Scottie I had a 2004 Rav4 and it ran 335,000 until original clutch went out everywhere I went said it was going to be $3,700 to replace the part was only couple hundred but labor was going to be $3,330 or higher had to take engine out to get to clutch and replace it? Lov your auto shows even though i cannot even change oil on car??? lol thanks

Another alternative if you want a low-end 90's sports coupe is the 95-99 Nissan 200SX. A lot of them are 5-speeds. They're cheap, the engines are usually good and the supply of parts at the self-service wrecking yards is decent. I got on to this production when I recently bought a '96 Nissan Sentra GXE dirt cheap a couple months ago. It's a GXE, man. The 200SX is a Sentra with two doors and maybe a couple of sports features. It could compete with the Celica or the Chevy Cav as low-end project car.

@@kaydensrailway5594 Mine Sentra GXE is in the wrecking yard now. The transmission was starting to go out and I put in the state vehicle retirement program for $1500. I hope you're talking about the Nissan 200SX 5sp as the dream-mobile. For a project car, I think either a Celica or a Cavalier would be a better choice. The Celica has high reliability and Cav has a lot of aftermarket stuff available, both mechanical and dress-up. As always, if you need to ask, you can't afford it.

Scotty, I certainly appreciate the fact that others feel the same way about their Celica as you and I do. I happen to own a white 1999 Celica GT with the more powerful 2.2 liter dual overhead cam engine, that looks identical to yours. I bought it for my daughter years ago and inherited it when she struck out to make her own life happen. I've been driving it ever since...and as far as parts and repair...I have only replaced the timing belt and water pump assembly twice in 237,000 miles, along with tires, of course. I also, for fun, bought and installed springs and struts to lower the car to make it look really cool!! I certainly expect to drive it for another 10 years...and I love my little baby!! I'm as old as dirt,, as you are and when I'm driving it, even the young guys stare and point at my Celica...cause they love the sporty looks...well also maybe because my hair is as white as my Celica is!! I love Celicas so much that l also bought a 1997 Celica convertible...and drive it with the top down when I'm trying to impress the babes!! Thanks so much for this video. Regards, Bill

My Celica was the best car I ever owned. Oil changes, new tires, 1 new battery, and I replaced the spark plugs a few times; that's it. It was 12 years old when I bought it and it had 280k miles on it the day my husband totalled it, and it ran like the day it came off the assembly line. ...I still miss that car. 😔

I bought a 95 celica with 250k on it for $700. I normally wouldn't buy anything with that many miles but scotty obsessing about them convinced me. Its at 270+k now and still runs great. The only thing wrong with it was the fuel gauge didn't work because the floating bar thing in the tank was rusted stuck from where it had been parked for so long with no gas in it

The old Toyotas were brilliant. A guy in new Zealand clocked 2 million kilometres on a 1993 corolla a little while ago. And you would be amazed how original the car still is. Very little needed to be replaced at all. Just the general maintenance, ,,and all wheel bearings were changed. Amazing!

Wow this is great!! As a 16 yr old High School Junior, the Toyota Celica was my dream car. Well the Supra was, but the Celica was more attainable. I absolutely fell in love with 4 beautiful headlights staring back at me. I miss the 90s and the age of the Japanese sports cars like the Celica, Eclipse, 240 SX, Supra, 3000 GT, 300 ZX etc....

I feel like Scotty’s Celica is going to end up in the Larz Anderson car museum, at some point.

I bought one of these, same color in all. I love it! I had to pull off the nut on the harmonic balancer to replace the timing chain. Man was it tight and I had no special tools. I put a socket on a breaker bar, wedged the B bar into a location in the suspension, tied it in place with cable ties and flicked the starter motor. JOBS DONE!

im almost 100% positive that scotty says this in his sleep. Im surprised that this wasn't his first video.

Ive had two 7th gen celicas and they are also really dependable. The 2zzge engines only blow up if you pull more than 1g around a corner. Theres a fix for them too if you buy a morosso oil pan with wastegates and 1 more quart capacity but those cost like 500 dollars. All celicas are great, some more than others but still amazing.

I think Scotty is trying to inflate the value of the celica so that he can sell his on eBay. *edit: so he can buy a BMW M5 V10.

I tried several times over the years to get this generation of Celica (I liked the styling, reliability and sportiness), but there was always something seriously wrong with the ones I checked out, like a clutch starting to fail. Several years later, I ended up with a Scion tC, which is so close to a Celica that it might as well be one. I would not trade it for a BMW, unless the BMW was worth enough to flip it and buy another reliable fun car at a moderate price. The tC was inexpensive even brand new, but I don't know if there's a reliable, moderately priced car in this class made now.

