As sad as it is to rescue a horse and then have to put to sleep, I always think it nice that you can show them kindness and love before doing that last act of kindness and setting them free.

I protested the Big Lick classes at horse shows on the Illinois/Wisconsin border back in the 80s & 90s. How is this abomination STILL legal anywhere? Disgusting. Thank you for poking the bear and reminding these sociopaths that there are people watching them abuse their horses. Also, thank you for giving us the update on Biscuit/Miles. I'm so happy he went home with Sarah. I think it was pretty much a done deal the second he came out of that bag, hahaha.

I always knew tennessee walkers were a gaited breed & knew they do some weird, less than "comfortable" things to get them to move in such an "exaggerated way," but omg... I had NO IDEA it was something so extreme & so awful & barbaric! If you're going to that extreme to make an animal move like that, something tells me you're probably doing something YOU SHOULDN'T BE!!! I'll repeat- "HOW IS THIS LEGAL"!? ugh. Disgusting.

I just came across your channel and the wonderful work you all do...thank you. I could almost feel the sense of relief, joy and kindling of hope when these sensitive animals first disembark from the truck to your property...it was lovely to see. Also totally agree with your mature, ethical and pragmatic approach to euthanisia for the animals which cannot be saved. It would be a further cruelty to prolong their suffering and again thank you for giving them the gift of peace and comfort at the end, this is one of the nicest, most hopeful and reaffirming actions that I have seen of late, thank you. I could see how exhausted you all were after intake of saved horses, you work so hard and deserve all the support you need. It is terrible that many people have the excess you need to perform good work yet do not spend it wisely for good purpose. I cannot give much but will do what I can. Best wishes to you all, I cannot say thank you enough.

To watch the big kick horses actually makes me nauseous! I had horses for 30 yrs and NEVER liked what "those" Tennessee Walker PEOPLE do to the breed. The natural movement is very beautiful and the natural way of moving is so smooth and wonderful to watch! The breeders and trainers need to be embarrassed by what they do! I would take an all natural beautiful Tennessee Walker to the Rodeo circuit and do a professional showing/ exhibition! Then show a rescued horse that shows the results of the "big lick" training! To teach the public is where the power i!!

I want to know where is the big money that keeps this from being outlawed? What they do to those horses is sadistic barbaric abuse there is nothing beautiful or elegant about it.They are just a sorry lot.

If seeing these videos of the horrible abuses and fates of these kill pen horses breaks your heart, I beg you to consider other animals who experience these horrors, also. Cows, goats, pigs, sheep and their babies go through this, too. Find out where your animal products come from if you choose to eat them. Find the most humane source (perhaps a small, local farm or hunting for your meat). P.s. I recently bought a horse rescued from a kill pen. She is doing amazing, and is a very great mare in every way!

I don't understand how people do this to any animal let alone a sweet innocent horse. I loved horses from the age of 5 years old my mother could not get me on a fake riding horse until she got me on a friends mustang cross mare. I don't know why people don't take proper care of there animals yes if you have an animal it takes money and love but if you can't OR WON'T spend the money it takes to take care of an animal then you should not have that animal.

Do you guys know about the "CLOUD" therapeutic boots they make for horses prone to foundering or that are in the latter stages of laminitis? Maybe they could be something you guys a could put on your Amazon "Wish List"? Cuz I know they ARE extremely expensive- I think they were like, $250+ each boot & we had a pair for my old man who struggled with foot problems his whole life & started to founder in his mid twenties as well... They were like... Well, kind of like a "high heels slipper"?? Lol at a lack for better words... They just slip on & velcro all around their foot- and they help relieve some of the weight off of the coffin bone while keeping the hoof in alignment & try to keep the horse sound & comfortable while they're having painful laminitis symptoms... I dunno if they're a product you guys would or could use, but they really seemed to make my old boy a lot more comfortable in the last year or two I had him before we finally had to put him down for numerous reasons- one of which just simply being that he was a 16.2h appy/tb gelding who I had competed in 3 day Eventing & dressage for almost 15yrs & he was coming up on 28 long years, and it was just his time for that decision to be made & for Dallt to join the others in that happy horse pasture in the sky... Too bad those boots for used SO WELL when we had them (& boy did they SMELL! PHOOOEEY!) We had to just throw them away when he was put down- I had hoped I could donate them to a horse rescue or something... But they were just too "well used," besides the SMELL lol. Wonderful product though!! I really recommend them to anyone dealing with horses with founder/laminitis issues, even though they are pricey- they're a wonderful "assistant" product to use alongside good farrier care!

