pain every day , it's from an injury. To help horses stay back pain free don't ride them until their 7 . You can drive , pony , do all the ground work but stay off the back . The withers are the last to finish growing. Rescue on

For Tawnee: Something that makes bruises heal much faster is Arnica Montana. You can get lotions with it and there are little homeopathic quick-dissolve tablets …the sooner you take it after an injury, the better it works. And my doctor had me taking homeopathic medicine every 10-15 minutes for up to two hours for acute issues. …then less frequently after that….also, ice it!

I was hoping to see somebody adopt Goldie. She's doing so well and seems to be a really intelligent horse. She was like, "You don't need to load me, I'll just load myself thank you very much. Oh, you other two have to hop to get up there. " As for getting kicked, I know it's an occupational hazard with what you all do, but OW! I bet you didn't even see the leg move. I'm guessing ice and ibuprophen will be the order of the day for a day or two. It's tomorrow you'll probably really feel it. I hope the bruise heals up quickly. You made a great point about not retaliating. He did that because he was either scared or hurting. I volunteered at a ferret rescue for a number of years and yes, I got bitten a few times and it was always out of fear and because I wasn't holding them in a way where they couldn't turn their head and get me. It hurt but freaking out about it wasn't going to help. The first order of business was to get them to loosen their jaws, usually just putting their nose under a running faucet briefly would do the trick. After that, I'd make sure I had better control of where they could turn their heads and would just sit quietly holding them for a while because putting them back in their cage immediately would just train them that biting was how to signal they wanted to be put down. Usually within a few weeks, they were interacting happily and giving licks rather than trying to bite.

Tawnee is a strong woman, both emotionally & physically. She'll heal. I don't mean to sound flippant but I know working w/horses it's a chance we take. OMG Tawnee! How awful! You need to see a doctor even if you think it will be ok. My best friend nearly died from a heart attack in his early forties, because of a bad bruise that caused a clot that broke loose. That injury is SO near to your femoral artery! It's a huge artery in your leg that often kills people when severed, if they aren't close enough to help. It can also do a very long slow bleed, where the danger is blood clots. I don't know if you will see it below, but viewers are very worried that you could form a clot that then dislodges and causes a heart attack or stroke. You might need blood thinners now, to prevent those things. PLEASE GO TO A DOCTOR AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE PREVIOUS BAD INJURY TOO ! ! ! WE DESPERATELY NEED YOU TO BE THERE, for the horses, for us, and for your family. The world needs you ! ! ! Bravery is fine. We know you're very strong. But don't take it to the extreme! You need to be cautious too! We all love you so much! PLEASE GO TO A DOCTOR ! ! ! ❤❤❤ Edit: Now I've seen the end, and I know Tawnee did see a doctor, but I've decided to leave my original message for Tawnee, or anyone else who gets kicked. I got kicked by a Shetland Pony, and that was bad enough! But if Tawnee doesn't take it easy enough it could still be a problem, and with a bruise that huge, that bad, and that deep, clots are still a possibility. She didn't say if the Dr gave her any meds or wanted a follow up appointment. I sure hope they did both. This is not something to take lightly, and I don't have a lot of confidence in an American walk in clinic. I think she needs at least a week and 1/2 of near bed rest, staying home and having people take care of her. But I know she will never do that, and went back at work after a day or 2. Silly girl ! ❤🐴🐎🐴❤

So happy that you saved so many horses without even going into the auction. Felt for you Tawnee getting kicked, I've been kicked a few times and it really hurts. So a little tip from me is when doing anything within reach of their hindlegs and it includes cow kicking ( when the horse kicks forward that's what we call it in the UK ) and to keep you safe, get someone to hold a front leg up, that will prevent the horse from kicking you or anyone else. Stay safe. 👍

Handy hint for moving mats. C-clamps make great handles for carrying! I am 67 years old and it helps me a lot. Ladies do not usually have as much arm muscles. ❤

wow that's some bruise hope your better soon You do wonderful work with the horses. I feel your pain I have had one like that they can be dangerous animals and especially in pain I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you I think he must have been in pain and frightened. It's so lovely to see them go to loving homes if only to be safe to live the rest of their lives out in a peaceful and protected environment.💕💕

AND ANOTHER THING! I type like this because I love y’all. I’ve seen some very sloppy XRay technique lately: e.g. YOU holding plate up to horse’s withers and having that invisible deadly beam shooting RIGHT at your head/face!!! A short refresher on X RAY SAFETY for everyone would be a really good idea. BEFORE brain zap or retina damage happens!!! PLEASE!!!

