I planted two apricot trees 10 years ago when we bought this house. I've never gotten a single apricot. I have 2 apple trees. Same...Not an apple. I planted 2 pear trees. I got some pears 3 years ago. I have 8 fig trees. I didn't get enough figs last year to make a pint of figs. But we have the happiest and fattest squirrels on earth! If they weren't so CUTE I'd have some awesome squirrel stew. I just picked enough figs today to maybe can a full pint of jam. Hence, gonna mix it with peaches so I have enough to worry with. Loved your video!!!

Omg I just made my very first jam. I have an Apricot tree and I never took advantage of them until this year. I’ve been very stressed at the idea of Canning . I watched plenty of videos, took down a bunch of notes and even after that I think I screwed up. I just took my 7 jam jars out of my pot. I realized that I didn’t clean the jar lips before putting the lids and rings on at least 3 or 4 of them. I’ve heard 3 or 4 of them PING , but not all have PINGED. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow once I check them and see what’s what. At least I don’t think I will ever (not) do that again and I will just put a regular lid and put them in the fridge. I’m still excited about Canning. Wish me luck.

I buy two bushels of apricots every summer from a grower in southern Oregon, I get mine next week and I am so excited because I can apricot halves in light syrup as well as canning up some jam. Late July I get two bushels of peaches to can in medium syrup than 4 cases of Bartlet pears in early August. Wild blackberries grow in my backyard along the west fence and all over my town and they are just starting to develop green berries now, I make a few dozen half-pint jars of seedless blackberry jam and a few gallons of blackberry brandy plus a couple gallon baggies full to put in the freezer for holiday pies. I love that fruit canning starts before pickle season but this year my cucumbers are starting to put out and my dill is flowering already so I will have to juggle fruit and pickle canning before, tomato sauce and stewed tomato canning. Busy time of year for sure but we love it don't we!

Are you in the Southern Oregon area? Such as Medford, Grants Pass or extreme northern CA. such as Yreka, Crescent City, Eureka areas? If so I could get you in touch with the suppliers. It really is a great price, especially if you go pick them yourself, like fifteen dollars a bushel or case. You can google your local orchards then contact them for you pick deal or wholesale purchase, if you get your friends and family in on it the more you buy the better the price. I often purchase the seconds or grade B because the fruit is ripe and not as pretty as it needs to be for the grocery store but still just as good for canning but less expensive.

Well do a google search to see if there are any fruit orchards near you, call them and see if you can meet them to set up a wholesale purchase of a few bushels. I hope it works out for you, check with your farmers market, sometimes growers sell at them and will set you up with a good price for case purchases.
