No wonder they're so popular. A lightweight custom cruiser with a nice low seat height and fantastic fuel economy, adequate performance and Honda build quality and reliability. The low seat makes them accessible to a far wider range of riders. Great review Mark with no gimmicks or loud music, really appreciated!

This is the first time I have heard a reviewer use the word characterful. Every other review says that the main issue with the bike is the fact that is lacks character. Thanks for the review!

Having watched all your Honda 500 reviews the CB500X would be my pick of the litter. 80mph UK is especially good with the outrageous fuel costs. Honda reliability on this 500cc motorcycle should be excellent. Nice review as always and cheers from the Nations Dairyland ( Wisconsin). All the best.

Great review Mark! I upgraded Rebel 300 to 500 it’s a nice little jump up especially since I switched 2019 to 2022 to I got the new L.E.D lights and slipper clutch as a bonus. The power upgrade was worth it! The parallel twin beats the single %100. Thought about the 1100 but I thought it might be a bit overkill for me as I’m a smaller rider.

Thanks, Mark, for the excellent review. My wife purchased the rebel as her first bike after passing her test on one. She picked this bike mainly for the very low seat height, she being only 5' 1" tall. Mods to help her were, handlebar riser (which brings the bars up & back) adjustable leavers (she has small hands) heated grips as she suffers from Reynaud's disease (hands affected by cold) Other mods are, radiator guard (why do bike manufacturers omit a rad guard?) panniers, top box, LED driving lamps, screen & sat nav. She has now done 8,000 miles on it & loved every mile. We highly recommend the 500 Rebel & as a bonus, it's A2 licence compliant 😁

Love the style of the Rebel 500. All reviews I’ve seen highly recommended this bike so I’ve just ordered one for delivery March 1st 2023. The one thing I’d like to see in bike reviews but rarely done is a section with a pillion passenger. How is it for the passenger, for the main rider, torque, cornering, suspension etc. Apart from that, great review.

I have always been a Yamaha fan, but I don't really see any that I like at the moment.. @@user-rf9me7xm1w I only have an A1 licence as decided very late in life to ride bikes again. I am actually very interested in the MT03. I like two cylinder bikes having loved my Honda CB125 twin back in the 80s with its 16.5 bhp. I've done around 55000 miles since I got the Vespa in 2016 and plan to do an A2, but they sure have made it harder to get a licence. The MT03 looks like the perfect bike to me, a balance of power and economy! PS my SH125i does around 130 mpg and always does 200 miles to a tank with a bit to spare.

The Yamaha is a lovely little bike with enough power to keep up today’s rat race. There are some lovely 300cc scooters around too though. Best of luck with the A2 modules, go for it, I’m the wrong side of 70 and still get a great deal of pleasure in riding.

That gap between the tank and the frame is a real eye sore. I would worry about getting beached on a speed hump or kerb with the extended wheel base and low clearance. The tiny instrument panel inside an old-school speedo is just trying too hard to make a fashion statement. The 500X model is a great bike and is much more practical and versatile.

You'd have to change the rear shocks and adjust the front forks and maybe fit the lower seat to match the Rebels seat height but at RE prices you could do all that for less than a single rebel accessory and not sure I could have much emotional attachment to a black slab compared to a bike with some shiny chrome but maybe that's my age.

i like this bike a lot. it ticks most of the boxes for me. The thing that really turns me off is the rudimentary speedo. Most of the learner bikes or even bikes costing half the price has a nicer speedo than this. Probably the Rebel 1100 has a slightly better speedo which unfortunately cannot be used on this bike. Something like the Royal Enfield gauges would look right at home here and raise it a notch or 2 in class. Such a pity. Another thing pointed out by another reviewer is that there is a particular vibration at 110 km/h, which happens to be exact speed where most highway users (in my country) travel at. 10 km/h less, or 10km/h more and the vibration disappears but that's 10km/h over the speed limit or 10 km/h slower than traffic. The standard seat out of the factory is just useless but at least, it's easily replaced. Although i am thinking of getting one, those 2 factors are holding me back and there are no ways to solve those problems - basic speedo and vibration at 110km/h.

I love these Honda 500s - I think any one of them would be a great choice. It seems that the Rebel 500 is still carrying a premium price here in NZ. I am looking at CB500F or CBR500R for my next bike. ( There are benefits to staying below 600cc here in NZ - thanks tax )
