The Amish should be ashamed of how they abuse animals and breed dogs for sale in this world of overpopulated strays. I used tadmire the Amish until I found out how they treat animals.

I think it's very unfair to just label that as an Amish thing because as you see it's a ton of people that do that not just Amish. And a ton of people do that to dogs and other animals as well and then just drop them off at the shelter or give them away or drop them outside. Unfortunately it's America that does that to most animals not just Amish

not just horses, they breed dogs up here in Canada. The kind of places that have auctions for animals they don't want no matter what the shape they're in and someone will buy them. just as bad as the horses rescued here. Selling pets in pet stores is illegal here now so they use Facebook and such places. it's bad all over for animals and it's so nice to see HPHS is doing so much to help where they can. Farm animals really get it bad. Keep up the good work guys. Each animal saved is a blessing to them and to you.

Hi horse plus. The standardbred with multiple brands that you got from the buy out program in this video was originally from NZ. I’m pretty sure his racing name was Sun Watch. If he has a star and a white scar markings on his near front knee to his fetlock then that’s definitely him. Let me know if you want more of his racing information and I’d be more than happy to send you though screenshots 😊

❤ I have an idea for your intake area. Get one of the big shop/stadium heaters and hang it up in a spot that will blow heat down on you guys while you work. My dad had one that run on used motor oil and it kept the shop toasty warm during the winter even with all the bay doors open. It would at least keep you warm until you get a climate controlled intake barn! ❤

The man that brought these horses so conveniently in the dark of night, knew exactly the condition of these horses! Shame on him. Happy that you'll be able to put the horse with the broken, infected hip won't have to suffer but a few more hours. Same with the other two. Cory and Kimberly are sure great with the horses. Good episode.

Great idea, shame the people willing to give them a chance for less than taking them to slaughter. How do you know he wasn't taking his time to minimize their pain knowing the condition? Nothing said implies he is responsible for their current condition. All we know is he transported them to a rescue... for less than slaughter price.

Have yall considered perhaps doing a horse trade program? I’ve been thinking about this idea a lot and thought I’d share. Many people buy horses that aren’t suitable for their experience level. If you had a trade program, they could bring you the horse they have for evaluation of the horse AND their skill level and then get some sort of ‘credit’ towards the adoption of a more suitable horse IF they meet your criteria. It would remove horses from the pipeline as well as allow the horse and rider an opportunity to be matched more appropriately😊💛

  • @thekoalafornian

    @thekoalafornian

    6 ай бұрын

I forgot to add-if they aren’t suitable to adopt per your criteria, instead of a credit towards adoption; you would then be able to offer to buy the horse on the spot for the $200 you’re offering now or similar ☺️

I love this idea. Maybe it would also help keep senior horses out of the slaughter yard too. If people know they can turn in their animals for help and trade they are more apt to care for the horses and bring them to you before they hit the slaughter yard. Maybe require a contract with the new person and an education on the horse and how to care for it properly. Also for more help, maybe offer a program where people who want a horse can voluntewr their time to earn a horse when they are ready. It mifht be a way to get help on the farm, and teach people how to care for them properly and give them a resource to call or come to when they have an issue. I assume most people just dont know where to go. This type of involvement would benifit everyone, alot of people have more time then money, some people want to just help, and some people might even be willing to earn a horse for their farms where they can be tauggt and volunteer to learn to handle them medically and have a communication with you to keep them helthy. I feel like this would be helpful because the more people involved with horse property might be a very helpful thing as more and more horses come. Maybe senior horses can retire in a farmers field for trade as well. If they have care for the horses they may not mind lending their fields to more then their own. Maybe they could trade the medical care for their horses for the fields and space or stables for retired horses??

