Happy you enjoyed the bike. I have 68,000 km on mine from new. Just can’t justify getting anything else. Love it. Not had a single problem. It’s a 1st gen 2015 which I much prefer the styling of.

Great video! I tested this machine two weeks ago and agree with everything you said in your review. It's between this and the 2020 Ninja 650 as my next purchase. Have been researching running costs and as a relatively new full licence holder I fell off my chair when I saw the difference in insurance premiums between the CBR500R and most bikes in the 650 class. This might ultimately be the deciding factor along with the Honda's amazing fuel economy and the bike's stunning looks in the "Grand Prix" red livery!

Thanks! Yeah insurance jumps can be a bit mental I think. I've not ridden the ninja 650 yet but was actually looking at it today to see what I can arrange. Probably won't have a review of that up for a few weeks.

@@TommyBarnezTV I will be very interested in seeing what you think of the Ninja. I have also tested this one and I think you will find the ergonomics more to your liking than the CBR. Power delivery is smoother on the Honda but the Ninja has that little bit extra on tap that an experienced rider such as yourself will appreciate having at your disposal. Another stunning looking bike in the KRT livery and the brilliant TFT screen is something you just won't find on any other bike for the money.

Great video mate. I’m currently in the process of doing my test. This is a serious contender for the reasons you say but mainly the fun you can have within its range of power. That is what strikes every reviewer of this model. They all assume it’s going to be bland but come away impressed & smiling. I’m sold. I prefer the black. Then red. Then white. Cheers.

Great first bike choice. You'll always have people saying bigger is better, but a lot of those types aren't good riders and would never use all the power anyway. There will undoubtedly come a time when a new rider wants to step up to something bigger however when they do they would have developed really good riding skills. It would depend on rider but I would guess this is good for 15k miles, after that you'd possibly want to move onto something bigger. It would also be good to use on track days too to hone cornering skills. If you're based in UK I'd recommend the IAM or Rospa advanced motorcycle training after getting your license. It really helps get your bike life off to the right start rather than developing bad habits. Good luck with test 👍

I have just bought a CBR500R from Hunts Honda dealers in Manchester. It replaces my 2014 CBR250R. My preferred colour scheme is the blue, red, white mix which my 250 had. Not available for the new 500's, which is a "Grand Prix Red", as it is termed. I haven't received my new bike yet. It will be delivered in a couple of weeks. I live about 50 miles away from the dealer. I look forward to the experience of riding it. Commenting on 28th August, I hope what remains of the summer delivers up some decent weather to add to the occasion.

Good review. I am not young and nimble but 60 with 44 years on bikes. Downsized last year to 2019 cbr500r and a 2019 cb500 x and love them. Actually find the cbr500r more comfortable than the x on a long days ride. 👍

TommyBarnezTV Yes it’s a bit of a shock to my old body the first 15 mins but after that surprisingly good. Problem with my x is the screen buffeting causing pain in my neck and shoulders on a long ride. Tried screen extenders but not found a solution yet, shame because like the cbr500r it is a great bike.

I am 6" tall too, and i wonder how the windscreen cover (stock and honda addon) i think this could be a middle sport-touring bike if aerodinamics do it job well

hey - i'm 67 and ride my cbr500r. i'm back to biking - much against my wifes! i ride it in thailand, i easily get 175kph - about 109 mph, that's into license losing territory, i was thinking of changing up but decided i don't need to and there are loads of after market bits to personalise it, the akro exhaust makes it sound - and look great!

Time 13:00 min , Man you must have some HUGE ones cause I would never have gone that fast with all that woodage around on a two laner !!! All it would take would be a dog,cat,fox, deer, etc and boom your wiped out. Crazy man crazy, not to mention those intersections , holly crap man talk about getting t-boned if you made even the slightest mistake and I'm not talking about the round-abouts. From a guy from the states some of your road designs look insane . I'm sure the people from county that come here might think the same here. Anyway thanks for the review!! Most of us x racers seem to be going back to the light weight bikes instead of the typical 1000cc crap. Its just more fun on a 400-500cc bike. I'm riding a Honda NC30 these days and couldn't be happier . I'm starting to see alot more of these in town and in the mountains now than I ever have. Atleast with a 400-500cc bikes you can click through the gears and have fun without hitting triple digits and going to for 3 years. Peace brother.

Haha its funny as when I watch vids of people on bikes in the US I get really uncomfortable about the junctions and general road rules, looks so dangerous to me! I guess it comes down to knowing the local flow of traffic and working with it. The wooded area section you mention isn't as bad as it looks. The camera settings make it feel quicker than it is. Visibility is also a lot better when there and its also uphill so can lose speed very quickly if I have to. Wildlife running into the road can happen but is less common here than in the states I think. In all my road experience I've covered about 400-500k miles and I've had 2 unexpected squirrels run out. Its possible something bigger could run out however in sections where wildlife is more of an issue the road signs make it very clear. I'm not dismissing it though, its a good reminder to think about it.

Did anyone else notice that the front tire is mounted in the wrong direction?!!

