Ойын-сауық

After Chicago's "Great Fire" the city needed lumber to rebuild . . . lots of it, and they found that lumber in a small town in west central Michigan: Hersey.

Oh Evan it's like being on a different planet! It is really quite amazing how different our country is from one locale to another, especially going from urban to rural. Still a lot of history in almost every place you look.

Thank you so much. It is kind of nice to be doing some of these more rural location shoots for a change. I loved the historic sites in the eastern cities and all of the statues and monuments, but videoing in such a heavily populated area is exhausting after a few years, Doing the more secluded places now seems very peaceful.

Thank you so much! This is one of those points of history that often get overlooked while trying to absorb all of the major events in our history. So glad you enjoyed this one.

My cousin's family the Finkbeiner helped build the town. Also Eichenberg family there was a 3rd family but can't remember the name. The 3 families came over from Black Forest Germany... and before that the 3 families originated in Austria.

Good to see you out and about! This is a very interesting story of the village there on the Muskegon River and Hersey River. I looked up that area of Michigan, very interesting! Google maps has some photos of other areas of the village, including some 360 degree and navigation type shots in several village streets. Looking forward to any other outdoor views you can bring us in that area, at least before the heavy snows set-in, around January. Stay well stay happy!

It's always difficult to decide what views to shoot and which to leave out. Fortunately Google Street View is an excellent tool for those that really are interested enough to seek more. So I am so glad this sparked that interest for you! We've got another one about two hours drive from this one that tells another interesting story of the time. Hope to get that one made soon. Thanks!

Welcome back to Michigan! Great story as always. You have a knack for telling engaging stories with a good amount of detail and still maintaining a relaxed and conversational tone. Btw, I had to commercials Midway through the video so I hope you're making some sweet sweet KZread money👌

Thank you so very, very much. I always try to tell the story, and not just lecture on the facts and dates. Sometimes that works, other times not as well. I like to believe that if we can put a thing or a place or a person in perspective about the events that are happening at the time that it will be not only more interesting but therefore also more memorable.
