    I just found your channel tonight, and I am glad I did. The couple videos I have watched so far feel like I am just sitting in a room and chatting with a friend. I am subbed and will definitely be watching more videos. Thank you.

    So glad you're here. The discovery process of finding a new channel that is enjoyable is no small task, as I have been through that just like everyone. I am glad to hear you find our style conversational. That is largely what I have always tried to make it, and sometimes I even succeed. So welcome and IO hope you find lots of things on the channel to enjoy. Paul

    LOL! Thanks Robyn. I think that the clowning around is largely responsible for us making it through nearly four decades together. I am so glad to hear you watched the whole thing. We typically save the funnier or lighter side for later in videos, when we do include any.

    Ah the joy of turning leaves, garden waste and kitchen scraps into rich black soil. Even our coffee grounds and used tea leaves went into the pile along with Grandpas cigar ashes.

    Yep, essentially everything organic is returned to the soil from whence it came, and yes that includes the wood ashes from the stove in the winter. All of the mass of weeds we pull from the garden are also composted and returned to the soil.

    Hi - been really busy of late so just catching up on your vids. That's a mighty fine gardening table. I can't compare to anything you have over there. Not even attempted to grow anything, the dogs would trample all over them or worse, dig them up. Only thing I have have managed to harvest this year is a big box of cooking apples, a freezer full of blackberries and a pear....yes, that's right ONE PEAR Not sure what's going on there, trees been there for 3 years now - guess you've got to start somewhere. Best wishes from the UK Bev and Paul - hope you're staying safe.

    Hey, good to hear from you! It actually has been sort of a weird year for the garden, with most things coming in VERY late. We in fact just came in from harvesting tomatoes, because there is more frost on its way. Still, the garden has been VERY productive!

    We love them as well, but it often seems like they are a little pricey in the store, so this year we grew our own, and quite a lot of them at that.

    Hi! Your garden looks so beautiful!! My garden is suffering from hail damage. I only have a couple of tomatoes that survived, and we lost several other things as well. I bet our goats would love the greens! Love you!

    Thank you Christina! We have worked hard to keep the weeds at bay this year, and it is probably the best we have ever done. Yes, I suspect the goats would have loved the greens, as would have our chickens if we still had them, but alas this year it is not to be. Sorry to hear of the hail damage to your garden. The bane of our existence has been deer and rabbits. But largely there have still been lots of prolific successes. Love you too kiddo.

    Nice garden! The video is somehow very calming watching you doing the gardening :) I always thought that greens become soggy after being frozen. What and how do you preserve as greens?

  • @Realunitedstates

    @Realunitedstates

    4 жыл бұрын

    We only preserve the young greens from early in the season. Yes, they get soggy after freezing, but that isn't really a problem to us anyway. We just blanch, shock, and freeze them in freezer bags.

    Those turnips look great! Was that a PBS victory garden inspired opener and theme at the beginning? It felt like maybe it was but I have only whispers of the memories of that show at this point. But the opening felt very nostalgic to me no matter what you were aiming for. Wise man keeping the cold water away from a lady with a knife in hand! Hope the canning all went smoothly, that was an impressive amount of turnips you started with :) Hope your week is off to a good start :)

  • @Realunitedstates

    @Realunitedstates

    No, not a PBS inspired opener, but I'm glad it may have looked that way. Occasionally I like to just try something new in a video to see how, or if, it works. And yes, it's never a good idea to spray icy water on someone holding a large weapon! LOL! The canning when fine; in fact probably better than normal. It did turn out to be something more on the order of ten or eleven quarts of turnip, so we froze the remainder.
