1 Million Reasons to Get a Honda CBR500R

As I wrap up my first year of motorcycling riding, I reflect on some things i've learned and experienced while on two wheels and pay my respects to the CBR500R, my first love, the one that got away.
This will be likely be the final piece of CBR500R on this channel for quite some time. If the right deal pops up, maybe the 500 will find her way back to me in some form, but for now I will be daily riding my 2008 CBR600RR.
Big shoutout to the CBR500R facebook group, thanks for helping make this happen.
Take care everyone.

i think the weirdest thing about this bike is how good it looks in real life. I always kind of ignored it as an option because of the photos i saw of it, but once i saw it in real life on the showroom floor i was stunned. Have been riding on it for about a month now, planning a lot of trips with it this summer:)

I know this is marketed as a "sport" bike. But I love touring around on this thing. Plus in my humble opinion, this looks far sexier than any "sports touring" bikes on the market. Granted, it may not be as comfortable.... But to do a 2-3 hour journey on this is very do-able. Comfort and vanity (not always a bad thing haha), both needs fulfilled.

I really love the functionality of this bike. I mean, even the display looks soo modern and great. And you're able to take something with you under your seat, there's plenty of room for a sportbike! And I mean also the price, the services, the costs are so low, you can't compare it. I've a lot of friends, which are using the MT-07, but I actually need to say: The torque is great but the looking? I would call my 500R as my Babyblade 🥰

@@stevenlevy6680 I fit them both. And my knees are not near as bent as they are on an mt-03 or on Z400. Which I can’t comfortably fit on anyway. I just bought a 2017 cbr 500r last week. It’s my third bike. It only had 62 original miles on it. I thought well damn a new bike at a used bike price. Sold. My first bike was a ninja 500 and my last bike was a cbr 600f4i. In terms of power and riding it the bike is well balanced and has enough juice for around town. Definitely not as fast as my f4i but is comfortable and easy to ride. For what I need it for it’s perfect. Everyone at work has been telling me how good it looks and all that type of stuff so the looks are definitely on point. Safe riding friends.

I got a 2019 CBR500R as my 4th bike. First was ZZR 250 (Ninja), Yamaha FZ6, FZ6R, now this. I have to say the CBR500R is about the right amount of power and delivery for the roads, and for off-road if you get the CB500X. Lots of low-end power that you can just roll-on in any gear and it just picks up speed. It's definitely a more relaxed demeanor than a Ninja 400, but it deals with a passenger better. I get between 2.8 and 3.4 L/100 km so far (in 7000 km of riding) with a 500 km fuel range. Insurance was also very, very good compared with even the Ninja 400. Many riders have over 100,000 km and some over 200,000 km on these Honda 500 twins. It feels quick up to about 120 or 130 km/h, which is where you get pulled over here in Canada. One thing I found is the windscreen deflects wind into my helmet pretty badly. I rode for a while with it off and it helped a lot. I also found it feels more nimble if you don't inflate the front tire to the maximum rating. The LED lighting all around is fantastic but I wish the high beam had a wider spread... it's very narrow so you can't signal adjacent vehicles with it. Another nice thing is that you can get a SHAD top box for it, which looks a bit silly but is extremely handy to have, especially when taking a passenger. It's certainly not for everyone, but it's such a humble and fun bike to run about. If you're looking for adrenaline rushes and performance, this isn't it. If you want a great economical daily rider / light tourer that's fast enough to wind out and enjoy without going excessively fast, this is a solid choice.

Great post. Totally agree with everything you said. I started on a Yamaha R3 and while a great bike to learn on, moving to a 2019 Honda CBR500R was a dream. Who needs more than the power this bike delivers for street riding? I would rather ride this to the max than ride a liter bike on the street. I urge new riders to learn their craft on something that doesn’t intimidate. Highly highly recommend this bike. I fear finding one in 2020/2021 might however be difficult. But keep looking. The slipper clutch is amazing. I haven’t even changed the exhaust. My one critique is the lack of ability to put rear spools on this bike - so I would strongly advise if you are going to lift this bike via the swing arm get a really good rear paddock lift (like one that sounds like a dog breed) don’t try to lift it on a cheap lift your investment needs a quality lift. So my only comment to Honda give us the ability to easily add rear spools. But if you are on the fence about buying this bike let me give you some good friendly advice...buy it!

True what you said about older guys coming back to user friendly sporty bikes with more upright seating & water-cooled twins. I started riding bikes when I was 11 years old. Now I'm 71 aways had motorcycles including a early 350 SL Honda scrambler, CB 750 Honda, my last bike I love Kawasaki ninja 650r. Thin water-cooled twin. More upright seating position. All the power I need. It is one of best sellers by far in the Ninja lineup for good reason. This Honda 500 is also excellent motorcycle for all the same reasons. If I had one first thing would do is change the pipe. Leo Vince makes a nice looking & sounding carbon pipe for the CBR 500. Also what you said about 400# bike more stable on windy rides & freeway.

The CB250r (I assume it will be the 300 for you, I get the 250cc version here) has the best ergonomics for me, but the seat is a bit too hard. The salesman says I fit better on the CB500X, but it felt too big for me. I also have to cross a 13 mile long bridge, with dedicated motorcycle lane, daily. Reason for a heavier bike is due to crosswind. Still, people cross it with a moped.

Yes at highway speeds they’ll do more than fine. Youre still quicker than most cars on the road even at high-ish highway speeds. The only reason I can think to consider something else is if you want to pay just a wee bit more you can have your pick at a 650cc option from Kawasaki

I loved the 500 and i stand behind everything i said in this video. The 500r community is second to none. I ended up on a kawasaki klx300 supermoto and ultimately decided that was better for me. If you want a sportbike this is the one to start on.

Best advice is buy a cheap 250 or 300cc used bike from a honest seller. Learn to enjoy riding a motorcycle without needing a specific motorcycle in order to be happy. Enjoy the process of learning how to enjoy and skillfully ride a motorcycle. Then, when you are confident and you know its what you really want, buy the bike you truly want. If you can afford to take a learners class, please do.
