Hoka Mach 5 Versus Saucony Endorphin Speed 3: Which versatile daily shoe should you go for?
Спорт
Picking a daily shoe for the bulk of your runs - if not all of them - is a big investment. You want something that can tick a lot of boxes, from slower miles to picking up the pace when the mood takes you. There aren't many daily shoe lines we've talked about as much as the Hoka Mach and the Saucony Endorphin Speed. But which do you go for?
The Hoka Mach 5 and the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 are two of the most versatile daily training shoes we've ever tried, with both being able to handle anything from comfy easy runs all the way up to race day.
Here, Tom and Nick discuss the pros and cons of each shoe, and which they'd both pick as their top choice.

As always nailed it. I agree with 100% everything it was said in this video. I have both myself and yes, both amazing daily trainers. If for whatever reason I have a workout or a pickup and don’t wanna bring another shoe I’m using my speed 3. The Mach 5 on my rotation is mostly Easy runs/ and long runs but on my mind I always have the option that if there is a progression/pickup on those it’s gonna get the job done.
Really appreciate this review! Wonderfull channel👍
I have both and love both. I go back and forth between the two for daily training and they are quite different but in good ways. If I want more of an easy-going pleasurable ride, it's the Mach 5. If I want to go a little faster with more energy, then it's the Speed 3. Can't go wrong with either and I've read and seen enough reviews that I decided I should get both for some variety in my daily runs.
Great comparison vid. Thanks Run Testers! I'm a big fan of the Mach 5 as a daily trainer. Still contemplating on a marathon race day shoe. Plated vs. Non-plated, speed vs comfort. What to do? I guess I'll watch yours and other videos for further consideration.
I'm enjoying my Mach 5 's! I'm still running in the the Speed V1 still since I bought several pairs. The Speed I prefer for races. The Mach I prefer for daily training though I can race in it. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for this comparison. The Mach 5 is on the way and, honestly, I think I’ll stick with my Speed 1&2 but do want to snag the Pro3!
Just love your reviews as always guys. Was just thinking in your verdict section, you might want to mention that if someone does has a tempo shoe in their rotation for example, then (as Tom mentioned) perhaps one might win over the other. I am noticing that you (and rightfully so) often mention if someone wants a more versatile shoe that can go from daily training to speedier work, then x ... but if you want solely the best in a category, then y ....So I'd remember to emphasize specific categories to not always overly bias the shoe that have more versatility (which we know, you think the Endorphin Speed 3 excels at! LOL ;-) . That said, you do often mention both (I'm not criticizing, just sharing thoughts.) You're definitely the best out there guys so thanks again (and I look a lot at your American reviewer competitors). Keep 'em coming.
Great review. I have just received my Speed 3, and can't wait to try it out.
Thanks for the great review guys. I am one who has issues with how narrow Hoka shoes are. There is no wide options for the Mach 5. However, IMHO, plated shoes are great but I would not use a plated shoe as a daily trainer. I like to feel my foot doing some of the work and continued use of plated shoes makes your foot lazy. Thanks.
Got both shoes . Love them both kind of different world of shoes.
Thanks for this. This is the 2nd comparison video on these have seen of late. Both you and the other mention the somewhat different drops in the specs but I don't recall you mentioning if it was actually a factor for you? I have tried a few Hoka shoes but felt, at least partially, the relatively low 5mm drop was not to my liking and they felt "flat" whereas the 8mm in the Speeds I am much more at ease with me. So been thinking of giving Hoka another go in the Mach 5 although your overall nod to the Speed perhaps means I am not missing a huge amount?
So many good shoes! I would love to see a Mach 5 vs Speed 3 vs Rebel v3 vs Novablast 3!

Me too! These are my lines, outside of the carbon plated shoes.
Great review. Hoping there will be a review after 6 months or 1 year to see the compression set test result -- related to bounce and return to its original form/shape. I was told that Emdorphin is using Pebax beads….which is 3 or 4x bouncier than adidas rTPU Boost beads. Thanks
They are slotted for the same market but really different shoes . I think they would be a great part of a training rotation together. I think there advantages to using a non-plated shoe until later in a training cycle for a race. I would use them for the same thing, just use the plated shoe later in the training cycle. Or when getting into higher miles. I think in the lower mileage letting me do more of the work adds benefits latter with increased benefits to the plated shoes.

