It did become a show mine for a few years in the early 80s, we cleared the bottom entrance and put some rings in, and used to take tours down on weekends, would love to have a look down there it's been nearly 40 years since I went down there, used to spend every weekend down there exploring, the tour used to go to a mock face and then down to the water, and back, the pack wall was all built by a guy who was nearly blind when the mine was working, the breeze pillers were put in when Smith's Runners robbed them to make there Davy Blocks, that's what was made there after the mine closed, have you been down Pretoria Mine on Monyash Road in Bakewell, my dad worked there been all around there to, 😊

Thanks for the info Tom, as for Pretoria would love to but I thought you needed special permission and I dont know who to approach ? Have you viewed our video below the water in Holme Bank we spent literally years putting that together bit by bit if you view it look at the little creatures living on wood props at the far end. A trip would be good for you Tom as we have been visiting her for about 20 years and in the last 18 months we are noticing a lot of movement and small collapses , would be interesting for you to see them .

Yes mate we know this place very well both above and below the water and in the last 2/3 years we have also noticed a lot of movement, its like the whole place will eventually slip down hill. One of the places we get in the water down the incline not at pump base the deads there a couple of years ago were plumb now there is a big bulge and even sings of collapse under the water. Every time we go in we spot something new !
