“Pointless minutia” The fun of being a Trek fan.
This is what I come here for. The videos no other Trek channels make. Bueno.

STAR TREK: THE FINAL FONTIER
Man, the fact that you opened this video addressing the "font" vs "typeface" thing right off the bat just confirms why I love this channel.

@@thod8820 lol, the last time I had a bunch of people at my house I hooked my tower up to my 4k TV so I could show everyone the joys of Firacode. I was a little drunk and getting really excited about ligatures, according to my wife...

What do we want! More fonts! When do we want it! .... ... Someday
Of all the things I've seen on KZread, this is probably the most original. A Star Trek video about fonts..... You're going to the top, kid!
Only you can make a font retrospective SEXY AF Junkball.
I can't believe I just watched an 8 minute video about fonts in Star Trek and was interested for every second of it
This video was pure awesomeness. Being interessted in graphic design and typography, this just made my heart melt. Thank you, Junkball!
I’ve been waiting for this my whole life fonts glorious fonts
Star Trek: Elbow Skin is so under-appreciated.

It's one of the symptoms of that common space STD known as "Disco Fever". But apart from those flaky elbows and an intermittent mild genital rash, I'm _loving_ having contracted it!
Your stuff is average great but this was more interesting than a font video has any right to be. The Insurrection "bland" joke made me laugh then cry lol. Keep it up man. I love how you find topics within Trek that I would've never even thought of learning about. Really good stuff!
This channel is still my therapy
This is the kind of detail I come to your channel for. I'd like to make some suggestions for future content, if I may: Miranda class therapy Uniform designs Communicators Phaser designs The Starfleet chevron insignia Non-canon ships, such as the USS Typhon Non-Starfleet ships, preferably Klingons to start with

Levi Skardsen good list. May I add end credits to your list?
Thanks, after 25 years wondering what's going on with the random use of fonts this finally wraps it up.
Hurray! Just for having a font-geek video about Star Trek, or a Star Trek fan video about fonts, you deserve a huge thanks. Hurray!
This channel is truly a watery bowl of knowledge.
The most honest and accurate subtitle for Episode IX yet!

Your channel is one of the reasons I love the Internet.
I'm a huge geek for font and logo design. Your subscribe gag was the best I've seen for any video on youtube. And the subtle jokes about Insurrection and Discovery are perfect easter eggs for fans. I think you made this video very entertaining.
This just reminds me of the futurama joke where Calculer turns down a scrip after less than a second with "nooooo, I don't like the font'
@1:37 "Star Wars: Attempt to undo the Last Jedi" Well played, sir.
It's a good day when Junkball gives us some stuff
A joy to watch for all those type spotters out there, myself included. The Galaxy font was a particularly distinctive and elegant design. Has anyone else noticed the similarity to the typeface used by Etihad Airways?

Just watched the new opening, 15 times. Thanks J-Ball M300
The new Junkball intro is stellar! But you already knew that.
I don't know why I watched this, or why you made it. But I'm glad it exists. Thank you.
Never before have two of my interests merged so seamlessly. Thanks!
The ST:D font appears to match the Raleway family, specifically Raleway Heavy/Black.

I'm still trying to chase the high I felt when, at 12 years old, I discovered that Crillee, the TNG credits font, CAME WITH WINDOWS.
This was glorious
A nice overview. A small thing: the font used on 2001's poster (and virtually everything Kubrick did) is Futura by Paul Renner. Serif Gothic was designed by Herb Lubalin, who loosely based it on Avant Garde (which he also designed), which probably took some inspiration from Futura. So ... maybe there's a tiny link there. Serif Gothic is tricky because it has a lot of alternate characters: cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/2435428/itc_image_2.0.jpg