Looking foward Asics Novablast 3 vs mach 5 review
I ran a half marathon at 1:44, first ever, wearing a hoka Mach 5. Mye feet were a little sore at the end of the run, something I hadnt experienced before. I like getting better at running and hoping to run more. I was wondering, for an average runner like myself, would it make a difference or benefit me to run a race in a carbon plated shoe like a Saucony endorphin pro?
Great review. Now if we can just get some decent color in the Speed
Just want to check - is there a reason your lower thirds are so pixelated? It's ok on a phone but when I'm watching on big screen TV it's very obvious. They are pixelated but also like they have a gaussian blur at the same time, which looks a bit odd. Love the channel, best reviews on youtube!
Could you downsize half a size to get a better fit in the speed?
@The Run Testers hey guys do you know if there’s any stores in the UK that assess your feet with a 3D machine like Athlete’s Foot do in other countries?
I've got a little over 100 miles on the Mach 5, and while I really love the ride, I'm surprised by the wear showing on the sole - a lot of tread is gone already, which is because that sole is all foam and hardly and no rubber, which makes it a very light shoe, but probably less durable and may not last long.
How about magic speed 2 vs endorfin speed 3? Same price shoes.
I find it bizarre how they both find both shoes to be nearly on par while I completely hated the feel and ride of the Mach and completely loved everything about the Speed.
Request you to compare Mach 5 & Puma Nitro Velocity 2
How does Mach 4/5 compare with velocity nitro 2?
Is mach 5 good for long run sessions 20km-30km distance? Or any other recommendations?
Does the Speed 3 have enough cushion for a comfortable marathon run?
Looking for a non carbon plated marathon shoe. Love my Speeds but decided to race in the Pro 3 and they trashed my quads where I actually had to run/walk to the finish. Which of these would be the better option for marathon distance in terms of comfort and speed. I’m 57, 145 lbs, and normally run in the 3:30-3:35 range.

I should clarify that I have Speed V1
The Mach 5 is much more similar to the Kinvara 13, flexible, low drop and soft cushioning (more than the K13). What put me off the Mach 5 is that durability is probably very low, and the shoe is too expensive for such a low life expectancy. The speed is incredibly resilient,ultra-durable continental rubber and really springy foam that never sags down. So from this perspective the high price is justified.
Thanks. I have a 10k race coming up, which should I wear: Speed 3 or Pro 2?! I'm undecided which I'm quicker in. Love the Speed 3 though, this is my daily trainer when I'm not on the trails.

I have the speed 2 and pro 2 and at the end of the day....the speed 2 is better for the long run as far as comfort goes. But the pro 2 does have that little extra at the expense of the comfort factor. Honestly I can turnover just as fast in the speeds in a 10k as I can the pro2. I still tend to wear the pro 2 because I figure.....hell I spent the money for a race shoe might as well wear it for a race. either way my pro 2 have been replaced by vaporflys as they are far more comfortable and to be honest just fit my foot better. sorry for the rambling comment 🤣🤣
which is better for a slower runner?
I recently tried on the Mach 5 and I didn’t like the flimsy tongue, and there was a massive amount of room in the toe box even when I went down half a size.
@i.p2088

I have wide feet.. In the toe box the upper was simply loose or the insole width was wide? Some models Hoka uses the same width shoe for normal and wide but just adds more materials to the upper.. This does not work for me.. I need to get a wider base for the foot (insole width) ❓
Great comparison, I have the Speed II and III. Speed III definitely wider 👍🏻. With Hoka I always order the Wide ↔️ fit. Mach 5️⃣ does not come in wide. I have wide feet 🙄. Will it fit 👀 ❓

I have the mach 4 and have wide feet, I cant run in them, too narrow and found it a very normal shoe, dont understand the hype, maybe because it hurts my toes. The 5 I am not sure if it is wider, so I probably would try at a store IF I would like to buy one, I prefer the Rincon 2 (the 3 says it is even better) anytime.

@@i.p2088 My rincon is not wide, is normal, is on my limit, could have a little more space but I can run, no problem, but the mach 4 is a lot worse, and both are same size
if you're doing a versus - pull the insole out from both shoes and show them back to back .. so we get an idea of the foot-shape and comparative forefoot width.
Saucony Speed 3 is my favorite running shoe. It can easily be used for everyday training or for racing.
Great review. What do you think life of the Mach vs Speed? Which would last longer?
@therangersinger
Жыл бұрын
if it helps at all I think it is still a relative comparison. I have logged 345 miles on my speed 2, which has the same rubber as the speed 3. That outsole is surprisingly tough. The powerrun Pb midsole is extremely resilient to breakdown. I have just started to notice a small difference as I broke the 300 mile mark but those Sauconys have at least another 200 miles on them before I retire them. I wouldn't waste your money on the Hoka. it's not even a legit comparison.

Looking forward to a Speed 3 Vs Novablast 3. On my 2nd pair of Speed 2 as I want a fast do it all shoe as can't really afford/justify a shoe rotation. I also do a lot of speed training. Looking forward to see if the Novablast is worth changing to especially on the basis of some of the early reviews I have seen.

Apologies. We do try to get back to questions but we all have day jobs and there's just too many to answer while giving adequate information to the audience. We have started including popular questions in the podcast each month as a way to get round to resolving many queries. the tri noosa 14 is great. it is great at just cruising around, very comfortable in every aspect and you can pick up the pace easily but the Saucony is a far faster shoe. both are very versatile shoes, Asics more comfy, Saucony more speedy.
@Tom More v4 when?
Not really a debate. the Saucony's are a far superior shoe in every aspect. build quality, overall durability, tread life and midsole lifespan. buy Hoka only if you love to get about 150 honest miles out of a shoe before the tread is gone, the midsole is dead and you just want some overpriced shoes that move to the "comfortable work shoe" pile. hola look cool though. and that's about it. I wore mine today to cut the grass. And they weren't even good for that 🤣🤣
Really there is no comparison. Hoka is not in the same league as Saucony.
