I’d like to add to your point about boarded up windows. There was a tax on how many windows people had in their homes, so yes they did board them up to save money...and that is where the phrase “daylight robbery” comes from.

Hi J007z, another great video! Anyway, where do MI5 go to fix their cars? Unsurprisingly, they don't just take them to the nearest KwikFit, they have a specialised team of mechanics who service them, 'supe' them up and add surveillance kit etc. Up until the 1970s, there was an MI5 garage doing such work in a road just off St John's Road in Clapham Junction, just behind where Marks and Spencer is today. This location did not stay a closely guarded secret, however. Surveillance teams discovered that the premises were being monitored by Russian KGB spies, so MI5 decided to up sticks and moved the garage to Streatham High Street - before that was also discovered. It is now located ‘somewhere in west London’. So J007z if you choose to accept, can you find that DB5!

You could have turned that mention of window tax into a Blackadder reference (3.1.4). The Queen is descended from Richard III's brother, Edward IV (though Baldrick made a documentary claiming that Eddie was not his nominal father's son, and so...).

Jeremy Bentham is still housed in a closet and brought out for meetings, right? They preserved him... I just googled, at the entrance of University College London. I was a Criminal Justice student studied in London 1983...and remember going to Pentonville Prison where the prison is set up like you discussed. Hub with guards and spokes (hallways) of cells so guards could watch inmates. I miss London. Pray I return next year. Hope I see you on one of your walks, or at a pub... Cheers.

Bligh was also the Governor of the colony of New South Wales. The officers who ran the 'Rum Corp' mutinied when he tried to curtail their business of making and selling rum. He hated the Catholic Irish and had a gentleman Irishman ,who took up arms against British rule in Ireland, and was exiled to the colony ,arrested and transported in chains to Hobart Town. The only problem was the Governor of Tasmania was a mate and freed him almost as soon as he got off the boat. New South Wales was Bligh's last government appointment.

Fun fact, the lady who did public relations for a company I work for was responsible for Archer going to prison. She persuaded Ted Francis to come forward with his evidence of perjury. This was because Archer had ripped off the boss of our company. I don't want to say anymore for fear of identifying the persons involved. I lived through it and was close friends with the PR lady.

In America they have the FBI and the CIA. The FBI is for internal matters and the CIA is for foreign matters outside the USA. In the U.K. MI5 is for domestic or internal matters and MI6 is for external or foreign affairs. Thats why Bond/007 is MI6.

Henry 2nd 1189 died at Chinon Castle France, his sons Richard 1 and John etc . When he was dying he was attended by his Illegitimate sons. These have been more to me as my sons. The others are the real Bs. Fontevraud Abbey France has the wooden effigy’s of Henry 2nd his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, son Richard 1. No bodies, apparently they were destroyed in the French revolution. A good few years ago, SIS/MI6 building nearby was Tintagel House, Met Police building, down the road HQ of London Fire Brigade. A motorcycle shop facing SIS, used to have a sign, 10% off for Firemen, Police and Spies.

Personally, I feel that Queen Elizabeth was right to avoid Richard III funeral. The legitimacy of his reign is too dubious. The probability is that he was behind the murder of the princes and that should never be rewarded. A basic Christian burial was appropriate and nothing more. Thank you for an amazing video. You are brightening my life at this time! I am catching up with the early installments and not leaving comments on the older ones because they could be tiresome, but I am really enjoying them!

Although Shakespeare wrote an enormously good play about Richard III the history is not totally accurate. In the many centuries since there is a good deal of evidence that Richard was not an usurper. In fact Parliament confirmed his right to the throne. Another coincidence, Bishop Stillington, who revealed King Edward’s pre-contract to Eleanor Talbot was also arrested with George of Clarence who was subsequently executed, presumably through the insistence of Elizabeth Woodville. At the time, altho speculation on the fate of the princes Edward and Richard was rife, there is an intriguing report that they were done away with by the Duke of Buckingham by the ‘vice’ of Margaret Beaufort. Remember that at the time Richard was in the North but Buckingham went back to London. And the Constable of the Tower at that time, Robert Brackenbury, actually fought and died for Richard at Bosworth. There’s much more to the story which is fascinating. I’ve been accumulating information on Richard since 1963 and altho I can still enjoy the play for its many dramatic techniques, including the monologues addressed directly to the audience, I never confuse it with accurate history.

My dad also failed. He went to Cambridge and was recommend by a lecturer. The trains weren't running he had to borrow someone's car, and had to cane it to get there on time. After the Cambridge spy ring was discovered they realised the recruiting from Oxbridge exclusively was a bad idea..
