Honda Rebel 500 Review 2020 4K

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Review of the Honda Rebel 500 S which was kindly lent to me by the guys at Honda Maidstone - www.maidstonehonda.co.uk/
Last years review of the Honda Rebel 500 ( • Honda Rebel 500 Review... ) is my most viewed video so I felt it was a good time to review the new rebel 500 for 2020 and the S version!
Improvements this year are the addition of gear indicator and led lighting. The S version has the cowling at the front, the gaters, and the seat. There have been some improvements to the suspension this year however I can't say I noticed. It might be more noticeable if you ride them back to back.
The Honda Rebel 500 is still a great first motorbike or a bike for someone that likes cruising around on the weekends.
The Honda Rebel 500 is a very distinct bike with the slope of the tank making it easy to spot. With its low seat height and weight it is great for shorter riders who worry about heavy bikes. My other half is 5ft2 and it’s on the list of bikes she will be looking at once she gets her licence.
The Honda Rebel 500 doesn’t have a great amount of power on paper however I felt it fine for having some fun and getting around. The only time the bike might be lacking in power is if you are planning on overtakes around the 90mph range. Once you know where the power is then it is fine for getting you out of trouble when you need, and having some fun.
Riding the Rebel 500 is easy too. The seating position is comfortable though an upgraded seat might be something to look at as I got a sore bum towards the end of my ride. The Rebel 500 handles well easily falling into the turns.
The stock exhaust of the Rebel 500 isn’t in this video instead we have the Honda Rebel 500 Lextek Exhaust - amzn.to/2NfxTxM - double check with Lextek about the link pipe but I’m convinced this is the one just without the carbon look. The exhaust sounds awesome as you will see in the video and well worth looking into. If you want to get in touch with Steve at Honda Maidstone he'll be able to point you in the right direction - showard@maidstonehonda.co.uk
The only concern I had with the rebel 500 was the front brake though I was putting it under a lot of strain at the time.
All in all a great bike.

    I just got my 23 plate Rebel SE. Added some extras. Heated grips, givi crash bars, rear rack in place of rear seat pad. Took service plan and Datatool stealth package. Got her ceramic coated. Fits me perfect, being vertically challenged. And inside leg of 27 inches. Going by your height, defo think, it would feel cramped. My mate sat on mine. He is 6’ 4. Liked the sitting position but as soon as he put feet on pegs was like, too small. He liked the sound . Great video.

    Honda actually upgraded the suspension on it too. Stiffer fork springs and heavy duty type of shocks in the back highly improved the bike.

    Done about 1500 miles since January on my 2019 rebel and yes the gear indicator would be nice but once you get used to the engine notes it's not an issue, mind you that seat looks a bit plusher. I got a 500 ABS 2019. Gone about 850 when i bought it. I got a great deal on it, so happy. BUT, be aware, the throttling from 1st to 2nd gear on a 500 is waaaaay to low. So low its gonna annoy some people if you are not used to it. Myself, i sometimes take of in 2nd gear depending on the situation. If at standstill, and a flat area? Rev it with 2nd gear... Again, you are gonna be annoyed if you think you can get it up to 60km/ph before switching from 1st to 2nd.

    Some other improvements for this 2020 are the suspension and a slip assist clutch. Maybe that's why you thought it felt better. That rear light assembly looks so much better now. They don't offer the S version in the states or in matte black but you can buy the cowl, fork boots, seat separately. I'd like to get one of these someday.

    I live in London & have a Rebel 500 & it’s absolutely fine round town, doesn’t need a bigger engine. I stayed in Oxfordshire during lockdown & i did multiple day rides without a power problem. I’m 5’8” so it’s a perfect fit & a superb engine. I think the benefit of a the Africa Twin 1100 engine, if the rumours are to be believed, will only be worth it if you are going to do some long distance touring. The 650 inline four would be interesting though. However, the 500 engine is one of Honda’s best. Last year I did a 2000-mile ride in the US for a newspaper feature on the 50th anniversary of the movie, Easy Rider. Did it on a Harley Sportster 1200 but to be honest I would have preferred to do it on the Rebel - far smoother ride. Interesting what you said about Americans & filtering,in Arizona for instance, you cannot filter but you can ride without a helmet, which seems bonkers & counter-intuitive to me. In the US, you can only filter in California, despite all the evidence proving it is safer to filter/lane-split, but that’s America for you.

  • @TommyBarnezTV

    @TommyBarnezTV

    Sounds like a good trip! I'd quite like to see honda bring out a bigger rebel. Id personally prefer an 1100 but see you're point about the 650. Also they have a cbr650r and cbr500r which works I think. I find the American approach to bikes very alien. Granted you know what you're used to, but wouldn't be comfortable not filtering, and definitely wouldn't be comfortable without a helmet

    @@TommyBarnezTV It was an amazing trip. Their attitude is, at times, baffling. There is a macho attitude, led it seems by the “big” Harley riders who look down on all non Harleys & even on the smaller Harleys. They are the riders who don’t need helmets & ABS, although most of them have to duck-walk their hogs as they appear to have never mastered the friction zone. I could go on....... I think it’s probably a done deal with the 1100 Rebel as I imagine Honda has its eyes on the Sportster 1200 , the Yamaha Bolt & the Indian Scout. I rented the Rebel 300 for a day in Thailand but it was not a patch on the 500.

  • @TommyBarnezTV

    @TommyBarnezTV

    Its OK on the highway but is probably at the limit of what I'd personally be comfortable with. For highway speeds I like a bike that can comfortably get up to 90 quickly if I required. The rebel could do that up to about 80 with my weight (90kg). It'll get up higher if you need just won't be instant. I have a friend that had a RC 390, and she avoided highways but I think that was mostly due to wind. The cbr650r is pretty solid. I've got a review up of that and it has no issues on the highway, very light also and even though its not as comfortable as the rebel for your distance it would be ok I think. Have a ride of them all though and see which one works for you, all decent capable bikes. Ive not personally ridden the ktm but I havent heard of any issues from my friend apart from the wind I mention.

    @@Jremo. jesus christ man i was so stupid and naive. I didnt take weather conditions into consideration. You may not want the speed but youre going to need that extra power if you end up in a windy situation or going uphill on the highway. I rev at max rpm and there have been times when i wish i had the 500 because mine only goes 40 mph in those conditions. If you can, i wouldnt get either and id get the 1100 but if those two are your only options, then definitely get the 500. Dont make the same mistake i did because the lack of power sucks when the weather isn’t perfect or when the streets arent flat.

    3 жыл бұрын

    Im still on the 300 since im waiting to have enough for the 1100 but i can assure you that the 500 is the way to go. Heres an example, most cars have a top speed of 140-160mph. No one drives that fast but the engine is capable of using that much power in case its needed. The same goes for bikes. Plus, the more powerful the engine is, the lower your rpm is at high speeds so it’ll keep your engine lasting longer. Good luck with your new bike, brother.✌️
