Imagine being asked to perform one of the most legendary songs ever written, by one of the most legendary bands that ever existed, in front of the surviving members of said band, with the son of their deceased drummer on the drums. Heart absolutely killed this. I've seen this over 100 times, and I get chills every time.

If you get a chance, watch the entire tribute. Just amazing. This performance give me the chills. Jimmy Page is really enjoying this performance, Robert Plant has awakes hated people performing this song, he kept a his expressions to a minimal, but he absolutely loved it. He praised them big time in interviews. Kennedy’s Tributes are so brilliantly put together. Linda Rondstadt and Cher have great honors too. Gotta love the Obamas

I can only imagine what it must have felt like to be sitting in the audience during that performance. The Asian man, pictured in the crowd, near the end of the song, is Yo Yo Ma. He is one of the most accomplished musicians on the planet; for him to be feeling that groove the way he was, shows me how intense that experience was! Bonnie Raitt, blues guitar legend is also seen completely rocking. Great great performance!

Ann and Nancy Wilson is much older here than a they were in a a lot of their earlier videos but, they still are one of the greatest female rocker duos of all time! And Ann has fought a weight battle. Like so many others do as they age. Good work you two! PS. Look up Jimmy Page. Read about his guitar playing abilities. One of the greatest, ever!

I heard that Ann put that black coat with the big collar on right before they came on stage because she was self-conscious about her size. She didn't want that to be the focus of the crowd. That voice and that talent and she still knew some would criticize her appearance. How sad. I believe Ann was 62 when this was recorded. What a lady!

On drums is Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham (Bonzo) who died in 1980 - and Zeppelin came to a close. The 3 gentlemen in the balcony are 3 of the quartet that made Led Zeppelin: John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page. Robert Plant was very close friends with John Bonham and his death was devastating for Plant personally. This tribute goes beyond the boundaries of the legendary band that is Led Zeppelin.

  • @traci3422

Robert Plant is Jason Bonham’s godfather and had asked Jason to attend the honors with the band and Jason declined. So, this was a complete surprise to Robert to see Jason on stage. Jason did his Dad proud; this was an emotional moment for Led Zeppelin and Jason. This is the most highly rated Kennedy Center Honors performance and best cover ever performed live. Kudos to Heart and Shane Fontayne (guitarist)! Please react to Led Zeppelin with Jason Bonham live Celebration Day Kashmir performance; it is epic. You will see that the old guys can still rock and why they are the GOATs.

Another thing is that when Bonham died, Led Zeppelin stopped. They weren't going to get another drummer for one he couldn't be replaced and two I saw an interview with Robert Plant and he said it was all or nothing. And I'm sure his kid played that song thousands of times. But to do it in honor of his dad and his dad's band mates in front of them,,,Damn!!! And I don't think anyone one else could have done that as amazing as the Wilson sisters!!! And the lead guitarist nailed it. During the solo I think it was his dad they kept going to. It was just amazing!!

Imagine Anne Wilson who is now 71 yrs old and still touring and rocking, still one of , if not the best female rock vocalists ever. Nancy now 67 .. these ladies are freakin amazing. I always get teary eyed when Jason looks up to heaven at the end. Also, could you imagine the pressure the guitarist must have felt performing an iconic guitar solo, in front of the legendary guitarist who created it.? Hands down the best cover of this song. Robert Plant wiping away tears was also a great moment. I saw Heart live a few years back and they cover quite a few Led Zeppelin songs in their set.

Something to think about, Heart started their band career in the 70's, playing in dive bars covering Led Zeppelin songs in Seattle, Portland, and the Northwest...they wouldn't be if not for those songs and the chance to earn a living perfecting their own sound, so for them to be the ones selected to do the tribute song, and that song be Stairway to Heaven and with Bonham's son for the Honorees themselves...must of been massive emotion and energy for all involved.

Enjoyed your reactions! When the drummer was approached to play drums for this performance, he said on one condition. That Ann Wilson sing the song. Robert Plant absolutely hated every cover of this song, he heard, saying every singer or band got it wrong. But he said, "Miss Wilson got it right." Those two interviews were done by Rolling Stone magazine in January 2013.

Jason Bonham also played drums in his father's place at Led Zeppelin's final show in 2007, when Robert Plant, Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones reunited for an 'invitation only' charity show... It was filmed and released as a live DVD/CD "Celebration day" 🔥🔥🤘🤘 Robert Plant has since declined to perform as Led Zeppelin anymore... he said privately that not having John Bonham there is painful to experience while playing those songs. He does a few Zeppelin songs at his solo concerts... but his friend's absence affects him the most. Also, he's not comfortable singing that high at his age - he called Zeppelin's brand of heavy rock for "young men". Jason Bonham did record 2 albums as Bonham back in the late 80's... He plays drums for former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar (the Circle) and often tours as "Led Zeppelin Evening" playing Zeppelin songs live in concert as Jason Bonham Band.