while I‘m not saying that Europe doesn‘t also have some animal welfare problems (very much dependent on the country you‘re in, Switzerland for example has the toughest protection laws in the world, Romania continually has problems) I don‘t think any country allows whatever they are doing to those poor walking horses ... I just can‘t believe there are competitions or shows centered around abuse. I know some competition riders might have some doubtfull training methods, but around here they would try everything to hide those and animals are routinely vet checked for signs of abuse or doping on any event ...

There is no good reason big lick or horse racing should legal. Like the only reason that isn't a flat out lie (ie. we don't drug them, we don't sore them) as to why they shouldn't be illegal is that "It shows horse's beauty" Clearly they've never seen horses running in a pasture because that is the most beautiful thing on the planet.

I found a TikTok account of a big lick supporter. They say that they don't sore their horses and thorough vet checks occur. Does this still make it abuse? Just trying to learn! 😊

When I was looking into it because I was also trying understand, there were the accusations of abuse and then the defenders saying that those things don't happen anymore. (Anymore?) I know Tawney has shown walkers that Horse Plus has rescued with the scars and sores on their ankles and the strangely shaped and angled hooves. The vets at the shows can't be everywhere and there are issues with drugging to hide pain and bribery. The big lick is very popular and I think the people involved don't want outside "do gooders" messing with their traditions. They are very defensive and resistant about changes. All I know is when I watch films of horses doing the Big Lick, it looks unnatural and painful. That hyper extension of the knees and those big clompy blocks on their feet must surely wear on a horse's legs and tendons and joints. I think about how much it hurts if I step wrong and hyper flex my knee. I can't imagine being forced to do that round and round a ring. I also had heard that to get the waterfall affect of a Big Lick's tail they sometimes break it and bind it to heal fused. I really don't know about that one but it seems to fit with the other things people are willing to do to those poor horses. I've decided that for myself there were too many questions about abuse and the the Big Lick was terribly unnatural and painful for the horses. I decided I would not support groups that promoted or allowed the Big Lick. I think there are enough questions to err on the side of caution.

There are very wealthy people involved and wealthy politicans and that means bad things continue when they shouldn’t. And there is alot of money made on these poor big lock horses….so that means there’s an incredible incentive to keep doing it….so the big lick supporters lie and bribe people, vets included. They are constantly looking for ways to get around the rules. One of the big lock shows that was on this channel , there was a lot of on duty law enforcement there. ( not off duty cops making extra money ) The local sheriffs and chief of police are either bribed or doing “favors” for the politicans. And the politicans do “favors” formthe law enforcement …… Why should a horse show have so many police there, if everything is aboveboard and legal, no cruelty? I’m a native Tennessean ( my family has lived there for a very long time) and it’s common knowledge about the corruption around the Tennessee Walking Horse Big Lick soaring process. ….and the corruption of some of the law enforcement in areas surrounding these shows…..the shame is, these horses have a natural gaite that is just amazingly smooth….the big lick is a travesty, an un natural exaggeration of the natural gaite………this gait is different than all other horses gaites…it’s beautiful to see and beautiful to ride a Naturally shod Tennessee Walking Horse .

Tawny addressed the tails in a video. She said the tendon is cut and extensions are often added to create that waterfall look

You should take the ones you rescue as examples of their cruelty… shove it in their faces. Or at least photos and ids of those injuries and the ones who have had to be put down as a result of” Big Lick” practices… pictures don’t lie… they couldn’t despute it if there is evidence…