I would too if I could afford a horse & someone to properly care for my dream pasture ornaments. Maybe someday I'll win the lottery & can adopt very elderly, disabled & retired horses. In the mean time I'll just keep doing my best to build my emergency vet fund/savings account. Minus enough to buy a couch I'll probably have to cover to keep my cats from scratching. Usually they just scratch cardboard though. I think they like creating a mess in my living room from cardboard scraps. Better than the other options though.

Your buy out program is fantastic! I’ve been donating when I can. I wish I could commit to monthly donations, but, being on a fixed income, sometimes things come up that leaves me short of funds. On a bright note I did rescue a beautiful Gypsy Vanner Stallion at a local auction, last week. His feet are in horrible shape and look to have been neglected for quite sometime. He was so caked with dirt the day he got to the auction that when they went to do his Coggins, they couldn’t get the needle to penetrate through the dirt. They had to bathe him in order to get his Coggins done. I am keeping him groomed and he is gorgeous!

It was a good idea though so she wouldn't be alone. This is something you have to learn unfortunately the hard way like this but it will forever stay in your mind going forward so it doesn't happen again.

It was very sad. But in their world, a horse with Fiesta’s injuries attracts predators that endanger everyone else. It’s not uncommon for horses to drive an injured or sick herd member out, but it sure is heartbreaking to see

I just noticed that the blk cat adult, Miss Molly, didn't have any toys or bed in her cage. Nor the kittens had toys. Is there a specific reason? I'm just curious. I've seen that quite a bit actually and always wondered why. I think the way you're doing the buyout is a great start and a new normal. I know not being at the auction sucks but it is what it is.

Blood on clothes: Cold water wash! If the blood doesn't come out the 1st time, wash it again. Do NOT wash in warm or hot & do not put it in the dryer until the blood is out. Blood is a protein & just like eggs, it cooks in heat. So if you put it in the dryer or a warm or hot wash, it'll cook tht blood into the clothing. I use a product called 'Spray n' Wash' and spray the bloodied area on the clothing really well and let it sit for about 10 minutes before I throw it in the wash.

Is Horse Plus able to redirect funds donated to the auction program to buyouts given that you can’t go to the auction these days? It’s a closely related use, and it’s certainly fine for my monthly donation

Tawny, I use baking soda paste, or test an area not visible on the inside with hydrogen peroxide to bubble out the blood. whatever you do please don't wash in hot water. It makes the stain stay and never removes sad but true for me. I still have my favorite horse shirt which has a beautiful mare running. good luck and sending prayers for that beautiful baby horse. I thought id send a name in remembrance of my mama who passed on from Lou Garrets disease. Mamma's named Jewell. If possible may you name one of your beautiful lady's Jewell. If not, that is okay too. I always enjoy the naming of each animal chosen. They always fit each and every rescued animal. I thank each and every one of you for what you all are doing. God Bless you and keep you all safe to continue your amazing, loving care. May you all continue what you are doing. Saving each animal saved is another of God's creatures saved from that nasty nasty pipeline.

I think some of those people may be backed against a wall too and don’t have a choice but to send them to the slaughter auction. And yes they would rather bring them to you. At least I hope this. It’s good to see so many rehabilitated.

This video is older but addresses some serious concerns. You mention that a lot of people don't care - but I also wonder how many people think they can afford horses and then realize they can't. And a LOT OF PEOPLE are not animal people, or they're mentally ill and in denial. Theres a lot more in rescue than just "people not caring -" People think they care - when it comes down to it though they can't or maybe some of them DO and they can't afford it. Or they get in over their head. Or someone dies. And they realize - Oh these horses have been out back with no care for 2 years. They're being fed but we can't afford medical care. Etc etc etc etc. Horse care is astronomical. What ya'll are doing is a miracle.

Sometimes there's a lot of things that seem bad and yet they turn out to be something much better. So the auctions kicked you out that in turn made you get a buyout program which is a million times better than going to the auction. And also you're working on legislation. This is how it works with God is that everything turns out for your good. And things that appear to be really bad then workout to create something much better.