I THOUGHT it looked like Futura!!
My excitement about this video made me face some hard truths about my level of nerdiness. Anyway, this is great, i have always been curious about Trek fonts but didn't think i'd ever get this kind of info. Thank you!
Thanks. Quite awesome. Interestingly, in the original Franz Joseph "Star Trek Tech Manual" they say the hull font IS Microgramma extended (even though in the TOS it's not). The hull numbers from TMP onward is Microgramma Bold Extended.
As a typehead I loved this video. Nice work sir.
I believe "The Cage" title font is Annonce, and the TOS "next voyage" trailer font is Ad Lib.
I can count the times on one hand that I have heard the word minutia used, very nice!
“Pointless minutiae” how dare you?! Fonts are EVERYTHING! Amazing video.
This is a happy Tuesday because of you Junkball guy!!! Thank you for this video. Keep going my friend where no KZread channel has gone before...
I burst out laughing at the "Go to hell"
I love how I just got into star trek and I am watching this.
Dork. Jk I'm a graphic designer so this video is up my alley. Most people don't understand the importance of typeface, especially when conveying a message or establishing a brand.
I love Star Trek and majored in graphic design in college. So this vidio was a win win.... yay!
I'm twisted in knots wondering what the font licensing fee was to make Sisko a baseball jersey. Not even joking.
That is not what we wanted, but it surely is what we needed.
This is incredibly specific and very well done.
You've got a great rhythm going right now Junkball, keep it up
If I didn't want pointless minutiae I would not be watching this channel. Keep it coming!
Best Trek channel. Thanks for the great content.
Now I can sleep at night. Thank you Junkball.
The opening credit sequence was off the hook!!!
Brilliant, comprehensive video on something which is very rarely talked about. Thanks. xx
"Elbow Skin" I'm dying
LOVE IT! And Thanks for only scraping DIS.
As a graphic designer who is also a Trek fan, I loved this video, thanks! :)
I love this - thanks, Junkball!
Excellent, awesome video!! 👍This is my niche! 😻😻😻 Fun fact: Microgramma is also known as Eurostile. Eurostile Bold Extended comes up a lot throughout Trek and scifi. As far as pronunciation, Benguiat is pronounced BEN-gat, named after its prolific designer Ed Benguiat (who created many famous, well-known logos and over 600 typefaces, and currently age 91!); also Handel is pronounced just like a door handle and named for its designer as well. 😽Would love to see you go into more detail when you make one of these about the layouts, color schemes and evolution of the LCARS UI. 🙏(which is pronounced EL-cars, btw). Really enjoyed this video in particular; I love to binge on your content. Thanks for making, live long and prosper. 🖖

On the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation pinball machine from Williams, all of the score displays and such on the backbox dot-matrix display were styled like LCARS, with the same tall sans-serif font. It really helped pull the player into the atmosphere of the TV show.
I didn’t know there was so much to the fonts of Star Trek... Or, fonts in general, I suppose. Thanks for another informative and enlightening video, sir!
Brilliant stuff! This'll get several re-watches!
"Looks like elbow skin", hahahahahaha, ohhhh, love your commentary
I love this. Thought I was the only Trek font junkie :) And I love the "elbow skin" swipe at Discotrash.
Fun fact: the TOS episode "Spectre of the Gun" used the TOS font for the Sheriff's office sign.
This may be why I've always been a fan of Gothic typefaces.
A rabbit hole of pointless minutiae describes we star trek fans perfectly. Gets us through trying times
Your pronunciation of the word "used" is very unique. Great segment as always!
One, hell yeah, I'm all about typography. Two, awesome new intro.
This was so awesome
I love the new intro dude, kinda reminds me of Thor: Ragnarok with the colors.
That was great! Keep picking at this stuff.
I know nothing about typefaces but I do know a few graphic designers. If anyone in that profession watches this get ready to be nitpicked and berated beyond your wildest imagination. They fucking LOVE their fonts, and they will fight someone who gets anything wrong.
1:40 "attempt to undo the last jedi" XD, but for real that is true
I found this to be a font of knowledge!
The original movies, with the Galaxy font were my favorites. 🖖😀
Who else here gets excited when they hear the Junkball theme song???
Nice video. I think it’s interesting that that variations on the TOS font continue to come back around, and the same for variations on the TMP “galaxy” font. They are both rather iconic to Star Trek. And yet, the TNG title font, oddly enough, so far has never returned for either “Picard” or the TNG movies. In fact, Discovery and “Picard” are both using the TOS font (or a play on the TOS font). Interesting.
It never felt so great to win nothing like today! Thanks
LOVE this video!!!
great quality content!
I remember using versions of the "Star Trek" TrueType fonts in my Microsoft Publisher and Aldus/Adobe PageMaker days when I only used Windows.
Cardassian computers use the Apple font Chicago found on MacOS in the 90s.
Fascinating
Absolutely fascinating, we want more!🌺💖🚀
Benguiat -- /ben-ghee-aht/ -- From font designer Ed Benguiat. He also designed Avant Garde Gothic and a lot of other great 70's fonts. -- And yes, Stranger Things is awesome. Microgramma and Eurostile are related companion fonts, same designer and foundry.
Nice video! Great humor!
My heart fancies you.
I loved this video! Thanks again!
minutiae is all that matters my friend. Love Junkball!
Best trek video ever
Great video, though it's a shame you didn't do more to research that Discovery credits font, and I was also hoping to see coverage of the main fonts used _in_ series, like that Helvetica-ish one on TOS consoles (like their chronometer in the naked time) and the occasional door sign, the LCARS/door sign font on TNG/VOY, the Cardassian English font from DS9 computers, the computer fonts used in ENT and DIS, etc. Perhaps that's enough material for a part two?
I loved this! Could you do another on the in universe fonts (ship registries, etc.)?
Getting in there before "Typeset in the Future" does an article on Star Trek, huh? Bravo! Oh wait, the guy who runs that blog published a book just a few months ago? And that book features an article on Star Trek typefaces, with a Mike Okuda interview too? Well I've not got my hands on a copy, so I won't judge... ;)
Quality content!
You forgot the font used in The Cage