At the very beginning of the video, when Jason Bonham comes onstage, he's pointing his drumsticks and smiling a "Gotcha!" smile. The reason for this - and for Robert Plant's jumping out of his chair and pointing - is that Robert Plant is Jason Bonham's godfather and had invited him to that event as his guest..but Jason lied his ass off and told Robert that he couldn't make it because he had committed to a gig in Los Angeles that night (the tribute happened in Washington D.C.). So this really was a "gotcha!" surprise for Robert Plant. One he absolutely loved.

How can they not be sitting there saying to themselves, "Hey wait, someone"s missing, there should be 4 of us here ". If I was one of those 3, being there that night and thinking about it would've broken my "Heart". No matter how long ago it was that they lost their bandmate.

Most bands honestly don't enjoy their "signature" song because you can only milk a cow so many times. Zep were known to play Stairway differently live quite a lot, sometimes to the point that it didn't sound like the same song at all... I suppose to fend off boredom of having to add it to every set list automatically. Plant was definitely in his feelings about Bonham and the power of the moment visibly set in for him. Cool cover, historical performance and probably the closest any band including Led Zeppelin themselves has ever come to nailing that tune live

Their 4th album 'Led Zeppelin IV' has sold 24 million copies in the US alone - top 5 selling record of all time, thanks to the song 'Stairway to heaven'... Zeppelin's catalog in the USA has sold staggering numbers and still selling: 'Led Zeppelin' - 8 million, 'Led Zeppelin II' - 12 million, 'Led Zeppelin III' - 6 million, 'Houses of the holy' - 11 million, 'Physical Graffiti' (double album, 16X platinum) - 8 million, 'Presence' - 3 million, 'In through the out door' - 6 million, 'Coda' (outtakes record) - 1 million. I’ve heard covers of two of the most iconic songs in rock history. This one, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Heart’s rendition gives me chills and goosebumps every time I watch it. P!nk’s version of B Rhapsody was recorded from her Fun House concert tour in Australia. I saw Queen four times in concert. The opera part of the song was always a recording in the Queen shows. P!nk’s was live. Impressed the Hell outta this old man. Check it out if ya get a chance. I really enjoy watchin you kids listening to music I grew up with when it was “new”. ✌️❤️😁🖖🍻

They look different because this performance is 35 years after Baracuda and Magic Man. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 at this performance. Also there is a longer version, this is the one from CBS which was edited for the TV show.

A couple of things you might've not picked up on... the chorus at the end are wearing bowler hats, because John Bonham used to wear one when playing drums with Zeppelin. And the guitarist playing a doubleneck guitar at the back is a tribute to Jimmy Page.

Nicely Done! It was great to see that you both really enjoyed it but, Also how you reacted to this with such class & respect! Something to take into consideration, Ann was 62 when doing this performance. Nancy I think was 60, They both are amazing ladies! The Scene : Legends performing a song by Rock God's in front of them, No Pressure... Actually I heard this story back in the 70's Led Zep were doing a concert in some American city, After the concert The band was talking about going for a beer an arena worker over heard them talking and suggested a bar not to far away from the arena, Zep decided to go there, The band playing at the bar was Heart, Back in Heart's early day's they were playing some of their own song's but mainly doing Led Zep cover song's. Back to the story, Heart was playing a Zep song & once they finished their last set, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page approached them, Commenting on how well they sounded & at that point gave Heart permission to cover any of Led Zep's song's anytime anywhere, Have been fortunate enough to see Heart quite a few different time's And they always played 1 or 2 Zep song's during their concerts. Pretty cool story & Clearly Ann & Nancy were the perfect choice to do this at The Kennedy Center for Led Zep. Thanks again, Really enjoy your take of this & glad that you both really enjoyed it too. Take care & Keep safe! Cheers from Canada!

I love watch the bands reaction to this amazing performance… to be honored at that level, for your lifetimes work, it looked like the band were watching their entire lives flash before them in that moment. What’s beautiful is that all the people who were playing are not just high level musicians, but we’re all musicians who were profoundly influenced by Led Zeppelin’s music… but it’s hard to be in a rock bad and not be either directly or indirectly influenced by Zeppelin, because they’ve really had a profound influence on the tradition.

Kennedy Center was created to honor those legendary contributors to the performing arts. Annually they pay tribute to five exceptional artists, from opera to ballet, jazz, rock, rap, actors, dancers, directors, choreographers, etc. Each artist sits with the current president, to hear and watch their peers pay tribute to them. The President pins their medal around their neck and the audience is filled with celebrity Kennedy Center members. Membership and ticket to this annual event average $10K. I always enjoyed watching this show at the holidays. It touches every art, age, talent and expression. It was started by the Kennedy family to keep art, music, and theatre a vibrant part of American life. Proceeds go to schools to support children interested in the performing arts.

Robert Plant and John Bonham were best friends. Robert looked out for his son after John died. That’s why he was so emotional - he’s said in interviews, how it made him miss his friend.
