Many of those poor horses were in such had shape. Cartered all over the Country. A complete horror. Immagine them having to otherwise, try and live through the long trip to Mexico in that state! Who knows if they even get anything to drink. Treated like a piece of s... only to be brutaly butcherd at the end of all that misery, pain and agony! I think many people are too quick to judge qualified diagnosen. I would say its a dam hard job mentally, having to see these atrocities and know many are condemed to the last act of kindness because people just dont care how they have been starved, malltreated, who knows what whey have been condemed to or why! These animals are worth more than that - God bless all the rescueres and the valuable work they have to take over from irresponsible stingy pennypinchers! Discusting!!! Huge aknowledgement and blessings to all the wonderful rescuers, that put all of these poor creatures first 🙏💕

@@lyndakowalke8858 beautifully stated, THANK YOU.. you did bring up one thing that may not be considered by the pipeliners. Whoever eats the terrorized animals, eats all the pain and heartache, is a part of the animal, and it becomes a part of the 'diners'. It is truly angelic that the process is stopped, the rescued animals whether adopted out, or lovingly put down, have been saved from a horror beyond words. Horses are intelligent creatures. They can tell when they are being rescued and cared for. They also know if they are going to be abused. From videos I have seen of killer buyers they are not gentle with horses they don't speak softly to them. So the horses know these humans are not nice people.

@@cherylmillard2067 Sadly some states make euthanizing a Horse cost more than they are financially able to spend. Many, many Years ago My Husband and I went to a local Auction in Belleville Michigan. They had a lovely Paint Gelding there which took a fancy to my Husband, and since we were there in hopes of finding a pleasure horse for him, we decided to bid on him and a whole. $50 later we welcomed him in our family. We live in the city, so we had to get the OK from the farm we boarded my Show pinto at, and they set up a quarantine stall and we loaded him in with no issues at all. Mind you he was lame on his hind leg but not so bad that we thought any major issue. On arrival the Vet was waiting and except for his lame hind leg he was in good health and only 7 years old by his teeth. After he was through quarantine his lameness was looked at with more thorough examination. It turned out he had three fractures in his hip and had been given a nerve blocker and would never be sound for riding. We tried for 10 months to find someone to take him as a pasture pet but no luck. He fell in the pasture turnout and did major damage to his good hip. He was in pain yet still gave us kisses. The cost to euthanize him was almost $7,000. A cost me and my Husband simply could not do. The Farm owner offered to take him back to the original seller and that was our only option for him. What happened to him after returned I hate to think about, and it still haunts me at times when viewing HPHS videos. Was I a bad owner because I didn't have the funds to put him down? there was no place that would help us and no Vet willing to cut us a break on cost. In Michigan you have to have a proper Burial site for the euthanized Animal, it has to be 7 feet deep which required hiring a Backhoe driver to dig the hole. The burial site had to be at minimum 200 feet from any dwelling or occupied building. That would have added and additional $2,000 to the cost of the Euthanasia. What is needed is more places for lower income owners to take their Horse to at a more affordable cost.

The most the USDA ever does is fine people if they can even get to them because previously there were only a couple for the whole United States. Livestock are allowed to basically be treated like crap because they're allowed to be used to be eaten. You can pretty much do whatever you want with livestock so sadly

Laws.. or well lack their of. Like the auction they were banned from then bought horses for £500 a piece outside of, is in a country you can sell a horse in basically any condition. Dead, in foal, incredibly sick, etc.. you'd basically be wasting your time going to such auctions unless your aim is to take near dead animals unfortunately. It's why if someone wants to get a horse they'd potentially be able to ride, drive, etc.. via an auction, you'd go to one that happens less frequently and local or national laws are better. Otherwise, sickness or death will be everywhere in the building.

And when we hear the word ‘rescue’ it doesn’t mean bring a pony/horse back to the shelter and it’s good to go. It literally means it is rescued from a horrible road trip to a SLAUGHTER yard. From multiple auctions and trailer trips. From years of neglect by their owners. Before you criticize any of these people…go watch the online videos of what happens when they actually get to their destination…besides the trip down in a semi trailer packed with frantic or lame, sick, blind, young, old, stallions, minis…and being stuffed with drugs to fatten them up…no food or water…it really is the last act of kindness. It’s showing some loving attention and compassion and easing their permanent pain and misery.

