Mercedes put up money to push for legislation against Japanese imports. The end result was making enthusiasts wait 25 years before they could import. When this legislation was passed, German car companies were scared because of the high quality and reliability of Japanese cars versus the problem ridden european cars.

It's not pollution, it's that the cars aren't certified for sale due to their design. So maybe the tail lights are in an illegal position or there are devices on it that aren't legal or it lacks devices legally required. The import law (doesn't have to be 25 years but whatever) indicates you can't manufacture over the border and import non compliant designs.

@@nickh3064 Subaru engines don't blow up with regular maintenance, like any engine. They have made millions of boxers and have become very good at it. They make incremental improvements. As opposed to experimental technology. I know what I'd rather... Toyota safety doesn't come close to Subaru safety. Subaru's safety is always ahead of its time and standard across the range. Take the new corolla for instance, horrible visibility from inside. A pillar has a huge blind spot combined with a tiny steeply raked windscreen. Awful and unsafe. Mechanics are valuable resources indeed, but they don't care about safety as much as say, a young family does.

I have nothing against subaru i think they look good and i love the sound of a boxer engine. Im saying your taking pieces of what scotty has said and not telling the hole story. Subaru has the best awd system in the industry but they have a lot of problems with blowing head gaskets. Scotty's hole channel is geared towards long term reliability and consistency not saying subaru's cant last a long time but for an average joe blowing a head gasket is not something they want to deal with.
