I have just bought that exact bike a few points to add, the front binnacle does a great job of covering the cables and wiring harnesses making the front end much tidier. The CMXS also includes the blacked out front fork covers, the exhaust although looking like a turd does have a nice rasp when you give it a quick twist in commuting traffic. The LED headlight is very bright however it's interesting on dark roads, there is no transition at the edge of the light beam, it's either super bright or unlit. It is a bike that adapts to an amazing range of riders, I'm about 1.65 M but only 27 inch inseam, I'm also 60 years old developing arthritic hands and knees, this thing is just so easy to step over and the controls specially the clutch are so light and progressive to use that even on the most painful of days it's still a dream to ride. The power is more than adequate for any legally posted speed limit, then some. Perfect for a relaxed hills ride taking in the sights and a coffee stop with your mates, you won't get left behind.

@@rayg9069 Thanks for that info. 14 miles to a litre town roughly about 70 to the gallon. It seems to do worse on a run which is the opposite to most bikes, usually they do better on a run unless you hammer them but around town they do less. I am tempted but I'm finding it hard to find any bike that offers the same as my NTV700 or even close with a similar performance. I don't need such a big bike but I do like to ride on motorways from time to time, I find my NTV so good but around town is a bit big. I thought about the CB500 x but that bike is so tall I want something I can just slump onto when I finish work and relax all the way home on, this kinda fitted the bill but that 11 ltr tank is tiny, I would end up going to the petrol station way too many times to make such a bike viable for me.

I bought the CMX 300 Rebel for my 18 year old daughter to learn to ride on a few months ago. She passed the MSF class and I got her a motorcycle. Yep, she's spoiled. Thing is, I like riding it, too. Even the small-engine version is nice. I have my sights set on a new motorcycle for me, too. I'm considering the Rebel 500, the Shadow 750 Aero, or the Rebel 1100 for me. Our local motorcycle shop does not allow test rides, so I'm watching video reviews.

Cost will probably vary with location. But intervals are 1000km / 600miles run in service, then after that every 12000km / 8000miles. Oil change once a year if you run it less than 12k a year, brake fluids every 2 years, radiator coolant every 3 years.

It's a good bike for getting back into riding, a couple of hours trotting about in parking lots and quiet streets, and you get right back into it. I had a 2018 Rebel...but the single cylinder 300 version. I thought the bike was going to vibrate apart at high rpm. It felt like I was riding a power sander, or the paint mixing machine at the hardware store. Also the seat felt like I was sitting on a 2X4. So after only 30 minutes of riding, I hurt 'down there', and my hands were numb. It was my first motorcycle and I bought it because it was said to be a good first bike. I learned on it. Not only how to ride, but what I like and don't like. And I discovered I'm just not a cruiser guy. It handled well, I'll give it that....and that's probably what I needed in a first bike. But because of the vibrations, it had to go. Was considering a Honda CB500X, but none in my area. Ended up with a Kawasaki Versys 650. I'd like to hear Mr. Fish's review of the Versys 650. Especially considering how much he loves the CB500X.

I own a Royal Enfield 350 single and have just bought the 500 Rebel, you don't know what vibration is until you ride a Enfield ;-) Cruisers are not for everyone just as Super Sports don't do a thing for me, what ever works for you is the main thing. I doesn't matter what you ride as long as you enjoy the ride.

Hello and thanks for this video and your enthousiast comments. But as many videos i watched about this bike i intend to buy soon (when i will get, i hope succefully, my licence ) nothing is said about the riding on altitude on high mountains. I live in south west France, at the feet of Pyrenees , and riding up there on my Yamaha SR 125 (Aubisque, Tourmalet etc..) is my main pleasure on bike. Mr Fish or anyone has a feedback about this Rebel behavior when it's climbing ?? Thanks for any kind of opinion on that matter.

Thanks for the answer.Better than my 125,i hope so ! As for climbing, ,the places i ride are the same as Le Tour de France and Col d'Aubisque is 1709 meters and Col du Tourmalet is 2115 meters. Beautiful ride !

Purely cosmetic . Yes, they prevent flying stones hitting the forks and chipping the chrome. Although I've never had an issue with that. As for rust I find they cause it. Moisture gets in behind them and you can't see the damage its doing. I slide mine up and clean dry and protect the slider.

If you removed rear foot pegs...How would the exhaust stay on, as looks like both are bolted on together ?

You remove the peg, but leave the bar so it can hold the exhaust still. There are some instruction videos on KZread if you want details. :)

Having the same dimensions as yourself (186 cm, inseam 35), it would interest me to know if touring hours a day is physically well feasable. 500 km+ a day are no exception. What do you think?

I think your legs might get a bit cramped, but looking at the bike Honda have designed it almost as if they will be offering forward set controls at some time, if they don't it would be straight forward for someone with a welder to make a set of adapters to move the controls forward

Would it kill you to show a bit of emotion and let us know how you really feel about a bike? :^D In the States, the smaller version seems to be used a fair amount at riding schools. The looks don't move me, I'd like to see a UJM version without that huge drop in the frame where the seat is. But then I have a 36"+ inseam - much more suited to the adventure bikes than cruisers.

It's a 190 kg with 45 HP what are you trying to dodge, exocets? It's plenty of power for most situations unless you are into PBs through technical twisties, but then you wouldn't be on a cruiser bike. I think Honda are working on an 1100 version with the Africa twin motor ;-)
