Dr. Alan Goldhamer is the co-founder of TrueNorth Health Center, a state-of-the-art facility that provides medical and chiropractic services, psychotherapy and counseling, as well as massage and bodywork. He is also director of the Center's groundbreaking residential health education program.
Articulate, inspiring and energetic, Dr. Goldhamer is one of the most pioneering and dedicated visionaries in health today. An outspoken professional who doesn't shy away from a spirited debate, he is deeply committed to helping people stuck in self-destructive cycles reclaim their ability to change their lives.
Dr. Goldhamer has supervised the fasts of thousands of patients. Under his guidance, the Center has become one of the premier training facilities for doctors wishing to gain certification in the supervision of therapeutic fasting.
Dr. Goldhamer was the principal investigator in two landmark studies. The first: "Medically Supervised Water-Only Fasting in the Treatment of Hypertension" appeared in the June 2001 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. Its publication marked a turning point in the evolution of evidence supporting the benefits of water-only fasting. The second study: "Medically Supervised Water-Only Fasting in the Treatment of Borderline Hypertension," appeared in the October 2002 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Goldhamer is directing a team that is developing a prospective study, incorporating random assignment and long-term follow-up on the cost and clinical outcomes in the treatment of diabetes and high blood pressure with fasting and a health-promoting diet.
After completing his chiropractic education at Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Goldhamer traveled to Australia, where he became licensed as an osteopathic physician. He is the author of The Health Promoting Cookbook and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering The Hidden Force That Undermines Health and Happiness.

Dr. Goldhamer was so kind to me when I fell off the program and had a relapse of some health problems. He said, "what you did is a really hard thing and you should be so proud that you did it and forgive yourself for slipping and just go back." And I did and I am feeling awesome and weight is coming off again. Thank you so much Chef AJ for the Ultimate Weight Loss program and for putting so much time and effort into interviewing these amazing health professionals. You are the plant-based Barbara Walters only even prettier and smarter!

I live in the mountains of Costa Rica..the traditional foods are rice- beans, and beans - rice with vegetables, fruit and a bit of meat. No desserts. This is changing because or tourism and wanting to be "like Americans". The way of eating that you encourage us to eat, seems natural and easy for me. The only difference is we use too much oil when we cook.... which is easy to change. Thank you for your work, I hope Costa Ricans and others realize the value their traditional foods.

It makes me sad I've been traveling to Costa Rica for over 8 years and during that time I've watched the locals slowly take on the American eating habits and it seriously have an effect on their weight. Stick to the rice beans n veggies! This blue zone lifestyle has been fading dramatically

I adore veggies too so maybe I'd do better at 100% abstinence! the only thing I;ve managed so far is 100%-chocolate free! Long way to go yet...

Excellent interview!! Thanks so much to both of you for taking the time to share this information with us. Having followed you now on KZread I have learned so much more and am so much more aware of my food choices. I have adopted the SOS way of living and am not missing out at all - I feel better, less bloated and my taste buds have adjusted fairly quickly. I love potatoes and rice so finally finding a diet that keeps me satiated was key! I would love to visit True North or Dr. McDougall's 10 day retreat, as I was able to attend PlantStock 2 years ago and had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Lisle = who is amazing and has such a great sense of humour as well! I enjoy combining my annual vacation time with healthy living seminars, after all we don't enjoy our vacations as much if our health is lacking.. BIG HUGS to you! :)

Hi Chef AJ, thank you for your amazing interviews. Really love it. I have one question. Everytime I eat heavy meals with potatoes or rice SOS free I notice pimples in my face immediately after eating. Especially when I eat such cooked meals. Do you know what the cause is? I do/did have/had Crohn's disease but without any symptoms of bleeding, pain or diarrhea and I'm medication free since 2015. thank you and wish you the best. Regards from Germany

I could easily eat without salt, I live in the caribbean and Im a cyclist, I sweat a lot, I tryed a month without salt but I have a natural low blood pressure, so I started eating salt again because I wasnt sure about it, do you think there might be a problem if I just dont use salt in my diet?

teriana29 it's a processed food like white flour & sugar, no fibre or nutrients Unprocessed seeds come with a variety of minerals zinc, calcium, iron etc. and omega fats and fibre. Oil is bad for artery health. Check out doctor Esselstyn lectures on KZread for more information on his research into arterial health.
