Fabulous. Was great to see inside an old lead mine. I've walked the hills of Derbyshire since I was a teenager but I would never go down one of those holes. I found it fascinating.

Will have to look in my records. My ancestors were miners on Bonsall Moor and surrounding area. Peaked my interest with initials JW, JR and WB. The first one fits one of my ancestors.

Amazing to think these places were somewhere people would turn up to work in every day!

Very entertaining! There's a lot of old lead mines near me but I think all are sealed up.

Bloody hell, it's bad enough exploring these tight places, can you imagine the pure hell of working in one? Was in a bit of a neck breaker yesterday, was glad to see chest deep water so I could crouch and float more. Video will be up eventually for that. As bad as it seems, maybe they used children in that second one. Eek, can see long drill holes in number 5, imagine trying to get good distance before that goes off? I thought he was a gonner for a second with that shaft. Enjoyed that :)

Jesus what a place to have to work in. Ive been underground plenty of times and love it, but that place was oppressively tight all the way. Imagine having to work in such a place for a survival pittance.

crazy times when people could find stuff underground valuable enough to fund the excavation of mines...I just wonder at the risks and rewards and the life of people back then.

Those dimensions are roughly equal to the ones in my local lead mine in Lancashire, the mines nowhere near that length though. It dates to 1691 and was hand dug following the vein but it runs out only a short distance in, around 50m.

Maybe it was mainly children mining hence the tightness of the shafts? In having said that I restore antique furniture and the wardrobes from the early 1900/s one cannot put modern coat hangers in as they are to small so yes the stature of people back then where slight compared to modern times .Also mining lead by hand before we where aware of its toxic properties probably causes serious health and genetic issues .I wonder if it was chipped by hand or black powder used?I dint see any pick marks.

What a terrible mine to work in. If that other board was just as bad I would have thrown it down the shaft, thankfully you have the knowledge and experience to watch for that stuff. That’s a good example for wanna be KZread explorers to just stay out of mines and let the guys that know what they are doing explore and video. I see videos of weekend explorers bring young kids in with just a cellphone for light.

re looking back at video , I think 2nd mine was actually either a inclind windlass connected to whim or gin or it could have been a up cast , the up cast didnt need to travel people and some were put in just to get round new 1862 legislation mainly related to coal mines but included all mine's. hey just a thought that makes you feel beter about your size, there is no way I would have made it as far as that.

Just looking to see if you could tell me about silver mines. We were going to explore one but there's a sign on it taking about radiation or something??

These mines weren't worked by children 😂 You're all assuming that people have always been semi-obese six footers and not the short, half-starved locals working in terrible conditions doing hard manual labour day in and day out. One suggestion Antonio, don't use the F work so much in your commentaries 😡

I used to have to edit out the swearing when with some of my friends after getting a few negative comments on my videos. They're all a bit "easier on the ear" now after I showed them the feedback they were getting 😀@@UndergroundExplorerUK