If they had actual vet techs there anymore, maybe they would have people who know about the danger of xrays.

I think it's so stupid that they kicked you out of an auction! You'd think the 'kill buyers' would be the one's being kicked out! I hope and pray that your poor leg gets better very soon! That looks so painful! And I hope that the auction place lets you back in!

Graysons scarring looks like that of over worked carriage horses. The collared bridle with a metal bar to the bit. I saw that damage far too often on carriage horses used for tourist rides.

First aid recommendation: for deep bruises treat them like a cut that is bleeding. That is apply direct pressure with the flat of your hand. After all, a bruise is. Just bleeding under the skin (blood cannot get out.). Hence stop as much bleeding as you can to keep the bruise smaller and therefor not as painful-Then if you can tolerate it wrap the entire area from joint below to joint above with several ace bandages. Ice cold penetrates the tissue only about a centimeter so will not help when applied over a wrap.

Tawnee - can I recommend for you or anyone, when you have bruising, even minor bruising there is a plant called Arnica that is incredibly good at promoting healing and speeds up the bruising process. My nana is 95 and has sworn by it forever. She had a bad car accident 2 years ago (yep she was still driving at 93 and amazing too), someone ran a red light and hit her. The airbags went off and broke her nose and fractured her cheek. She had 2 massive black eyes which did train down her face as bad black eyes do but as soon as she was out of hospital she started arnica - orally and also using a cream. Within 2 weeks she just had a yellow tinge. Her cheek and nose were still broken but the bruising was almost gone. Even the doctors asked her what she used.

Jeez, Tawnee I sure hope you’re treating that big ol’ honkin’ bruise with ice and heat as well as the salt. That definitely looks heckin’ painful and I hope you feel better soon. Also make sure to take something for the pain. I’d recommend either Advil or Tylenol if possible.

I can't say I haven't been hurt with working with horses I have been hurt I broke my left arm but it didn't stop me being near horses I have been kicked but not like yours I was lucky to get out of the way I didn't notice my horse had a little cut on his leg my dad spotted it and he treated it I was kicking myself as I just got back from a ride where there was dirt luckily nothing got into the cut. Stay strong and keep the good work up I love watching your videos

It didn't hurt as bad is because you were close and he more or less pushed you away than that other time when you were in good kicking distance (further away). I am 62 yrs. old been around horses most of my life and I stay close to their hindquarters so that they push you away rather than when you are further away and you get the end of the kick and gets hurt. I have never gotten kicked and my sister only has gotten kicked twice and neither time has gotten hurt. So please stay close to the horse so you don't get hurt.😢❤❤❤😂

Ok so I'm not usually one to say keep a horse a stud unless there are the intentions of breeding him at some point but given Galahad's age and the fact that he is one of the most well behaved studs that I've ever seen id say finding him a good home shouldn't be that hard i mean if i were a bit closer I'd take him in a heartbeat!! So praying that he finds the right home that suits his needs to be a very much loved retired pasture pet

Good morning Tawnee. You are one tough lady handling that kick. Broke my tibia last spring. That part straight down the front is held together with surgical steel. If you are still hurting have a rub on pain reliever that worked for me. Veritas Farms Full Spectrum Hemp Oil salve. 400 mg strength. Put a pea size (you may need more by the large size of your injury) Apply to skin as needed. It really helped the pain. Wash hands after use. Feel for you. Hope it helps you too. It is so natural, not a vet, but why wouldn’t it possibly help a poor horse. I wasn’t stingy with it. I loaded up with it thick and massaged it in. Think he bought it in a health food store. Rest up this weekend my dear. 🙋🏼‍♀️ for now. ❤️🐴

He’s probably a very good boy, he was also probably scared he was going to be hurt again, Tawnee is amazing, and handled this in just the right way.. I know from experience, rescue horses are most often traumatized and not really themselves when they come to safety, so these things happen, it’s not a fault of anyone, it was an accident.