A neighbor's riding horse had twins ( I know it's very rare). Mama would feed the one but the littler one she had no time for. The neighbor was going to shoot it until 12yr old girl threw raging fit on his back porch. I asked if he give me time to call home and get permission to care for that tiny one. Grandpa talked to him. If I could carry her home I could keep her. Her name was Sugar Baby and she was a handful but she was mine. She lived 11 years until some fool didn't bring her to the barn in thunder storm. She was terrified of thunder and lightning. Thank you again HPHS for all you do.

The Amsh and communities like that view horses and other animals in the same way we view cars and tractors. If it stops working and is beyond repair we get rid of it and buy a new car or tractor. They don't do the emotional connection to animals. They simply see them differently. It's never my part to judge them for their religion and their views. It simply is what it is. I actually got a cart horse from them who was only twelve but had been ridden/carted around so much she became lame and had laminitis at only 12 yrs old. This is something i have dealt with before and she was a Morgan pony cross - still out in the field with sheep right now (no one believes us that she gets along with so many other farm animals). It was fall just before winter and I knew it would take at least 6 mo of controlled feeding to regrow healthy hooves that weren't problematic with a farrier I adored we had at that time and I wouldn't be putting much into training or riding her for the winter. It was a risky investment, but she is a great kids horse and like most ponies you simply need to watch her feed. The Amish weren't going to put 6 mo+ of feed into an animal they got no use out of. She was $350. They considered her to basically be "broken" like a car whose wheels were deflated.

They even used to breed some very high quality dogs because they actually worked these dogs and needed them to herd sheep and protect the home and livestock and now many use the Amish name but it's like a puppy mill. They figured out they could get money doing all of these things and for some it fed their greed and the quality of things went down the crapper. I second guess when I see "Amish made" because I would need to know the Amish man who built it or who raised the animal before I bought it. You all did such an amazing job! To see Dr. Nancy at the auction was amazing! This one really looked rough. To see these horses that would have needed help a long time ago is so hard! And I won’t start on the slaughter truck. I was live when you got the horse from the slaughter truck. What an incredibly lucky horse! To see this Belgians have to leave this world together after a hard working life… And when Dr. Nancy cried over the sweet mini mare I bawled right along with her. I am so grateful for all you do! If you wouldn’t be there they wouldn’t get the help and a chance. Or even the last act of kindness if necessary.

My reply is the same as donna, sof cause it is the government that is the reall problem. They like all govenments --wait till things get right out of control, and then these beatiful animals pay the price of out right cruelty. We have the same thing happening in Australia. The people dont have a say in the matter. If the governments world wide, in the case of all wild animals, PUT THEIR HEARTS @consciounces into caring for land and animals We wouldnt have such cruelty going on right now. I think two legged animal deserve rge blame today. 👍

I find it hard to understand people that criticise rescuers who are doing everything they can to do right by these animals, when the people that mistreated and neglected them are mysteriously forgotten. They Don't believe in modern medicine/things. They don't even believe their own Bible which tells to use, BUT care for the animals. They are hard on the women. They are nothing more than brood mares. The Bible tells them to love cherish protect them. Husband's and wives are told to obey and respect each other. All the men do is bully all women. Yet they say they live Biblical lives. Their visual cruelty to animals says otherwise. PS some do care for animals, but they appear to be in the minority.

As heartbreaking as it is to see, I’m so grateful you showed the slaughter truck footage. It makes it easier to remember why you’re there and why we need to donate what we can. It also shows exactly why y’all make the hard, heartbreaking choices you have to make. For those horses that are so far gone the most compassionate thing to do is the last act of kindness, riding back to the farm is a rough, scary and stressful ride after who knows how many other rides they’ve been through. Even though riding to your rescue doesn’t compare to the nightmare of going to Mexico or Canada on a slaughter bound truck. The ones y’all have to euthanize will NEVER make it all the way to slaughter. The horrible, ugly truth is at some point they’ll go down from simple dehydration, if not from their age and condition. That means, at best, quickly getting trampled to death, at worst, being stepped on as they slowly die. That doesn’t even take into consideration what injuries they will suffer before going down. Thank you for the reminder. Y’all ARE doing great things and blessing even those horses that have to have the last act of kindness at that auction. I wholehearted believe there’s a special ring of Hell reserved for people who abuse the weak, no matter what species they take advantage of. We’ve been given the responsibility of being good stewards of the weaker and God has proven He will not be mocked.
