Beautiful mine to explore Antonio. The pack walls are outstanding. Just brilliant.

I surveyed both this and Pretoria Mine in the 1970s. I'm pleased to see that now it's gated there's a lot less graffiti and rubbish in there. Good video but it's a real maze of workings, very hard to show viewers which part of the mine you're in. I'll look forward to part 2 🙂

Escape from the Dark was the first time at the pictures by myself.. It was about the release of the pit ponies after been working in the mines. I cried my eyes and one firmly planted as a happy memory.

Great video thanks for showing us. They did a good job on the stone work along the walls I would love to have been around there in the early years.

Mining finished in the late 40s early 50s there the long levels were lit with open-wick oil lamps I have two given to me in 1968 by one of the last miners to work there

When we opened it up to the public in around 1980-81 the place stunk of carbide in the lower levels, the smell isn't there anymore but it was very distinctive smell, also found bulbs and twincore electric cable, it's a fantastic place I've spent hours in there over the years.

@@Olminer66 yes I first went down in 1968 we were shown around by one of the last miners to work there he was in his 70s then, he gave me two oil lamps that lit the levels in the 1890s to the late 40s later electric was installed for the lights and pumps in the lower levels they pumped water to drain the lower levels and for the stone cutting saws in the yard outside, so yes carbide was used in the 50s the quarry entrance fell in in the 70s from memory

@@keithrimmer3 my dad worked at the other mine nr the school in fact he was the last employee as he was the caretaker until it was sold in the 80s so that place was my playground and first mine explore and I had a carbide lamp from there it sat in our living room next to the fireplace for years I found it in the old stores it was brand new, not sure what happened to it but there were drill steels stone hammers and stone fork's and also pick shafts all brand new and not used and in the winch house there was an old penny farthing sat leaning against the wall,

Here we go again... watch start of video and tell me how they Moved these blocks to build a wall... and why use them if they could of done same job with less effort with smaller bricks... also the roof is flat. How they make that flat? And why go to the effort to make it flat ... question everything

Also doing all this for a bit of chert... all this effort ... wowww.. maybe we should be asking was these tunnels founded instead of being ... yes maybe they was dug out in 1700s, 1800s.... but it was a clearing of the tunnels not that they dug em themselves ... question everything
