But then you realize, the hermit post office is only open for about 1/4 of a regular business day, so you need the hermit office to be open 4 days to be a regular business day, which makes it 4 weeks for once business day, multiply that by 7 and 28 days are needed for one business week, so then 56 days must pass before that violation comes in effect.

One thing you might want to consider Mumbo is that most trees actually have quite a lot of air in them. If you look at Bdubs's forest, you'll see that his trees aren't filled in completely with leaves, but have pockets of air. That may help to keep your forest looking a bit more leafy and realistic.

The forest looks really good! Some tips that may help improve the busy-ness you mentioned: -Leave some gaps in the leaves so that the trunks are more visible through the leaves -Place fewer leaves and leave air gaps as much as possible so that the canopy doesn't look as solid -Use azalea leaves towards the top of the tree and mangrove towards to bottom to get a gradient effect which also looks like sunlight hitting the tops of the trees. Also, mixing in additional leaf types to make this gradient transition even smoother Again, I think the forest looks really good and I'm so happy you went for the grey trunks. Great job!

It's kinda funny to me that you took inspiration from a forest with mostly european red pine and then made trees that have a leaf crown (actually needles for both trees) looking much more like a european spruce 😄 Not saying the trees look bad, just amused. Also the reason the canopy is so flat and the trees so knobbly is the fact the pine are acclimated to very arid terrain. Remember all that sand? And so they're very economical with how they grow. They shed all but the branches that can have needles in direct sunlight so they have maximum photosynthesis with minimum evaporation. This can result in some really funny stuff though. I've seen a pine that had a "branch" as thick as a small tree growing to the side at a 90 degree angle for a few metres because there happened to be a hole in the canopy of the small copse of trees it was growing in.

Hey, also a forestry major here. Oftentimes, the forests that are at the stage where all trees have low live crown ratios are not growing much more in height. It's actually more because when they're packed in so much, their lower leaves don't receive enough sunlight. It puts the trees under stress, so they direct their energy more towards growing the leaves they can afford (ones that will receive sunlight and will be worth investing energy into growing and maintaining) and towards cellular respiration (basic survival needs) and wait for release (death of a neighbouring tree).

i audibly gasped when i saw that tree design in creative. i’m taken back to s7 when you went to scar for help with building a tree and it’s just incredible to see how much you’ve improved since then. it’s been said so many times but i’ll say it again, seeing your building improve over the episodes and seeing you share the process has just been so much fun. it’s so amazing to see the development of the “mumbo style” and how it changed from older hermitcraft bases that were very symmetrical to trees like this that are just so organic and natural and the usage of gradients is just so incredible. i cannot wait to see what you do next ❤

Mumbo, you should make the ground under the trees out of sand, make the boulders out of granite + terracotta, and use packed mud around the boulders to transition to the sand! I think that could look really nice with the trees, and hopefully add some more contrast with the cliffside. :D

Fun fact about the trees with bark around the base and nothing at the top. In Australia we have similar trees called half butt eucalyptus, and they have thick bark around the base of the tree primarily to protect from fire. Once the tree gets to a certain height there is no more need for fire protection, so they’re able to put more energy into growing. I’d wager a similar cause for why there’s no leaves until you reach the top of the tree. They likely put all of their energy to growing with their leaves at the tops of the canopy that way they have the best access to sunlight in tight knit forests.

Hey Mumbo. This last month and a bit I have been itching to play Minecraft again thanks to you. I got a server, organised a few of my friends to play and set up a date for server launch. I prepared a small server event and even just a nice landing area for everyone. After about 2 weeks of planning and effort in between my normal job, everyone suddenly had excuses. I spent the day playing alone and just thought about how lucky you are to have a group like the hermits. I know you probably know. I really just want to say thank you though, because after a really disapointing day, I just watched a bit of your Hermitcraft videos and I felt better. You change many lives. Thanks for who you are.