Hello. I’m thinking of buying a used Honda CBR500R as my first bike, but I don’t know much about bikes. The Honda is a year 2020, has 3800km, has ABS, and is undamaged. They are selling it for 5,000 euros. What do you think about price?

I had a ride of a 2017 version a year or so ago, it was very good, but if I'd bought one, I would have got the CB500F. Sports bike seating position isn't for me (too old !) I do think Honda really need to make their 471cc twin have 270 degree firing order. All 270 degree twins seem to have a much better engine note, along with the L twins that I'm yet to get a go on. It wouldn't be a hard change to make . Just a new crankshaft and different engine timing.

Awesome thanks! Yeah definitely a good option I think. Make sure you have a test ride of one for an hour or so to see how it feels though. Id also suggest doing some advanced training once you have passed your mod 2. It really helps massively when you start riding. Good luck with the mod2 when tests are uo and running again 👍 💪

Wind is bad on the 500. I absolutely LOVE this 500 cbr 500 r , but the wind can be atrocious. The Mileage is AMAZING at 78 mpg!!! just don't expect your speed or power to be anywhere near the 600 RR honda. But this bike is a gem.

Just bought one, sold my zx14 and gsxf,,just to much for the road. the cbr500 is fun and comfotable and I'm 6ft 3 .

Not sure really. Not sure a lot could be done with regards to fitting a bike to my shape etc. May just be something to get used to in terms of riding position

In terms of comfort the rebel and the vulcan would have it. I havent ridden the vulcan but will be similar. I think best choice for a first bike is one that fits most of what you want to do with it. Vulcan and rebel great to cruising around getting from a to b in decent weather. If you're wanting to ride in the rain I'd want a screen. If you're wanting something to have fun on a track then the cbr500r is a better option

Will try, local dealer don't have one in their demo fleet unfortunately so might not happen for a while. They have a ninja 650 I'll be taking out though

What age did you start riding? I am 25 and looking at jumping straight to big bikes but the insurance cost is a massive put off. Any advice? What were you first quotes like? I am also very local to these roads your riding, it would be a shame if I never got out on them on a bike.

I went straight to big bikes at 35 so the age factor is going to make it cheaper for me. Also had a car license for over 15 years which I think counts a bit. To lower it you could do your institute of advanced motoring qualification after you have your license. Search Kent IAM and you should find them. Its advanced training so I'd do anyway but can also give you a reduction. Another option could be bike selection. Rather than looking at cc look at type of bike and value. Insurance premiums often look at how often a type of bike is stolen. Insurance on scooters is pretty high for that reason as they are always getting pinched. Next option would be considering 3rd party fire and theft rather than fully comp. You can also do some quotes and speak with the insurance companies, run through security options. Also even though you will have your bike license you could if you wanted still just get a smallish bike to build up some time on. It'll be worth it in the end. Hope that helps

Its comfy, you're not bent forward a lot so could ride a few hours without any pains

Have watched this video a thousand times. I have been riding for 30 years and am looking to downsize. Would this CBR be enough for everyday riding or do I need the CBR 650R? I'm not a speed freak

Thanks for all the views! Yeah its pretty good for day to day. If you were spending much time on roads around 70-80mph or with luggage, longer distance etc then the 650 might be better but really depends on your riding and miles. I ride a 650 v strom as my daily and have put about 50k miles on that in the last few years with zero dramas. The cbr500r wouldn't personally work for me as a daily as on motorways a lot, and longer distances. The 500 for weekends and around town would be great though I think.

What is "A2"? That a UK/Europe thing? Like billboard size license plates?

Yeah its a level of license you can get. Its a little confusing and there are rules around it but without getting overly complicated its related to age. To get a full licence you need to be over 24 - the complication is you can get a full license under 24 however requires a number of extra steps and time riding. A2 license is often what people under the age of 24 will have. An a2 bike or a bike with an a2 restrictor kit on it has a limited amount of power. Full category A license is completely unlimited. Covers UK and mainland Europe I think, unsure if anywhere else. You also have another category a lot under 24 will go for which is a learner license. This is a 125cc bike. They have to have L plates and cant take a pillion or ride on the motorway which is our version of a freeway. Getting a learner license is very easy and cost effective so a lot will opt for that and then get a full license once they get to 24. The billboard number plates are a little different in that a slight reduction in size is often overlooked whereas category of license and correlating bike have to be met

Many young people wait until they are 24 years, to prevent several relatively expensive steps that has to be done by attending a driving school and test + a doctor's health check. Only motorcycle mechanics/apprentices (+20 years) and military (+21 years) may get an full "A" license, but they are only allowed to drive the big bikes within professional purposes until they reach 24 years.

13:31 - "You can't ride the Ninja 1000 SX at its limit because you'd lose your license."? What??? I've never had the Honda CBR500R, but I know it reaches top speeds of 180 KM/H, if you ride your 500 at limit you'll lose your license.

'Horses are scared of everything' So that's why they take them onto the road then...lol...
