    Larger and larger profit margins means the value of what you get is less and less. So your value is worse, car could be better but value is worse, this encompasses all manufacturers.

    @andrewj29904 жыл бұрын

    I come from a GM family and have owned 6 GM vehicles myself. What made me run from them was the Cruze. I purchased the 2016 Cruze LT brand new. From the very beginning, the vehicle would jerk forward constantly while at a red light as if I was on the gas. After 5 visits to the dealer with them finding nothing wrong, a mechanic came out from the shop who wasn’t even working on my car and told me that he has the same exact car with the same issue. He said that he has been trying to fix the issue in his own car and he couldn’t figure it out. When he would ask within the company about the issue, he basically got the feedback that GM decided that it would cost too much to look into the issue so they were just ignoring it. Seems like a pretty unsafe issue to just ignore! The actual solution I was given was that when the car would try to go forward when I was stopped at a light with my foot on the brake, I was told to put the car in neutral. After giving up on that issue, the next thing to happen was my water pump went out at 17,000 miles. Thankfully that was covered under warranty. At around 37,000 miles, i was driving right by the Chevy dealer when the engine went haywire and started throwing lights up on the dash. Since I was right by the dealer, I was able to coast right to their lot and park. The service department told me that the intake manifold separated from the motor and there was the potential for debris being in the motor. I was told that none of the repair would be covered under warranty. That seemed ridiculous to me so I contacted corporate which got me absolutely nowhere. I was thrown into a revolving door of transfers and no one returning my messages. Email didn’t do a thing either. I asked the service manager what the absolute least could be done to get the check engine light off and he quoted me $270 after continually telling me that there really was thousands of dollars of work that should be done to make sure the motor wasn’t compromised. I laughed at him and explained that I only needed the car to go as far as the Honda dealership down the street because I was done with GM. I ended up buying a used Honda Accord which has turned out to be a MUCH better car than any Chevy I’ve ever owned. I also took Scotty’s advice from the best used cars to buy video and got my wife a 2011 Toyota Camry. I am NEVER going back to American made vehicles.

    I've had my 2003 VW GTI VR6 for 18 years now, and it has been the most reliable car me, or my family has ever owned by far (even more reliable than Japanese cars we've had over the decades)! The only issue was an engine cooling fan that crapped out recently, to the tune of about $400 repaired. No other issues. Then again, it's a 6-speed manual sealed transmission, and the 24v second gen VR6 engine is considered one of the best, with much better, beefier, longer lasting chain tensioners. Maybe I got lucky?

They're generally very reliable, even if the styling and features are a bit dated, but if I only had $3000 to spend on a car that I needed to get me back and forth to work every day, I'd go look for a Camry or Civic. I love the fun, sporty cars, but not as my sole transportation. For that, I want something that's basically bulletproof mechanically.

    Volkswagens are the most popular used cars in Europe. The Up, Fox, Lupo, Polo, Golf and Jetta are a favourite first car for every European because European Volkswagens are solid and won't die no matter how hard you try. We used to have a Euro Volkswagen Tiguan built in Spain and we never had a problem, then we bought the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace (which is the standard US Tiguan) which was built in Mexico and it's been recalled twice in a year. Yeah, I think the duration any given car lasts comes down to about 5% luck, 25% driving style, 45% maintenance routine, and 25% manufacturer quality. Literally everything is loaded to the intake with electronics these days, so that's not a good separator, and people tend to both drive their vehicles hard while also generally neglecting regular maintenance. I do agree that some tech is just bad, like the CVTs in newer Nissans or Hyundais rusting out for no apparent reason. At the same time, however, Toyota and Honda don't really make large cars, so if that's what you're in the market for you're kind of stuck. That said, car sales are down across the board because people are buying more SUVs and trucks. Out of the 5 post 2000 model year cars my family members have had (1 Dodge, 1 Hyundai, 3 Nissans) only the Dodge went ~230,000 miles before it needed serious work (engine and later a tranny). The Hyundai started rusting out after 6 years, and all 3 Nissans had either transmission, engine, or suspension problems within 4 years of their release. If I was going to buy a pickup I'd probably go with a Toyota, but I don't expect to ever buy a Hyundai or Nissan and don't recommend them. I currently own a 2018 300 limited and @ ~38k miles I don't have any complaints yet, and short of getting hit I don't really expect that to change.

The car worked greatly with no issues for just over 4 years, but the first thing to go qrong essentially killed the car... was told by three different parties to trade it in rather than even give me a quote for the repair. Based on the recommendations from some other family and friends, as well as my own research through watching videos like these, I will be getting a 2016 Honda Accord with 35k miles tomorrow, which our mechanic of over 30 years gave a double thumbs up.

    I had an 06 PT Cruiser. Not a fun vehicle. Had 120k miles when we got it. Three months in the head gasket blew, constant electrical problems, and a transmission going out. After all the electronics stayed on whenever the parking brake was pulled, it got sold and replaced with a 95 corolla. Comfortable vehicle, but my god, the first job I did on it was a thermostat that stripped and refused to rethread. Took 8 hours to get a thermostat replaced. Most shops around here will not work on them.

    Got myself a 2012 Toyota Camry XLE the other week. Been watching a bunch of these videos to make a decision. I owned a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE V6 previously and loved it. So I was probably gonna go with another Camry, but I decided to check out other brands - no luck so I stuck with Toyota. Love this guys channel. Super informative!

    The biggest hex ever put onto my life was buying an automatic transmission PT Cruiser. I swear maintaining that vehicle was more expensive than raising a child. Just endlessly flushing money down the toilet for that thing

    That’s hilarious! I’ve got a 2005 and since it was paid off in 2015 it seems everything went sideways. Feels like I’m paying for the car twice with all the pesky stuff that keeps happening. In the last five months I’ve already spent $3000 if not more on work. Replaced thermostat after light kept coming on, then when I got AC fixed light came back on and I was told by dealership that I need $6300 in repairs including a new radiator. Got radiator replaced two weeks ago and then find that, after my oil change, the antifreeze reservoir is bone dry unbeknownst to me. Now I’m trying to figure out where leak is coming from. In the meantime in order to pass inspection last week I had to replace tire rods, rotors and pads😩😩😩😳😳😳. I feel cheated because all the money put into it could have gone towards another used car purchase. It’s my sole transportation but if it does, what would I even be able to sell or for in order to find a way to recoup some of my losses??🤔

    We had a Special Edition PT Cruiser years ago. It was a GREAT vehicle. It was a 5 Speed Stick shift. The #1 Particular thing about them was that the engine tilted down from under the vehicle 🤔 for maintenance purposes 🤔. But it did work.