I just got 95 GT convertible celica. LORD willing it will be a excellent little car. Great deal an I needed it honestly, HUGE blessing right now. Nice video Scotty❤

My mate had an '89 Camry wagon 2.2 litre, 5 speed manual with over 500,000 km's on it - original engine and gearbox. That thing was bullet proof!

320k miles on my 94 ST coupe. I put rings in it at 300k, didn't need them. But I wanted to freshen it up. And I just put a transmission in it this year. 3rd gear synchro came apart. $150 for a used trans from a scrap yard. And a few hours with my buddy. Car is awesome. Fuel efficient. Reliable.

Scotty! I love your videos. Happy to run across this one about your 94 Celica! I have a 97 convertible model and I love it so much! Great for summer fun. So happy that you think these cars might be the best car ever made!

@P. Spit 1. You can't drive a salvage car legally. You would need to repair it first and have it inspected by the government. 2. A rebuilt salvage title should still have the same liability only insurance rate.

I had an 82 Accord hatchback back in college in the 90s. I cut a stick to length to hold up the hatch. Worked great. I also found some louvres in a junkyard that turned out to be awesome for keeping heat and ice from the back window. This was important because the air conditioner made the horsepower go from 75 to 10 when you turned it on.

I just acquired one of these cars for a days work. I was going to sell it.. then i drove it.. and in a way, scottys right, it's one of the best cars ever considering all factors. Now it's my favorite car ive ever had. You'd have to drive one to see

Who has followed Scotty for years? I remember his first videos and what a transformation he has done to his channel. Videos everyday I mean he is better than all those stupid kids driving/ fixing Lambos, Bentleys etc I will continue to watch your videos Scotty keep going!

always wondered about the specs and condition of your '94 celica and what maintenance you had carried out over the years. this video answered those questions. never sell your celica. it has been a great car in your able hands and im sure you will be able to get more miles from it.

Many years ago when I was young and reckless I had a 2 litre 1986 Twin cam SX Celica. What a great car it was!

I bought a 98 as my daily thanks to Scotty, car runs like new and still feels tight as a drum. A good all round bargain buy that was made during Toyota's bomb proof years. Love the Celica!

The 2zz engine was cool. The Lotus Elise/Exige, and the Toyota Matrix XRS have the 2zz engine. Both models typically have no reliability issues.😤

I think it's a matter of relativity. They did have some issues with catalytic converters which could lead to catastrophic failure. It was also somewhat of a mistiming of a motor. It was a decent competitor to a b series that was released and was quickly overshadowed by the k-series. As far as legendary Toyotas for longevity I think the '90s Camrys and Corollas probably earn some of the top spots ever. I don't think the ZZ engines would be on anyone's top 10.

@@jinxtacy I have a base 2006 Matrix, 1ZZ-FE 1.8L 4 cylinder, it's great, I'm very confident in it, because it's still a baby with just 150K miles, and I've seen 4 on Craigslist with 700,000 km, up here in Canada. Bulletproof. My mechanic friend only sold his 440,000 km 03 Corolla because he got bored of owning a car that never needed fixing. That really shows the indestructibility of old Corolla. Anything made post-2020, is NEVER going to be able to do that.

People are sending you brake discs, seat covers and headlights, but no one has sent you door struts? Someone needs to fix this!

I had an 84 celica GTS with the 22RE. I put 190k on it. Got it new, had it 11 years. Fricken awesome car! I should have never sold it! 😢

I had a '95 Celica, GT, with a 5-Speed Manual Transmission, and a powered Moon-Roof. Should never have let that one go; people don't value vehicles like I do...

This video has become my favourite since I bought a 1996 1.8 grey Toyota Celica an hour ago.

Toyota and Honda have been rivals for a long time and it shows. This car looks like the 1994-01 Acura Integra. Compare this to the 1994 170 hp Integra GSR and it's no comparison. I have 353k on mine and it still runs perfect.

I've got a 2000 Celica. 150k miles, I keep it tuned up and the engine is still running great. Not burning any oil, I bring it up to 8k rpm frequently. Still no problems

Awesome. I just bought a 140K mile 01' GT-S last week. Scotty scared me away from them, but honestly talking to the Celica community, I think his worries about it are pretty over blown. Those babies go at least to 350K if you really take care of them which I'm planning on doing. The best part is you get a crazy high revving fast fun car that's still very reliable! Really love my Celica.

@@rushnerd I already sold my Celica, miss it every day. Honestly the most fun car I've ever had. Not the fastest, but a lot of fun. As long as there isn't much rust you are fine. Mine rusted out at around 200,000. Engine still ran like new
