I agree with you 100%. Most people that ride (in my personal experience) jump from these smaller bikes to "faster/bigger" bikes wayyy too soon. I cant tell you the amount of people I meet on beautiful and expensive 600cc - 1000cc bikes, that cant "ride" the things to save their lives. Regardless of how "slow" these beginner bikes will start to feel after you have them for a while, there is no limit to the things you can really learn on them, while also being on a machine that will forgive your mistakes (because you will make them) and wont hurt your wallet so much when you inevitably lay it down. Great video keep up the good work.

Finally I am the same logic as you, and I never drove one.. My cbr500 is coming soon.. So many comments that you can start on a SS bike.. Like for sure, you can, if you don't use the throttle as much and yada yada.. If you are scared to open the throttle then maybe you are driving above your limit. I wouldn't wanna touch a R6 as my first bike.. I'll learn on this and give it to my brother or sell it ..

The timing of this thoughtful video was perfect - I tested this bike yesterday and agree with everything you say. This CBR500R is honestly more like in the 300cc category than in 600cc category. For example, Yamaha R3 321cc has 42HP, MT-03 321cc has 50HP. CBR500R has 48HP. Meanwhile, Yamaha MT-07 689 has 73HP. I think it's half-way between bikes for experienced riders and 125s. I think I am reasonable to buy this one after 3 years of driving a scooter 125 and passing a demanding driving test.

Hey man - I got the CBR300r right now and am looking to do what you did as the second bike. I'm not the type of rider who wants a 1000cc bike (most of what I do is suburban travel and commuting). I'm incredibly happy with the 300 rn but what worries me is any speed above 60mph it seems as though theres just no power left and passing becomes difficult. Granted I'm not looking for a bike going double highway speeds but just reliable power at 60-75mph. Is this bike a little better for that?

  • @HaoVu1

I really wouldnt start on a cbr600rr. I have owned both. My best advice to you is to buy a used one. Any used bike it doesnt matter. Learn how to be a good street rider on a cheaper used bike if you can. Dont finance something that you might wreck in a month. The 600rr is a supersport, pure performance motorcycle that you will never need on the street. Unless you plan to be a track guy, i would stay away from supersport bikes for a naked or something like the 500

I went with the 2020 Yamaha R3. Love it, with a full exhaust and tune it’ll keep up with this 350-500cc segment. I don’t weigh a ton, so that helps. It’s capable on the highway too, no problem cruising at 80MPH+ for hours with occasional 100MPH+ jaunts. If you weigh less than 200lbs I recommend looking at the R3 as well. Reliable, efficient, plenty of aftermarket parts available, and it looks amazing. I’ve pulled a KTM RC390 at higher speeds with a stock R3, the single cylinder just doesn’t have that top end like the R3’s parallel twin engine does. Definitely interested in finding a Honda CBR500R to compare to with.

When i made this video i was ignorant of power/weight ratio. The R3 is a fantastic platform and people obviously love them! The extra displacement of the honda is mitigated by its bulkiness but i think performance wise they are similar. R3 might have more top end as i understand it

I went with an MT03 for my 1st bike , has plenty of power for the weight and won't get you into trouble as fast as an 07. The Honda is a great bike too for a beginner as are the Yamaha 300's. Both the Yammie and Honda are ultra dependable and at the end of the day it just comes down to the individuals riding style IMO. CHEER👍

I ride the CB125R here in UK and probably my "Pride processor " , is broken as I don't care about what others, think or say, don't feel embarrassed if I stall at the traffic lights or anything, I just go out for the fun of it and boy Nimbus ,(my bike), is fun, especially when you weave through traffic and leave 20 cars behind .It's nippy and agile and that's all you need. In future I will probably go for the CB650R or Suzuki Boulevard M109R ,haha 😄. You need to empty your mind of worries and ride your ride ,go at a speed you are comfortable with and don't let others tell you otherwise. I went on 73MPH and call me weird , but that throat clenching ,the wind gives you, it's kinda addictive. I don't want to know how it's on 650, probably the "claw" grabs you faster by the throat, haha. Anyway ,while going 73Mph I was thinking : " What if something goes wrong ? " , and then I said, " If it is to happen, I did something that I enjoyed to the end, so no regret! " But hey that's just the weird me.

I grabbed a pre-owned 2019 790 Duke and so far so good with reliability...fingers crossed. One of the reasons however for going non-Japanese was that insurance seemed to be cheaper on Euro brands and Twins. I suspect this is because riders tend to throw Japanese Sport Bikes down the road on the regular. For all my insurance quotes, my 790 Duke came in much cheaper than the 2007~2008 CBR 600RR I was looking at.

Looked at ninja 650, more power and same weight as cbr500r, but a bit more expensive. But fair since has stronger engine and higher rpms. But I dunno if I want to spend that extra money for extra power for my first bike. Decisions... Lol I'm in love with cbr500r looks and I had the most fun driving with cb500f at my driving school. First lessons were with that one and then passed to the mt07. Stronger but didn't feel that much fun. Dunno if was just that first feeling riding a bike with the cb500f or is actually more fun to ride than Mt. And the sound seems quite good for a 2 cylinder stock exhaust.
