John Mayer Belief - lead and rhythm!!

i higly reccomend using economy picking (as john himself plays it) instead of alternating picking The reason is that, instead of going up and down, you follow the direction of the next string that you should play. For example, the first fournotes (strings A-D-G-D) shound be played D-D-U-D, way easier than D-U-D-U. It may be hard at first but it's the best and most natural way to play this wonderful song

Onto the topic using boost for clean sound, I find that too. I will go even further and set the sound to way, it breaks/crunches and then roll the volume on guitar down. To my ears that sounds better, the less boost from pedal with volume up. Also it plays nicer, as you get longer sustain, but still with good clean sound with no break-up ...

Sounds pretty good. Maybe a bit bassy if anything, but that could be just the voicing of the Fender amp. Maybe try covering Scar Tissue? I know John used a Fender amp for recording that, so you'd probably be able to get that tone spot on.

I am trying to replicate the sound, and I cannot do it. Is it my amp, or guitar preventing this? I have the BD2 pedal, but cannot replicate this sound.

Nice tone ! What kind of pick are you using?

Neil Young's distorted tone, specifically the one on Ramada Inn (though that isn't very different from his tone on Like A Hurricane, for example). Young uses an improbable and impossible to find selection of gear to get his tone, but no one is going to have that. So how do you get it using normal stuff?
