What on earth are you talking about? Anyone can perform a cover version of someone else's song. They may have given Heart their seal of approval - but that's all.

@@thegroovetube3247 yea that's true but The song's copyright owner must give you a mechanical license to do that, led Zeppelin owns the copyrights to that song. heart is the only ones they gave free will to play any of their music the rest has to pay to play it.

Not so, you only need permission to record for sale, you can play any song live as long as you don't sell it

So the drummer is John Bonham’s son and he was also known for wearing that hat which is why when the curtain went up and the entire chorus was there in the back and they all had the hat on it was so emotional one of the greatest performances ever And it seemed like Robert wasn’t smiling I think he was just so emotional that it was hard to contain it

I hadn’t realized the hat until just viewing it recently! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this performance and not noticed the choir wearing the hat too!

Yes. Led Zep were told that no one from the Bonham family would be at the Kennedy Center to represent Bonzo. That was a smokescreen to cover for bringing Jason onstage and then featuring the choir with the hat tribute to John. Both were surprises for the band. As others have mentioned, Bonzo was Robert's best friend, and Robert considers himself a father figure to Jason. Robert later said he was thinking of the senselessness of Bonzo's loss abd how much he wished John could be there to see Jason play abd to hear the tribute himself. He was holding on to powerful emotions, which he let go the moment Annie crushed that note at "to be a rock abd nit to RRRROOOOLLLLL." Thst was why he couldn't smike until.the end. But he was the first one up for the standing ovation. We can'r even write moments this beautiful.

Apparently Robert Plant said that it was the first time he enjoyed a cover of the song. Heart were the bomb.

Doesn't matter how many times I see this, it still gives me goosebumps, and so emotional, when I see Robert tear up 💗 Such a beautiful tribute!!!

I can even imagine the pressure of playing that song in front of the remaining members of Led Zep AND playing the solo in front of Jimmy! and with Robert Plant trying not to cry, and Jason looking up to Heaven in memory of his dad.. so much emotion....

Plant was about to cry...He is the only one who never wanted to get back together... Best version ever!…... Gospel Singers..Wow who came up with that.. genius

They couldn't get a better female vocalist to pay tribute to Ledzep. She has a very powerful, clear and consistent voice.

NEVER FALTERED, NOT EVEN FOR ONE SECOND. THE BEST LIVE PERFOMANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I LOVED THIS. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. ANN WILSON COMPARED THIS PERFORMANCE TO AN ORGASM. SERIOUSLY. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHY SHE WOUD SAY THAT. PERFECTION.

One of the best covers I've ever heard. Led Zepplin loved their cover which to me is awesome!

They had good old Robert Plant teary eyed. Enough said. The greatest rendition to any song ever. I never get enough of it.

I also wanted to say Heart and Led Zeppelin are very good friends and I’ve seen heart multiple times live they always do a Led Zeppelin cover and every show I’ve ever seen them do

Imagine the pressure of recreating Jimmy's legendary guitar solo when the master himself is watching you. He carried it off brilliantly.

As most would but Jimmy is a different kind of animal as a famous guitarist....he knows what he can and did do but he is always intrigued by others and appreciates everything ..he said in an interview.that you can always learn something new or different from others.. he is a very humble person

The only reason I would pick up a guitar in the same room with Jimmy would be to hand it to him.

I can't tell how many times I have seen this. The chills and tears. So touching all around especially Jason Bonham. Ann Wilson was beyond this world who can have words for this?

I love the look on those guys faces as their own song was done all the measure it deserved and then some. The look of pride. But even better was when they started to jam along! Just a brief moment before they caught themselves, but OH YEAH!

Do you know what I like about you? When you enjoy a band you get to know them. You are a true fan. You are a true music enthusiast. You're a lovely human being!

Robert was trying to hold back emotion. John Bonham was his closest friend. Jason playing drums was the icing on the cake. That's who Robert was smiling at.

What a voice she still has. I remember seeing this first time, I had chills. And broke out crying seeing Jason Bonham playing his dads drums. She put her own spin on the song so respectful of LED ZEPPELIN. she could have blown the roof down with her voice Jayy! But she didn't. Led zeppelin and heart were popular at same time..

Some of their stuff from the 80's and 90's is pretty good too. They were actually more popular, had bigger hits and more of them in their later phase but I do prefer the older songs by a little.

A thousand years from now; there will be LZ and then everybody else. All this started back in the late 60's. Plant and Page were probably the most innovative writers that ever graced the planet!!

I saw in an interview (I can't remember who) where they said Robert Plant was very emotional watching John Bonham's son Jason, all grown up, playing drums like his Dad. Robert Plant and John Bonham were good friends before he tragically passed. I could listen to this performance daily ❤️

Every year, the Kennedy Center (Washington DC) gives tribute to several people. In addition to Led Zeppelin, there were several others who were honored. Generally, the President does come to them. Also in the audience were several people in the Senate or House as well as people like Jimmy KimmelI and Bonnie Raite (sic). You may have noticed that David Letterman (who was also being honored that night) was sitting beside Jimmy Page. Loved your reaction!!!
